Udupi, Sep 17: Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) national president, H D Deve Gowda said that he is in the process of reviving his party and strengthening it at the grassroots level.

“I am working towards revival of my party in the state. I have initiated measures to strengthen my party at the grassroots, he said, addressing a press meet at Hotel Swadeshi during his visit to the district on Tuesday, September 17.

He further said that he began his work in Udupi, and will extend it to Chikmagalur, Uttar Kannad, Mangalore and Shimoga in the coming days. "I also sought blessings at Kollur Mookambika temple," he added.

"There are many good workers and leaders in the party. All top leaders like P G R Sindhia will take part in the process of strengthening the party. I plan to visit all 30 districts and meet party workers before the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections," he said.

He strongly opposed the idea of building a Third Front. "It will be entirely the people’s decision on who will come to power next," he said.

He brushed aside a question on BJP's PM nominee Narendra Modi and said, "As far Modi is concerned, I do not want to rate him. My limits are confined to the state. There are many regional political partues in the country in various states. We are with CPI (M) and we will work with them," he said.

Kundapur, Sep 17: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda paid a visit to the Kollur Mookambika Temple here on Tuesday, September 17 and offered puja.

Speaking to media persons, he said that he could not come to the temple for some time due to ill health. Now that he has started travelling in order to meet party workers in different places, he has come to the temple to pray and obtain god’s blessings.  It is after two years that he is visiting the temple, he said.

When political questions were raised by the reporters, he initially refused to speak about them saying that he does not want to speak about politics in the temple.  However, when he heard that the journalists were waiting for him since 6 am, he answered some of their questions.

When asked if JD(S) had become weak in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, he said that sincere and active party workers will work unitedly to strengthen the party.  "In modern politics we have to proceed looking at the sincerity and strength of the party workers. The party has to be strengthened from the base.  Appropriate strategy will be adopted after discussions with party president and senior leaders in Bangalore," he said.

When questioned about the governance of chief minister Siddaramaiah, he said that he does not want to personally criticize anybody.  As regards projecting Narendra Modi as the future Prime Minister, he did not comment on it saying that it relates to internal affairs of the BJP.

Kollur temple assistant executive officer Krishnamurthi, executive committee president Krishanprasad Adyanthaya, JD(S) state vice-president Vasanth Salian, district president Deviprasad Shetty Belapu, district convenor Sabladi Manjayya Shetty, chief secretary Kollur Srikantha Adiga, treasurer Bedthi Gangadhar Bhandari, SC/ST unit president Ramesh and local leaders were present.

If BJP has been routed out , what do you expect from the Twin Districts.

Think that it is too late to strengthen the roots, when the grass is already dead. Go home and take some badly needed rest. (old age)

As long as JDS is branded as the Regional Party of only OLD MYSORE Vokkaliga Caste, it cannot take root in Coastal Area or North Karntaka.
Even though Deve Gowda became P.M. of India he still continues to play petty caste Politics like local Panchayat member. So his party cannot spread to non-vokkaliga area.

Good to see him going to the most popular temple to seek God's blessings. But starting at grass root level in twin districts is a waste of time he has. I think he better calls it a day for politics. Then may be the young blood in the party attempts to revive. Good luck.
