Mangalore, Sep 15: It's not everyday that a thief who lurks around at night is caught red-handed, but in an incident reported at Deralakatte here on Saturday September 14, that's exactly what happened.

The Ullal police caught a thief red-handed while he was trying to loot an ATM kiosk at Deralakatte.

The accused has been identified as Arun Kumar Shetty (30), a resident of Bagambila.

Ullal police who were patrolling the area at night, grew suspicious on seeing a bike parked in front of Corporation Bank ATM near Ayyappa Temple at Deralakatte. When they went to investigate, they saw a man wearing a monkey cap trying to break open the ATM with a gas cutter.

The police swung into action, and immediately closed the door of the ATM and called the police control room. He was arrested and handed over to Konaje police.

During interrogation, Arun said that he owned a battery shop near the ATM kiosk, and loss in business had forced him to attempt the theft.

Konaje police have registered a case.

ATM machines are fixed to provide the solution for those went bankrupt in business, monkey caps are made to hide the identity, gas cutters to cut open the hard steel metal sheets, bike is made to ride in narrow streets to escape from the spot, Shetty's purpose is right but act is wrong hence he was caught by the police, because police are meant to catch the thief.
