Yasin Bhatkal had hideout in Mangalore, recruited local youth to IM

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Sep 11: It has lately come to light that Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal along with his associates had taken refuge at a secret place in Mangalore, sources revealed.

Sources said that Yasin wandered in places like Haleangady, Ullal, Chembugudde and Mukkachery. Riyaz Bhat, Iqbal Bhatkal and Naushad too accompanied Yasin to Mangalore. The main intention was a secret 'enrolment drive' to induct youths from Mangalore into Indian Mujahideen, it is learnt.

In Udupi too, Yasin stayed in a lodge where one of his associates used to regularly visit him. Yasin collected Ammonium Nitrate used in the blast from Mangalore, confirmed NIA investigations.

A few days back, NIA officials brought Yasin and his associate Asadulla Akhtar alias Haddi by a special flight to Mangalore.

During investigation, Haddi is understood to have shown their hideouts in Mangalore and Hyderabad. In these places, Haddi, Yasin, Wakas and Tahsin lived for a few days.

Money collected in Mangalore

A private news channel had recently reported that the money for bomb blast was sent through Western Union Money Transfer from Pakistan. The amount was collected in Mangalore.

Haddi during investigation also showed the said Western Union Money Transfer office located in one of the main roads in the city.

The preparation for Hyderabad bomb blast was made in the Mangalore hideout, sources said. A IED circuit, clothes of Wakas and Tahsin, blast equipment, and a trolley bag were found at the spot by the officials.

There is a possibility that the bombs were prepared in Mangalore and then taken to Hyderabad, said officials.

Explosives found in a house at Ullal

Four years back, in Mukkachery at Ullal, two explosives were found during a raid at a house. In connection to this, two persons from Ullal and four from Mangalore, altogether 7 persons were arrested. Police also received information about terrorist activities in the city during that time.

300 e-mails in laptop

NIA officials are understood to have opened 300 e-mails in Yasin’s laptop. Yasin preferred e-mails to mobile phone connectivity and it is also learnt that Yasin had been to a few cyber centres in the Mangalore before the Hyderabad blast.

As the e-mails were composed in code languages, experts are trying to decipher them. There is a possibility that information regarding Pune German bakery blast, Hyderabad and Mumabi blasts are also present in these e-mails, said officials. Further details will be obtained only after the experts decipher the code language.

Participation in rally

In coastal part of Karnataka and Kerala, Yasin was reportedly in close contact with two associations of a particular community, through which he used to appoint youth to India Mujahideen.

One of these associations had organized a rally in Mangalore in which Yasin had participated, it is learnt. Police are keeping an eye on the leaders of these associations, it is learnt.

Terror network in Kerala

Yasin Bhatkal and Riyaz Bhatkal were successful in extending their terror network to Kerala by recruiting a few Kerala youth for Indian Mujahideen, sources said.

Before Indian Mujahideen came into existence, SIMI was operating in Kerala until it was banned. Many from SIMI then joined Indian Mujahideen. They were not only seen roaming in several parts of Kerala but had also contacted several Kerala youth in Gulf countries to join Mujahideen, investigation has revealed.

In Mallapuram, Yasin had an associate by name Suhaib Pottanikal, who was active in SIMI and later joined Indian Mujahideen. When he received the information that police are on to him, he fled to Dubai. There is also a suspicion that he was also involved in recruiting youth to Indian Mujahideen.

Suhaib’s associate Sainuddin was arrested by police in connection to Ahmedabad and Bangalore blasts. During interrogation, he is said to have admitted that Suhaib had helped him to open an electronic shop at Kondotti and also asked him to meet Yasin Bhatkal.

Recruitment in Gulf

Many of the youth from Kerala working in Gulf countries were recruited to Indian Mujahideen over there. Police issued a lookout notice against SIMI secretary Sarfaraz Nawaz, K P Sabir alias Ayub from Kannur, P P Yusuf from Srikanthpura, Mohammed Azhar, Shafiq from Kannur, P A Naizal from Mambar and several others. The above mentioned people are operating terror activities from Gulf, sources said.

Kerala minister of state for home admitted that Yasin Bhatkal had extended his terrorist network in Kerala. However, he did not reveal the names of associations who are in touch with Yasin but expressed concern over increase in terror activities in the state and said that police have kept an eye on a few people.

    M/s Jossey, Leslie etc.

DO NOT make senseless and baseless statements based on your assumptions.

India is not the ONLY country that is facing a problem, but there are 110 countries in this world that are all facing the very same problem by this same group and their affiliates. Let us start from what we know for sure, the name of the group is Indian “Mujahideen”. Who is a Mujahid? What do they want and why are they fighting? What is their rationale and reasoning behind these worldwide attacks? Who has commanded them to fight, and what are their ultimate goals that they plan to achieve?

In the past I have explained in my several letter to the editors but till date none got published. So for all of you concerned if you really want to know you have to spend some time reading and understanding why the whole world is facing this problem and more importantly you will have answers to all your questions.

As we here noticed that some of the readers commenting on the basis of religion, if these readers at least thought of peace and harmony they wouldn't have commented on.
There is no doubt that if a Terrorist is accountable for what he have done against the humanity/religion/ nation, he must be get a life-term, or hang to death sentence. Attacking innocent people is not courageous, it is silly and will be punished on the day of judgement.

    @ Ganesh...
Anyone who looks at the data unbiased will have to accept that Indian Muslims have been the most peaceful and the least attaracted towards global terrorism. Even Wikileaks have shown that US had acknowledged that despite such a alarge population, Indian Muslims despite being religious are not involved in terrorism

On the other hand, the myth making about muslim appeasement, and demonising of muslims as terrorists is an ongoing process of the political right and pseudo-nationalists. No one realises that the number of deaths per-capita on terrorims in India is the lowest in the world. Or that we have ten times as many terror related incidents by Maoists than any other attacks.

Not to mention that the revenge/reprisal attacks by muslim based groups spikes only after the Mumbai riots/Babri masjid incident and the Gujarat riots.

As an Indian Muslim, I am proud of my nation regardless of the issues that we as a nation are facing.

A nation cannot cater all the needs of its citizens, so an individual should understand the diversity that we enjoy in India and the privileges constitution has provided.
Few rats cannot malign a religion or a nation. Therefore, we all should stand up against these rats and protect our nation from being a nation of religious lunatics like Pakistan.

Even, a neutral country like Sweden has religious lunatics.
Let us believe in diversity, co-existence, communal harmony and brotherhood. No religion advocates hate or bloodshed. We all are the creation of one God and when God didn’t differentiate us due to the religion. We all have blood which is red in colour irrespective of religion, caste, creed and nationality.

Religion should be a way of life rather than to hate each other, let humanity be our priority.

It is high time that community leaders get together, give proper directions to the youth against involving in terrorist activities irrespective of the reasons. No religion tells you that you can kill others, more so, killing innocent people in bomb blasts. such elements out-cast and unwanted by the society.
There is a lure of money involved, people should wake up when not-so educated people without setting up a business or other wind fall getting rich overnight. It is ill gotten money.
Blaming Pakistan alone won't help, we must keep our house in order. However, it is not out of place to enlighten the common man that despite our shortcomings India is much much better place than Pakistan to live, irrespective of your religion.

Investigators should find out all the people enrolled by this terrorist in Mangalore and surrounding areas and book them for anti national activities. Such people have no place to live in India.

The only way to eliminate these thugs is to eliminate Pakistan, a source of funding and logistics support. How come these Indian muslims go against their motherland?? If they feel injustice is done to them, then we have institutions to address them. Those who seek enemy help to address their problems are not less than enemies of our country and should be tried and punished as traitors and enemies of this land and those who sympathise and support these thugs need to be eliminated and put to rest for ever..Motherland is above all/

Good one Shanwaz, people should know what happened in Pakistan since 65 years of Independence..Silence of the moderate voice during early years of fundamentalist atrocities taking toll of all..Nobody left,no prayers hall left, no holy days left..Jinnah's people(shia) became orphans in their own country,Nobel prize winner d as NM(Ahmadi)..These misguided youths (irrespective of religion) defaming, damaging their own faith nationally,internationally..Elders.moderates should take note of these developments before situation spiraling out of control..

Totally agree with Brother Shahnawaz. This ain't right at all. Whoever indulging in this kind of Gaddhari activities, should be punished severely.
Mr. Ramesh, it's funny that being a RSS supporter, you're pointing fingers at Pakistan. Because RSS is doing the same here as religious fundmentalists did it in pakistan and Afghanisthan. Just a difference is religion. May we live in Peace and respects with each and every indian citizen that's all i can pray..

Shahnawaz: Even all say 'Terrorist have no Religion', I strongly say that 'Religion is the main cause for Terrorism', mainly in India.

Since long time it has been believed that coastal Karnataka has been the laboratory of terrorism. It is quite unfortunate that educated youths are getting trapped in these religious terrorist activities, which goes against mother nation. So many innocent lives have been lost because of these illegal activities.
Our country is unique in all the ways. All are given equal opportunities and rights. Unlike other countries, where the minorities have to blindly follow the rules and regulations of the majority, India is composed of several religions, castes, languages which forms the integrity of the nation.Love for the nation should overcome religious activities. Yasin has spoiled the name of the place where he belongs. There may be more talented, educated youths from his place, who will face difficulty in getting admissions, jobs, home for rents etc.My sincere appeal to all youths to shy away from anti-national activities and work towards prosperity of our mother land

Coastal Karnataka(Specially mangalore and udupi) is a place of thugs and criminals. We are the suppliers of goons and mafia people to the country.
We are next to UP and Bihar.
