Japan interested in Bangalore-Mysore bullet train project: CM

Bangalore, Sept 16 (PTI) : Japan has evinced interest in funding and sharing technology in a bullet train project in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said here today.

Siddaramaiah said he had a meeting with Japan's Minister for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Hakubun Shimomura, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum meeting at Dalian in China.

The Japanese side evinced interest in a high speed (bullet) train project in terms of technology and investment and promised to send a delegation to Bangalore on an exploratory visit, the Chief Minister said in a media briefing on his three-day China trip.

"A bullet train between Bangalore and Mysore (about 140 kms) is necessary as we want to decongest Bangalore. One can reach Mysore in 30 minutes (by bullet train)", said Siddaramaiah, who appeared impressed by his eight-minute travel by a high speed train from Shanghai central to Pudong international airport covering a distance of 50 kms.

He said the Dalian convention centre was built by the Chinese to host WEF meeting in just 10 months, adding his government is inspired by the idea and wants to build an international convention centre near Bangalore airport at Devanahally on PPP model at a cost of Rs 400 crore to Rs 500 crore.

The Chief Minister, who was accompanied by a 14-member business group and nine-member official team, said China's growth and development are impressive. "We have to learn and imbibe the quality (of infrastructure) and vision from them", he remarked.

State officials said Malaysia's Q1 Group expressed interest in investing in e-retail, IT and education sectors in Karnataka while Spanish firm Acciona did so in waste water treatment, renewable energy projects and wind energy when Siddaramaiah held one-on-one discussions with top executives of the two companies.

The CM sought to showcase investment opportunities in sectors like IT, BT, aerospace, manufacturing, food processing and tourism and wind energy during his interactions with senior executives of several companies as also at a road-show that Karnataka government hosted at Dalian attended by 150 investors and entrepreneurs, officials said.

I feel sorry for CM Siddu's plan to build Bullet train between Bangalore and Mysore. His only reason for building this line is to de-congest Bangalore city. CM hails from Mysore region and so he would be pro n biased in this particular project. He is lobbying with himself to get this project done. If Mysore had a Sea, Siddu would have planned to build a world-class port in mysore. Unfortunately both Bangalore and Mysore can never have gift of Sea.

When it comes to commuting, Sea route is the cheapest and fuel-efficient mode of transport. If 1,000 litre of fuel is needed for airline to connect two geographical ends, same distance would require 50 litres of fuel for road-transport vehicle and just 1 litre for a ship to cover same distance. Can Mangalore or KArwar be ignored by State Capital Bangalore ? As someone pointed out, Mangalore has enormous potential to generate opportunities n revenue to people/government. Mysore just has historical constructions which are of touristic value. For trade/commerce etc., Mangalore is the only city for Karnataka which should have grown in similar style as Chennai Metro.

Even Kerala CM understands importance of Mangalore, thats why he wants to build a bullet-train line linking Thiruvananthapuram n Mangalore-Karwar. Ooman Chand has already begun process of implementing this plan by way of forming expert committees to study the impacts, he already is talking to central goverment for funds etc. May be Siddu is waiting fr Chandi to build a Bullet train network from Kerala to KArwar. Siddu might later join Bangalore to Mangalore !!

Why not we can think different, implement a concept change and solve our severe problems of surface transport sector?
In spite of advanced technology, technical human power and huge investment on roads and infrastructure, why still we carry and move millions of tons of dead weight of commuters and goods like infants, for thousands of miles, every day, by consuming a huge volume of expensive fuel?
Why not we can use a new concept by utilizing the huge dead weight on wheels as a pushing force, by taking the example of falling apple which had introduced the gravity power and force of falling water which generates electricity?
Why we need to follow a primitive, slow and steady tortoise style and face severe problems on roads?
THE MERGER of horse and kangaroo style OR tortoise and rabbits style, with a special link in vehicles can save more than 70% of expensive fuel, eliminate pollutions, reduce costs of manufacturing, running and maintenance of vehicles to below 50% and increase capacities of existing vehicles to more than 4 to 5 times of normal capacities.
Hence we can have a peaceful society, stable economy and clean environment.

Dear Siddu sir, Why we need to depend on other countries? and send our peoples/ countries money to other country?, which was collected from poor people in the forms of taxes and other levies. India, in particular Karnataka have more well educated peoples (jobless), make use of them and develop our own technology’ make our own Research center. By doing so, we can achieve 3 things * reduce unemployment ratio, * stop brain drains & * can achieve development ourselves and become a model to country to other nations in the world.!! Don’t it sounds good?? May be one day other country minsters will come to Karnataka and ask our help to guide them to develop our technology and polices.

It is not the question of other countries taking advantage. Please understand that, where infrastructure are huge projects are concerned global tenders are called for and the bidder who offers the best quality, time frame and best cost option is offered the tender. Today Indian companies like L&T, Shapporji Pallonjee, Punj Lloyd, GMR etc are building huge infrastructure projects in countries across the globe. They won these bids through global tenders floated by those countries and nobody in those countries complained about Indian companies winning those contracts. Therefore it is wrong on your part to say that foreigners are eating the money from our poor. If they are able to offer us a better cost option and quality than our own companies, why not?

I was recently in China and traveled by this bullet train which runs @ 300 km per hour, and was very much impressed by the Chinese overall developments and progress, especially in the cities of Shanghai and Beijing. It will take another 50 years or so for India to catch up with the present China, the way the things are going at the moment. So, the bullet train from Bangalore to Mysore is only a wishful thinking by the Honourable Minister at the moment. It is nice to set high vision and ambition though. Good luck Sir!

Self defeating attitude will lead us nowhere. We had some of the worst airports recently. However, now we can boast of some of the best airports in the world ( Delhi, Hyderabad, Cochin, Bangalore). Even the upgraded terminal in Mumbai is very good. Therefore please do not say that we are 50 years behind China. If Siddhu takes the bull by the horn, then this bullet train project can become reality within no time. Such initiatives by the government need to be encouraged. People like Nagesh and some RSS chamchas have no better things to do than point fingers because they are actually cringing at what their BJP government did to Karnataka in the little time that they were in power. It was the worst government to rule Karnataka since independence.

Ha Ha. What a big statement from this cm :-)

Every one knew this 5-6 years before only. Japan is interested. But Karnataka Politicians are not interested.

Bangalore-Mysore bullet train project will not benefit much except some tourism development. Bullet train should run between Bangalore and Mangalore, this will boost state's economy. Mangalore is second highest revenue generating city of state after Bangalore. In addition Mangalore is education, financial hub. But Mangalore is always ignored by state govt and also from our local politicians. In Mysore nothing is there except Infosys Building, KRS, Zoo and Palace. Revenue wise Hubli/Gulbarga/Belgaum is better than Mysore. When you are investing something on some project you should first see how to get the return on your investment.
