Mangalore: Moral policing in Kulur - Call centre attacked

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore

Mangalore, Sep 23: In a case of moral policing, a group of four persons allegedly barged into a call center located in Kulur on Friday September 20 and attacked employees working there.

As per the information obtained, on Friday late night, the group, saying that girls should not work on night shifts, barged into the Orbis business management call center and tried to enter the cabin where girls were working.

Meanwhile, Ashwin, an employee, who tried to stop them was assaulted. Call center senior customer service officer Bharath Kumar filed a complaint with Kavoor police that Rajesh, Harish, Deepak and Shiva attacked their office.

Acting on the complaint, police arrested the accused and released them on bail.

Meanwhile DYFI district president Muneer Katipalla condemned the incident and said that those who indulge in moral policing are not scared of the law anymore.

"Initially when Congress party came to power, people involved in moral policing were scared but not anymore. Action against moral policing is now restricted to media statements alone, he said.

A case has been registered in Kavoor police station.

Don't nurses work in night shifts? Can one keep barging into every single hospital asking them not to work there? This very attitude is the cause for no major IT/ITES MNCs starting up in Mangalore. Bear in mind that there are various IT enabled services that require employees to work in night shifts for directly interacting with clients avoiding the time zone difference. People work for their livelihood and be happy these are atleast working in legal jobs and not resorting to theft/murder/rape at night. Act like people ready to adapt to the changing world.

I want to ask this question to those who attacked the call center...

If they donot work there in night shift, Will you give those employees salary from your pocket???

    Answer will be: NO

Reason: They themselves do not have a job!!!!!!

Attitude: I am illiterate and jobless, i will not let anyone work peacefully in the town.

This is the reason why so many mangaloreans work abroad or in other cities... If Such things happen which MNC will open a branch in mangalore??? Very soon they will attack Infosys in Kottara and Mphasis in Morgan's Gate and it will also shutdown, leaving more than 1000 people jobless.

Moral policing is a chronic desease in Mangalore. It is not so easy to wipe out. There are strong teachers, sponsors and brain washers. Some people may be from government departments also having soft corner for it.You can change governments by vote and not them.So with this backup violence loving people can go in and out of jail. Transferring the wrongs and replacing the rights is a better solution for a peaceful Mangalore.

I want to put some concern here first which none of them has put so far.
    1) Call center is not only available in Mangalore but it is available all over india, prominent cities like blore,Hyderabad, Chennai, pune, NCR etc. we also have one more call center called Mphasis
    2) Most Call Center jobs are night basis jobs since they need to speak to US, UK clients due to time zone difference and Timing is normallly between 10 pm to 6 am.
    3) Those sitting in Gulf or abroad gets handsome salary without any taxes can comment saying girl should be stay in office till 6 pm evening. They say it because they get handful salary and there is no need for ladies to work for them but in india its not the case
    4) since call center jobs are easily available, Many youngsters grab this for their daily earning and even the candidate with less qualification can get this job easily.
With above Points, It is clear those girls are doing the job for daily earning, they were not doing doing any parties or drinking. There were doing their jobs. But problem is that WHO ASKED THIS HOOLIGANS TO BARGE INTO OFFICE AND ATTACK AN EMPLOYEE AND DAMAGE THE PROPERTIES IN THE OFFICE?
Before they attacked the pub, Then a guest house.. Now General Office..
I dont understand what this hooligans really want?
Do they want all the cultured, educated, peace loving people to leave the city and stay elsewhere in other cities?
With this now no Industry, corporate sectors ,IT , BPO, KPO and Manufacturing units will invest or come to mangalore
and we as usual have to depend on bangalore or gulf for our better livelihood.
No doubt these are uneducated, illiterate, Jobless people and they have no other work to do except listening to their
Leaders Who is also uneducated and illiterate. These hooligans will get the daily earnings from their leaders or from their political parties.. What about those who struggle for their daily earnings thru call centers?

Regular news of such moral brigades going on a destruction rampage and assaulting innocent people are keeping Mangluru and surrounding areas constantly in the media glare for all the negative reason, which is sending all wrong signals to the outside world some of whom might be thinking of setting businesses or set base here!!

If the ordinary citizen has to live in constant fear of such attacks why will anyone want to settle down in such a place would be the question?

With the infamous religious attack case perpetrators not being brought to justice, the group is emboldened and carries out moral policing without any inhibition!!! Jai Mangluru Jai Hind!!

Honestly, with poor infrastructure, hiked up real estate prices, regular immoral policing and attacks, Lack of high paying jobs and high cost of living, I don't think Mangalore is a suitable place to invest.

Dr. J. Lancy D'souza, your propositions/suggestions are to be considered by ladies. In addition they should carry some spray (to spray in the eyes of the attackers to give burning sensation and make them temporarily blind). Why police also take such crimes easy. Ultimately, how one can continue life from these thugs? Time may come one day that layman is needed to live by gun to counter such attacks. An Eye for eye and tooth for tooth philosophy.

@Lydia, very pertinent comments!! Fanaticism/Fundamentalism has no place in modern world!! Let women do what they want, who is anybody to give diktat they should not work after xyz time? Recently even Supreme Court has given justice to thousands of ladies who are suffering due to closure of ladies bars in Maharastra by giving them clean chit!!

Such rabid incidents by some vested interests are further spoiling the already damaged image of Mangluru in the eyes of potential businessmen and industrialists eyeing to set up base here!! There are much better cities/towns and this place is only hype and hoopla, feel ashamed to comment being originated from the same place!! Jai Hind!!

Pertinent comments ?? Sarcasm too has a limit ? Huh ?

You see women working only bars to given an example ?

What about thousands of hospitals that run at nights ? Lady Doctors/Nurses ? What about BPO that cater to the world on the other side of the globe for which our professionals are required to serve ?

But, its alright if men loiter around bars till morning hours, their wife/mother is expected to greeted waiting awake at home.

Well, I under no circumstances generalize men as all are moral police/rapists but those who are, indeed do damage the image of Mangaluru - surely not the girls employed at the bars.

It was not sarcasm, a case of wrong perception!! I specifically cited bar girls because even the apex court thought that it was their fundamental right to earn a living (a profession which is heavily looked down upon)!!

It is not the question of loitering, which again is one's personal business irrespective of gender!! Who is anybody to pass diktats on what another is doing as far as he/she is not violating the rules and regulations of the place!!

Feel ashamed to say "moral policing" is one addition to the many negatives this place has got, only hype and hoopla generated by NRI money and some students from other states with the flourishing of educational institutes!!!

    Imran,

Let alone after 6 O'clock, I don't think you allow your women to work outside at any time. Therefore, let the women of other communities deal with the matter, fight for their existence and survive !

What is important is that a man must be protective towards women irrelevant of his relationship towards to them. We women want a rightful living, not a situation that we pity ourselves and blame our parents did not kill us in fetal stage ! Are these men eradicating us because our parents understood our right to live ?

Even children returning from schools are abused - did they go against your time zone or its the men who erred away from morals their family taught them ?

Treat the root cause young man, not the symptoms ! By limiting women to working hours, you are approving the moral police as well as rapists !

Re: Imran's Dubai comments that women should not work after 6.00 pm....Do you have sufficient Male Nurses to do the Nursing jobs in the Hospitals, If you open up your eyes in UAE all hospitals run 3 shifts one from morning till 2 another from 2 till 10 and another night shift from 10 till 6.00 am. Just go around and look for yourself, they are seen in their uniforms all over.

Though the incident is condemnable, this is question itself to the employer. It is clear here that there is no safety in their working place. If proper security was provided at the place of employment this goondas could have been stopped. Put the hooligans behind the bar or a year without bail.

How is it affecting them if ladies work in call centers ? Are they their mother, sisters or any other relatives ? Did the women ignore their home and went to work ? Lets say, yes - then would have been the reason for the ladies to work in call centers ? Exactly because these men are jobless, parasites on the women.

Now, Rajesh, Harish, Deepak and Shiva, please find a job and ensure that there is enough to feed your family members than living a life of negation. Then, the women in your family will respect you, will do what pleases you and you will be in a position to explain them why/what displeases you !

    Steven,

If you had attacked me, I would have understood because you had to leave the comforts of home, go to a country far away and live a slave's working conditions to earn your bread. At this situation if you envy women, I will understand your mental imbalance.

But, the men who are out to each moral to the public are for sure jobless therefore their sisters/mother work even after dark. Tell, me - would the women rather work even under such situations or starve with their brothers/sons living as parasites on the family ?

If Police are given a strict order, then they will act & see that the culprits won't get bail easily.
In the absence of any directions from above they slap sections easily bailable.
Yes Where there is Will, there is a Way.

its better to work for ourselves and feed our families rather than having an extra ordinary interest in someone else's work and lifestyle.its better to clean our houses first before cleaning your neighbour's residence.and for this reason you go to middle east or some other foreign country 90% of the people have no idea who their neighbours are.they do not know who is living in the next flat/residence.

Left on bail? Why did they catch them at the first place then. This is seriously alarming, entering the office and assaulting employees should be 10 years in prison.

If the cops can't identify or catch the thiefs it's a different story, here these guys have identified faces and they have caught them too. Why bail them so easily?

one solution is to make all semi-skilled jobs gender equal. For example: Rickshaw drivers, bus drivers, female sub-inspectors (why only males in mangalore/udupi everytime??) etc. should also have females running the vehicle. By seeing that women are also capable of doing all jobs that males can do, will these moronic moral police monkeys, realize that females are equal to men. These fellows are ignorant, jobless, and paid by a political party to disrupt normal functionings of a society.

SIDDARAMIH SIR,R U LISTENING THIS?How they got bail? India is a democratic country and not ruled by TAALIBANIS.Such kind of incidents and thereafter govt/police actions makes us to think that there are no differences between communal BJP and Congress led govt?while dealing with troublemakers.Police/Govt must show serious responsibilities.....

This is the second or third incident after Congress came to power.
There is no will to eradicate moral policing because ruling party can get political milage by keeping these kind of things always alive.
More they allow these kind of things, their vote bank will be safely protected.
Just compare our state with Goa. Mutalik was giving big statements that he will start moral policing there also. Was he able to enter into that state??
Where there is a will there is a way.
