Mangalore, Sep 3: 'Platform Number 3’ - a unique comedy play presented by Kalaakul, Konkani’s only theater repertory mesmerized a packed audience at Kalaangann here on Sunday September 1.

The play was showcased as part of the 141st monthly theater presented by Mandd Sobahnn. The play was written by Arun Raj Rodrigues and directed by Christopher D’Souza, Neenasam.

The play was about the activities at a railway platform. An ambitious young boy who completed his MBA with a gold medal is on his way to Chennai for an interview at a multinational company.

At  the platform he meets fellow passengers, a Gujarati couple, a  differently-abled person,  a sexual minority (gay) , a prostitute along with a Malayali vendor of tea stall, a policeman and a girl towards whom the boy is attracted.

The train gets delayed by 3 hours. To kill time all the passengers stage a play by imitating various political characters. At the end, when the train finally arrives at the platform, an unexpected twist ends the play.  According to the audience, the play was ‘a total paisa vasool’. 

This is the first play to be staged by the new batch (2013-14) of Kalaakul.

Rohan Lobo, was the music director and the play was ably enacted by Melwyn Pais, Sandeep Tellis, Maria Joyce D'Souza, Arun Tauro, Preeetham Rodrigues, Neeshma D'Souza, Venissa D'Cunha, Rivin Crasta, Malcon Rego and Hanley Coelho.

    What an interesting storyline! I wish i was in the audience. It's high time Konkani masses get a glimpse of such modern plays rather than the stale and mundane.

    Platform no. 3 touches the audience beautifully. Present political scenario is portrayed in a strong and an unique way by Arun raj. This drama contains irony of indian political,police and social systems. Each character represents thousand unsaid emotions of different classes and communities of India. We can see the maturity and ability of the director when the drama takes a political touch. Good luck team Kalakul. Have a prosperous career ahead.

    This is the best news Konkani community can have. Congratulations to Kalaakul 12-13 batch for bringing out such a Paisa wasool product. Congrats to all people behind this effort.
