Udupi, Sep 12: Heddari Ulisi committee has released a letter regarding the September 19 Brahmavar bandh call in protest against the traffic problems arising out of the widening work on NH 66. The bandh will urge the concerned to either construct a flyover or a surface level road in Brahmavar.

The committee has requested to pause activities in Varamballi, Handadi, Chantaru and Haradi gram panchayat areas on that day.

There will be a public meeting at 10 am and the highway will be blocked from 11 am to 12 am.  There will also be a protest rally after that to the office of Brahmavar special tahsildar.

The letter includes detailed attempt of the Heddari Ulisi committee highlighting the traffic chaos created by the widening of the road. The committee strongly opposed the present design employed in the highway widening process and termed it as 'dangerous'.

Ten thousand copies of the letter are printed and the letter will be posted to every house and associations in the four panchayat areas, said committee convenor B Govindaraj Hegde in a press conference called in Brahmavara Ashraya hotel.

Unstable situation of traffic

The underpass in Brahmavar has made us aware of the chaos in traffic.  It is a question of our future.  If the work continues, we will have to face the problem permanently.  So the bandh is held with the support of local organizations and students, said convenor B Govindaraj Hegde.

Leaders of associations, H Sudarshan Hegde, Raju Poojary, Thimmappa Hegde, Vittal Poojary, Madamakki Shashidhar Shetty, Derick D’ Souza, M Chandrashekar Hegde, Ratnakar Shetty, Manjunath Poojary and others were present.

Mr. Oscar Fernandes has been elected MP from Udupi three times, and Mr. Hegde of Congress party is current MP, was elected three times MLA from Brahmavar. Mr. Fernandes with central cabinet position and influential Mr. Hegde can put this road in proper order in just few weeks... Please approach them directly and get the job done. Let PROGRESS have upper hand than POLITICS.

While blocking the road, please ensure that at least a part of the road is open to emergency cases like ambulance, pregnanat ladies, old and sick people etc. Also please arrange for drinking water to the stranded passengers as most of them would be unaware of the blockage. Let not the protest unduly inconvenience the travellers.

Our present representatives from our districts either from BJP or congress is not use at all. They are just fit to visit inauguration functions. We definately need a representative like Ullal Srinivas Mallya who is solely responsible for Mangalore Airport, Ullal bridge, NITK, Mangalore Port Etc.

George Belman, Belman/Mangalore: Oscar is having more power than Hegde. Hegde spent just few months as an MP and he will do what he can do irrespective of constituency etc. but Oscar has been MP from 3 decades (30 years) and he was a minister in cabinet many time (last couple of years) and now he himself is a minister for transport and highway. What he is doing from last 30 years ??? this highway was sleeping last 3 years. You can request with Udupi people to missing complaint against Oscar also.

In our both undivided district Udupi and DK, the work gets start soon, but it never gets end. Also it's sad to see whoever comes in either BJP or congress our undivided district is left behind in terms of development. The city like Mangalore lacks basic infrastructure facilities as there is no proper drainage facility, no proper traffic signal, no proper foothpaths, no proper bus stands etc. All the elected representives inrrespective of political parties promise so many big things before election and after that they disappear for 5 years. Also the people of our districts are least bothered about that as they just spend their time in blaming each other in support of their favorite political parties. I keep visiting places like Shimoga, Tumkur, Hassan etc and i see those smaller cities are over taking mangalore in terms of development.

"Heddari Ulisi Commity is highlighting the Traffic Chaos created by the widening of the road" - NH 66.
Please take the issue with the concerned Authorities/Elected Representatives like MP/MLA's.
I feel blocking the road & creating further disturbance for commuters is not a solution to the existing problem.

Where is our MP Jayaprakash Hegde in all this? After initial enthusiasm accepting sanmanas from NRIs he has disappeared from the scene. He seems more interested in helping Jet Airways, Mangalore airport and rich NRI businessmen than people who voted for him. Remember Mr.Hegde was MLA of Brahmavara and still travels on this same road.

Oscaranna used to live in Brahmavara sugar factor guest house so he is from this area as well.

It is utter tragedy that Oscar who has all the powers to make a difference is not doing anything to speed up things at his own door step.

People of Udupi should file a missing person case for their missing MP Mr.Hegde. Where are all Hegde's enthusiastic supporters now?

As far as corrupt officials are working in the BBMP,City Corporations & Panchayat offices & when they engage most third grade, currupt, contractors, we cannot expect any good roads, high ways, bridges & pothole free Ghat roads and tunnels. politicians,Babus,Corporators are going to foreign countries for pleasure trips not to study their any infrastructure projects. The main intention of all our politicians of all the parties is to loot the country & to fill their pockets.

All should support this movement and it is the responsibility of the Minister for transport and highway Mr. Oscar Fernandes. Better to gherao in front of Oscar's house and public should not allow him to enter Udupi untill this highway (N.H. 66) work completed. Most of the works are pending last 3 years and because of this so many peoples lost their lives due to accidents in this highway because of road diversions, incomplete roads etc. etc.

It is sad to see state of the construction work that is going on especially during rainy season. When it is winter or summer it is full of dust. We have really shown maximum patience.I wonder how these people got the contract? In Brahmavar just for a small passage for the people to cross they have dumped the heap of soil still undone. It is the age old plan to contruct a uderpass in that fashion. Our honourable ministers visit so many developed countries but don't implement any development project. The contractor must remove the soil and start either a flyover or an undepass. Please support this irrespective of the party that is ruling or in the opposion. Hope Mr.Hegde &Co will succeed.
