Mangalore, Sep 7: Stepping up their demands to improve the condition of the hostel for backward communities and minorities (BCM), hundreds of ABVP activists and college students on Friday September 6 late evening gheraoed MLA J R Lobo's residence and were soon detained by the police.

However, J R Lobo was not at home at the time. The protestors decided to wait by the gate of his residence and declared that they would not leave until they meet the MLA. The police on getting information rushed to the spot to disperse the crowd, but when they refused to listen, they were detained and taken to Kadri police station.

The police station witnessed chaotic scenes after Congress workers arrived and demanded that police file FIR against all the persons involved in the protest. Arguments also arose between the Congress workers and ABVP activists, and police took the latter inside the police station to calm down the situation. However, chaos continued with Congress workers arguing with the police.

The Congress workers said that if the students or ABVP had genuine concerns, they should have given a formal appeal or memorandum at the MLA's office. "It is not right to go to an MLA's house," they said.

Police sources said that J R Lobo instructed them to release the students among the protestors, and restrain those who were not students but were present for their vested interests. Many of the students belonged to PU and degree levels.

The police later began questioning the protestors.

Meanwhile, J R Lobo himself came to the spot. Visibly angered by the incident, he said that the protestors had any problem they should have approached him at his office in the right manner. "This is an issue related to education. Do not politicize it," he told the protestors, and promised that a meeting will be held on Saturday September 7 to discuss the issue.

When Lobo asked them to specify which BCM hostel they were complaiing about, the protestors named the one at Suratkal. Lobo replied that they should be approaching the MLA of Mangalore North as Suratkal area does not fall under his limits.

The Congress workers, hinting at vested interest behind the incident, told mediapersons, "For 20 years Yogish Bhat (of BJP) was the MLA here, and Krishna Palemar (also of BJP) too was there. Now MP Nalin Kumar Kateel is there, so why did the protestors come only to J R Lobo's residence?"

BJP leaders Monappa Bhandary, Shrikar Prabhu and others also arrived at the spot. Congress leaders and members like Vijaykumar Shetty, Denis D'Silva and Stany Alvares and many youth leaders were present. Finally, members of the both the parties dispersed. The students among the protestors would be released, police sources said.

A case has been registered in Kadri police station.

    Dear all ,
I find loads of comment here, safforn , gundas & manymore .Found a statement saying why? Students have to get on roads ..! This mentality of people need to be changed . we people are so crowd & helpless, that we dont react but we do our job “critics”. Student power is most effective once, but the sad part is , these powers are seized with does and don’ts ,semester and assignments . Let them come on the dais. Put forward there views , & please students dont get parties into it. students your are under process of education . you can think better then our politicians . so be on your own . then fight against . there are thousands of matter, raise your voice . don’t think matter is big or small. Action comes first. All the great leaders were behind bars once. But don’t hurt any one , destroy public properties be a responsible citizen.

It is evident that during his short tebure as an M.L.A. J.R.Lobo has done his best for the betterment of people from all walks of life including students. He has opened an office essentially to help people in general. Therefore it is very wrong on the part of the protestors to attack a PEOPLES' MAN by proceeding to his house and make an attempt to gerao the place It is time that persons who are responsible for this kind behavier be sternly dealt with and politicians allowed to continue with their jobs.

Hope a situation like this does not arise again.

Maybe they were trying to show that see this is what our culture is acting like animals, disturbing peace and harmony of society, causing trouble to others. we don't want your culture of respect, liberty, freedom and humanity. By looking at their faces one can make out how civilized they are and how many of them are real students living in that hostel. Even animals must have said we are better than these type of animals in human shape. I feel sorry and sad for their parents whose efforts, money, ambitions and dream to make their children an educated and civilized human being is going totally waste by joining these type of organizations. And one more thing is really hard to accept is since when ABVP and its father organizations started caring about SC/ST and minorities?

This is disturbing and irresponsible act by ABVP which is a proxy of BJP/RSS. I am sure, DK BJP leaders ( who printed two lakh pamphlets to tarnish Lobo) have orchestrated this dirty political game to malign Mangalore South MLA. Lobama had been with people and was doing his best to address problems faced by citizens and Mangalore city. His sincere work wil always be a thorn to BJP leaders in DK. BJP has realised this and now they are trying hard to malign Lobo. This will continue as long as good work continues.

Put down Lobama at any cost - is the main agenda for DK BJP leaders. Abvp is student wing of RSS/BJP/VHP consisting of misguided, criminal elements. How many members of ABVP study well n become meritorious students and help/serve in nation building? Members of ABVP continue to be members even if their kids are in college!!

by DVS n infamous Raghupathi Bhat to portray Indian culture to foreigners in the name of tourism. To cover up "20 years of no work" of yogish bhat/ palemar, BJP is playing rotten politics.

Palemar, Nagaraj Shetty n others in BJP government tried to hijack good work of Mr.Lobo at Pilikula. BJP leaders troubled him a lot at pilikula bcz they couldnt see honest work of Lobo. Lobo was left alone to collect funds from non-governmental sources to run entire Pilikula and BJP ministers watched the fun. Janardhna Reddy who was tourism minister did tourism in Bellary!! This is not the proper way to carry out protsts by ABVP. Why they should go tohis residence that too without giving prior intimation to MLA. What J.R.Lobo told is correct. In case they wanted to subnit their grievances they should have gone to his office and expressed. Why they should go to his house unnecessarily that too in the evening hours to protest about the issue. However he has not taken any vengeance against them but told the police to release the protestors who were arrested. Good gesture. Why politicise these issues unnecessarily. ABVPs hollowness thoroughly exposed. People behind this plan must be seriously dealt with. Lobo's kindness n humbleness has been taken for a ride by these extremist fringe groups. Being meek n humble many times is taken as weakness by misguided anti-social elements.

ABVP are purposely targeting lobo for problems in gujarath ( Vanzara's admission of Modi n Amit Shah role in massacre of defenseless civilians of minority community) and Rapist/murderer guru Mr.asaram !! ABVP is good at attacking minorities bcz they cannot digest good work done by able people. ABVP is now in love with dalits, Modi is now in love with Muslims, - all hypocrisy is for votes n hungry for power.

Hostel inmates havnt protested so far but ABVP goons for sake of cheap publicity are protesting in front of residence of MLA of another constituency. Thats funny but well orchestrated cunning plan from BJP/RSS masters to malign Loboma. These rogues havnt submitted written complaint to Mangalore north MLA, instead they come n sit in from of Lobamas house !! This is serious breach of law.

Well said Mr.Lawrence, USA. Earlier BJP government booked cases on students from christian community just bcz safeguarding their workship places from attacks carried out by BD goons under Kalladka radar. Recently one arrest made church attack case. Innocent christian youths were made to suffer like hell bcz BJP gevernment deliberately misused law to target innocent youth. Christian leaders begged for their release, but government of the day was arrogant, was implementing hidden agenda. Mr.Lobo did showed what true christian value is, by allowing misguided students to go free without a case being booked on them. ABVP is indirectly helping Lobo and make him to listen to hostel problems. Lobama as a personality n human-being will endear citizens of Mangalore.

ABVP have lost faith in their own leaders like Nalin, Yogish, Palemar. They want Lobama, BJP doesnt have a leader from Christian n muslim community.

    1) I quote from daijiworld news: Police sources said that J R Lobo instructed them to release the students among the protestors, and restrain those who were not students but were present for their vested interests. Unquote.
    2) The Congress workers, hinting at vested interest behind the incident, told mediapersons, "For 20 years Yogish Bhat (of BJP) was the MLA here, and Krishna Palemar (also of BJP) too was there. Now MP Nalin Kumar Kateel is there, so why did the protestors come only to J R Lobo's residence?"
It was a good initiative by the M.L.A., Mr. J.R. Lobo to be soft on the student’s release as per police. If in bjp period and the Christians were protesting in front of Mr. Nalin Kumar’s house, they would have filed the cases against Christians. The approach of congress is very clear. Not to disqualify the students for their future. As Mr. J.R. Lobo clearly said I quote: the protestors had any problem they should have approached him at his office in the right manner. "This is an issue related to education. Do not politicize it," Unquote.

I HOPE IF THE STUDENT PROTESTERS ARE RATIONALE MIND THEY RECEIVED THE MESSAGE FROM Mr. J.R. Lobo and that is enough.

To the second one, since 20 years bjp’s M.L.A., Mr. Yogish Bhat and palemar for few years were chosen and this ABVP never complained to them concerning to this subject.

THIS CLEARELY SHOWS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED SUBJECT.

MR. J.R. LOBO’S PHOTO FROM TOP TO BOTTOM 4TH 5TH AND 6TH PHOTO’S ARE REALLY SHOWS HE IS LISTENING TO THE COMPLAINTS WELL.

AFTER ALL IN DEMOCRACY ALL ARE TO BE TAKEN IN TO CONFIDENCE.
IN BJP ONLY MINORITIES ARE NOT TREATED AS SUCH.
VERY SHAME ON BJP AND ABVP.

ABVPs hollowness thoroughly exposed. People behind this plan must be seriously dealt with. Lobos kindness n humbleness has been taken for a ride by these extremist fringe groups.

It was a good initiative by the M.A.A., Mr. J.R. Lobo to be soft on the student’s release. If in bjp period and the Christians were protesting in front of Mr. Nalin Kumar’s house, they would have been filed the cases against Christians. The approach of congress is very clear. Not to disqualify them for their future. As Mr.

Yogish Bhat was chosen and this ABVP never complained to him concerning to this subject.

    POLITICALLY MOTIVATED SUBJECT.

MR. J.R. LOBO’S PHOTO FROM TOP TO BOTTOM 4TH 5TH AND 6TH PHOTO’S REALLY LISTENING TO THE COMPLAINTS WELL.

AFTER ALL IN DEMOCRACY ALL ARE TO BE TAKEN IN TO CONFIDENCE.
IN BJP CHRISTIANS ARE NOT TREATED AS SUCH.

When they were as Government in Karnataka, BJP had very little knowledge of governing. They could not even govern their own BJP Party in the State. They created and funded these small communal groups to create various situations to trouble citizens of Karnataka in various ways, to divert the minds of citizens from the real tragedy of their governance.
If they still continue to do that even after they lost face completely in last election, people will not think even once to vote them for the central post.
They have failed at State level miserably, how on earth they can manage at the center without proper knowledge of governance?
Just shouting at the top of the voice and lambasting is considered as the ticket to the center, then they are the prime party. Otherwise they should not be considered even as an opposition in the Parliament same like in Karnataka.!!

See for yourself how they organised this Gherao at Lobo's residence. They do not even know that he is not the concerned MLA to look into their demands. That is how much knowledge of things BJP and their splinter groups have.

Yes. What you said also very true.
They are a frustrated lot right now.
It is good to see Congress MLAs\ministers\MPs and others helping out many of those people instead of just shooing them off.
And they, as you said, turning to Congress party people for solving their problems. Realisation, even late also good sign.

That is the reason Congress is a matured Party with good knowledge of politics and governance.

    Dear Mr.Lobo,

Please convince the government to introduce the anti-segregation policy and dismantle the SC/ST hostels and Harijan colonies. They need to be integrated with mainstream without considering their caste or tribe. They need to be uplifted not only economically but also socially.

Suggest the government to issue voucher system which can be used as payment for any hostels they choose to live in.

In Harijan colonies, they are trapped in a filthy condition. Law forbids buying their land and property by others. They will be trapped for generations to come unless the government help them to spread their dwelling places amongst the mainstream population.

Government's "Equal but separate" policy should be changed.

Mr.Lobo, please visit USA and study how the US government implemented such policies for black Americans. The new generation in America hardly have any racial feelings.

It is an intellectual decision by Mr. Lobo requesting police to release the students. One can imagine how concerned he is about the future of SC/ST students. That is the leadership.

However, police should find out who played the game behind the scene and prosecute them to the fullest extent.

If the students wants to join the politics, they should not belong to the school or hostel at tax payers expense.

Dear ABVP students follow the example of the PUC student from Bhramavar Sharath Naik. All of you will land somewhere or else throughout your lives you will be protesting only and preparing a place in jails. Say no to your leaders. Be on your own.

Off course this is MLA responsibility, that he must listen all his constituency people problems and to resolve or bring to the attention of concerned personnel. However, if you can read carefully the last three paragraphs which he is clearly said that the protesting students were brought the issue of hostel from Surathkal which is under Mangalore north MLA, also he informed that the past MLA’s since 20 years and the BJP MP did nothing for the student then this ABVP students were not protested.
I think people are taking advantage of his kindness guys when good people are doing good jobs please allow them.

ABVP is misleading the students and the general public, as their party (BJP) is out of power now. They also know that BJP will never come to power in Karnataka. When BJP was in power, ABVP members had not protested for anything and they supported the corrupt BJP Govt blindly. BJP had totaly failed to govern our state and the people were fed up of them and therefore they lost very badly. Mr. JR Lobo is doing a very good job and is being appreciated by the people. He is a man of deeds. All the best Mr. JR Lobo. Jai Ho.

These students have troubled after late evening hours not only to MLA but to all residents around that area. Is this is the great culture ABVP is teaching to students? There was no permission for this protest either by Police Dept or by district administration. So another case of taking power into hand and disturbing public. Police should take strict action against these students who are supposed to be inside their hostel after 7 pm. These students are been provided with food and shelter from out tax money. Pls throw them out of hostel. Strict action need to be taken against warden for allowing them to participate in anti-social activities. Police pls book cases against these ABVP drama company.

Where were these ABVP duplicate members when BJP MLA was ruling? It is totally unculture to spoil the family peace and illegal to protest front of the MLA's house. MLA can take the issue to the authorities if the students gave the request. I think this how BJP is trying to spoil the peace in Mangalore and in INDIA too.

It was a great humanitarian gesture on the part of the MLA to instruct the police to release the students as they should not be victims of the vested political interests. A police record would be an indelible stain hampering their future.

This ABVP having no other work? every day they are engaged with protests and strikes for different reasons. Please ban this group, as it is dangerous than the terrorist group. This organisation is spoiling the students life. Student's parents have to take care about their children and make them to concentrate on the studies instead of joining such useless group.
