Oscar's contribution to Udupi almost nil, laments Raghupati Bhat

Daijiworld News Network - Udupi

Udupi, Sep 5: "Oscar Fernandes has enjoyed higher positions and wielded more power than the late Dr V S Acharya. Yet his contribution to our town is much less than that of Dr Acharya," said former MLA Raghupati Bhat.

Speaking at a press conference held at the local BJP office on Wednesday September 4, Bhat said that Oscar's contribution is too small and his tenures as MP or minister have hardly helped the town. During the press conference he urged Oscar Fernandes who is now the central minister for transport, road and highways, to put in efforts to construct a flyover on NH 66 at Brahmavar  and Karavali Junction near here.

Having flyovers both at Brahmavar and Karavali Junction very much necessary in order to ease traffic. The highway authorities have proposed a cattle pass at Brahmavar and an underpass at Karavali Junction. But both will be of no use. Actually they will create more problems instead of easing woes. A cattle pass in Brahmavar will be detrimental to the development of Brahmavar as it will divide the growing town in two. Hence Oscar Fernandes should intervene and convince the authorities to shelve the plan for cattle pass and underpass at Brahmavar and Karavali Junction respectively. Instead flyovers must be constructed in both these places, he demanded.

Initially the highway authority had proposed to construct flyovers at Udupi, Brahmavar, Padubidri and Kundapur. However later on such plans were given up and the idea of underpass and cattle pass was mooted. But the authorities are not understanding the local problems. They have not studied the cons of shelving flyover plans, he added.

Oscar Fernandes could have done tremendous work in his home constituency since he has enjoyed considerable power for long. But his contribution towards the development of his native place is almost nil. At least now he should do something that is good and necessary for his homeland, Bhat opined.

Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde and Oscar have been contacted repeatedly in this regard. However, they haven't responded positively. If the situation remains the same for next few days, a protest will be staged by blocking the national highway on September 15, he warned.

BJP Yuva Morcha president Vilas Nayak said that a bike rally will be held on September 7 to urging authorities to speed-up the ongoing NH 66 project.

Balakrishna Shetty, Ratnakar Shetty, Mohan Shetty etc were also present at the press meet.

He enjoyed power for a long time but live poor in udupi, let Mr.JP takeover this challenge by BJP and do some good work to udupi area in terms of developing means of transport whether it is road or backwaters of surround.

Being our nation is in deep crisis today, the Minister of Surface Transport Sector has an ample opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the city, state, country and the globe as well, which will help even the generations to come.
After investing numerous billions of rupees on roads and infrastructure, why we still use the primitive concept in vehicles (which was used during the introduction of vehicles engine without option/alternative as there were no clear roads) and face severe problems?
If we implement a simple concept change, the opportunity is to reduce consumption of a huge volume of fuel, save billions of dollars, eliminate pollutions, reduced costs, the increase capacities of vehicles and to have satisfactory public transport facilities for rapidly increasing volume of commuters and goods.
The option is to relieve our nation from junk economic status, solve several critical problems, become India a developed nation and leading global economy.
Think different, change concept, solve problems, have solutions and enjoy benefits is the best deal, instead of wasting our precious time in blame game and arguments.

Look at the sad state of the National Highway 17 (Now 66) from Mangalore to Karwar. Surely, Mr. Oscar could do much being central minister for transport, road and highways instead of only sitting in the dais at various functions. Actions speak much louder than words. Being too close to ruling party and the family, we expect much from Mr. Oscar.
Also, all the new railways are going to Kerala and we have only train from Mumbai to Mangalore and most of the seats are occupied by Keralites. Can u do something for us Mr. Minister.

Had you seen any developments in Kaup region? What was the contribution in Karkala region by Gopal Bhandari and Veerappa Moily? What was the contribution of Ramanath Rai in Bantwal area when he was MLA before 5/10 years? All contribution goes to Palemar in Mangalore North for without any incidents in Katipalla and Suratkal region ever since he became MLA there. Before 5/10 years Suratkal area was so tensed that every month for few days there was a curfew like situation. We have to thank Late VS Acharya and ex-MP Jayaram Shetty for widening the Udupi City Main road for convincing road side shop owners to give up their land.

Entire Congress and BJP folk, its MLAs Minsiters,MPs are a waste and their contribution to the constituencies in Dk,Udupi is negligible since years.Only MP who contributed to erstwhile DK dist is Late Ulla Srinivas Mallya.Today whatever we see around in the form developments in coastal belt is because of this great visionery .None have that much capacity to deliver like him.We people are talking of filling the road ponds by putting patch ups and call it as development. Please see Hassan a backwward dist HQ few years back and what is it now and by whom so developed.Fastest developing class II city Mangalore has no full pledged bustand,no parking facility for vehicles in densely populated area Hampankatta, dist hospital now only getting developed,Lady Goshen hospital was made a item for making illegal monetary gain in collaboration with Raghava Reddy of Andhra.See the BC Road bus stand area and flyover still flying since several years, shiradi ghat was just'Raadi' in 2009-1011 and being repaired from time to time as a show without permanent solution. For us in Udupi,Mangalore, provison for good eatary places are only signs of 'development'......
