Karkala, Sep 21: The Udupi district court has sentenced murder accused Veerendra Poojary (38) of Attur to life imprisonment.

Poojary was convicted of killing 30-year-old Sandeep Kulal at Nitte Attur Padav on April 23, 2012.

Poojary had taken a loan of Rs 20,000 from a chit fund run by Santosh, but had failed to repay him, which led to dispute.

On April 23, 2012, trouble arose between Poojary and Santosh's brother Sandeep Kulal during a wedding function. Poojary then went home, got hold of a sharp weapon and went to the bus stand with the intention of killing Sandeep. As soon as Sandeep arrived there, Poojary confronted him and killed him in cold blood. A case was registered in Karkala rural police station.

Justice B M Angadi who examined the case awarded life sentence and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Veerendra Poojary as his guilt was proved. T S Jituri was the public prosecutor for the case.

There is a clear proof that Poojary has murdered Sandeep, then why he is given life imprisonment, he should have been sent to gallows. Who will pay
for his expenses in the jail. Does the murderer has the right to live.

You are right Mr. Abdul Rafiq - Uchila / Dubai, Why life sentence? Why not death sentence. He intended and planned to kill somebody (Sandeep) and killed him so he has no right to be alive. Why the Law is so weak?
