Kasargod: 14-year-old boy meets watery grave while swimming

Kasargod, Sep 12: In a tragic incident, a teenager lost his life while swimming in a pond at KK Pura, Talangere here on Wednesday September 11.

The deceased has been identified as Zaheer Abbas (14), son of Mohammed Kunhi and Saudha, residents of M H House, KK Pura.

Zaheer was studying in the 9th standard at Talangere Government Muslim Vocational Higher Secondary School.

On Wednesday evening, he told his family members that he was going for a swim and left the house. However, he did not return even till 7 pm. His family members who grew worried informed the locals and a search operation was launched. But Zaheer could not be traced.

On Thursday September 12 morning, the locals found Zaheer's clothes and footwear near a pond located on a private land. The police and fire personnel were informed and the search was resumed.

The body was located in KK Pura pond late in the morning.

During the search operation, firemen Manoj (44), Nishant (28) and Sajesh (27) were injured.

The body was shifted to Kasargod general hospital and later handed over to the family.

    My Deep Condolences for the dieased Zaheer .Any teenager or even a Learner Swimmer sould never swim without being closely watched by somebody .Reason it requires just fraction of a Minute .If the head that has dipped into water doesnt come out timely then somebody should help that head to come out if not they will be drowned

    Dear Parents,
    Pls keep an eye over your child and educate them what is good and what is bad. It is better to spend at least an hour with a child rather than crying once they are not in this world. may his soul rest in peace. may god give strength to his family to bear this loss.
