Udupi, Sep 19: A girl who was allegedly kept under house arrest and tortured by her brother was released following a raid on Wednesday September 18 at Innanje near Kaup here.

The girl was freed on after villagers raided the house along with the police.

On Wednesday, around 30 people entered the house and freed the girl who was locked in one of the rooms. Police admitted the girl to Udupi Ajjarakad district hospital and begun investigation.

It is learnt that the girl was allegedly locked in and tortured from the past 3 to 4 years by her brother Nithyananda and his wife Bhavani.

Locals have alleged that she was not allowed to come out of the house and that she was not given sufficient food.

The girl's brother, in his defence, claimed that his sister was mentally ill and would stay in her room all the time.

Poor Girl. They spoiled her life at this Young Age .Whether it can be better in future? It Looks like brother and his wife treated her like sadists.whatever the Girl is they have no right to treat her in that way.doubt if brother had other intentions and wife had to be silent? otherwise why they should lock her?Even a psychiatric Person Need Treatment and as a brother take care of a sister with love and not torture.Hope she will recover and they get punishment .

After proper investigation truth will come out. if it is a case of mental illness then it is a case of concern. it is difficult to look after the mentally ill people. they uncontrolable. they can cause harm to others. they disrobe themself and roam around. the families if poor are unable to spend for medcines which are very costly. so they opt to keep the M.I.persons confined in locked rooms. when we look at th m.i. patients we may feel sorry for them but the tentions and the trama the affected families undergo is more terrible

Many parts of India is still in stone age. Social network is very poor due to poor governance country wide. National ID will play a important role as each family members registration is compulsory and need to be renewed every year. At time of renewal the missing person of a family will come to light and after observation authorities should alert the concerned department if they are not convinced with the proof.

About renewal\missing person ok if it is required personal presence during that time.
If renewal is done online then it is not possible to know anything at all.

I would suspect either property issue or she must be ill which would have forced her brother to keep her arrested. This is also not acceptable as he would have put her under some ashram or hospitalised her if some treatment required. Mainly looks property issue ...
