Udupi, Sep 23: The agitating parents of children studying in Madhavakripa School held a meeting with the management on Monday September 23 following the shocking sexual assault by school bus employees on an LKG student studying in the school last week.

The parents, who said that negligence of the management and staff was to blame for the incident, prepared a 12-point questionnaire for the management prior to the meeting and demanded answer for each question. They also demanded clarification over the security lapse in the school premises.

Madhavakripa School was earlier managed by Manipal Academy and later was handed over to the Pearson Group. The parents said that were not satisfied with the explanations given by the CEO Srikanth and Umashankar Vishwanath on the issue.

"We are not happy with the management of Pearson Group and are also dissatisfied with principal Jessy Andrews," they said.

Thereafter, G K Prabhu, registrar of Manipal University and president of the school management who arrived at the school managed to calm down the parents.

He assured the parents that immediate measures will be taken regarding security measures and a parent-teacher association will be formed within a month. "The PTA meeting will be held every month on the third Thursday in future. Annual general body meeting will be held every year," he said.

Further he assured that before appointing any staff, police verification will be made a must. CCTV cameras will be installed at various points in the campus soon, he said.

"As far as this case is concerned, complete support will be given to the parents and we will cooperate fully with the police in taking immediate action against the culprits," he assured.

He stressed that safety would be the priority of the management. "Pearson Group should be more responsible. Henceforth a lady attender will be compulsorily appointed for each bus to accompany the kids and ensure their safety," he said.

Meanwhile, there was minor chaos when members of Campus Front of India tried to stage a protest in front of the school without obtaining prior permission from the police. The situation was soon brought under control.

Udupi: Sexual assault on child - Parents rise in protest at Manipal school

Udupi, Sep 23: A day after the news broke out about the alleged sexual assault of a four-year-old nursery school student by three bus employees, scores of parents gathered at Madhavakripa School at Manipal here and demanded explanation from the school management.

The parents began a protest at the school premises asking management to respond to the issue. They alleged that the principal as well as the management had failed to respond even when the parents of the victim had approached them.

"When MLA Pramod Madhwaraj tried to contact the school over the issue, even then there was no reponse. We parents want the management to take some action and show interest in dealing with the case," one of the parents said.

"The school should hold a parent-teacher meeting. Even though its a big school there is a never a meeting with parents and whenever we have requested for it, we have been told that such meetings create noise. We pay fees to educate our children, hence, this should not be the attitude. There should be a proper system," they said.

Pramod Madhwaraj arrived at the school and said, "There is a complaint that the principal and the management are not taking responsibility for the incident. If it continues, we will inform the deputy commissioner to summon the principal and the management and take appropriate action," he said.

Meanwhile, the accused Shubhakumar and Sudheer were produced in the district and sessions court and remanded in judicial custody till October 5. They will be lodged in Hiriadka jail.

A girl aged 3 years and 10 months was allegedly sexually assaulted by three bus employees on September 16. The incident came to light two days later and complaint was lodged on Friday September 21. The police on Sunday September 22 arrested Shubhakumar and Sudheer, while the third accused is absconding.

It's really a shocking news to all of us in the family including my daughter Sanika who was a student of this school till last academic year. She also remembers the faces of those culprits very well & was wondering about how those men suddenly turned into animals all of a sudden. What happened to them that made them to do this dirtiest thing, that too with such a small baby? This clearly indicates that such guys are mentally sick & their mental sickness was not noticed by anybody. The security, CCTV surveillance, bus monitors... etc. are no doubt urgently required to be implemented, not only in this school but in every school in the best possible ways (keeping in mind the limitations of management) to curb such types of DIRTY incidences but first of all the mental health of all such types of guys who work as school bus drivers, attendants, peons has to be checked by good psychiatrists.

Those who do not pass mental fitness should be sacked brutally. Thereafter there should be regular, periodical mental fitness checking of all such types of employees. Because in my opinion, all these incidents are the results of severely deteriorating mental health of human being. Further, I may dare to say that even the management body members should go through the psychiatric screening .. Who dare to say that there is no need of regular parents - teachers meetings, along with these classes for employees. Some people may get hurt by my bold suggestions but this is the only solution which will curb such offenses & will protect our future generations coming to school.

Rapists are the animals and they should be punish in front of public. Now a days from LKG to Post graduates female students are not safe, so what measures should be taken by the police or school/college management, government at least install cameras in all buses and deploy more CID staff especially at night time in villages by pointing out the places where these culprits are taking advantages. ei: Udupi to Kaup (Pakirna katte, Jawanarkatte, majoor, kumbagudde etc.

It is true that they do not have PTA meeting like all other school may be they are worried all the parents will get together and ask them question regarding all the activities of the school concerning their child(academic and extra curricular)which they may not be able to answer. It is easy to get away from all the hassle if you do not have PTA meet.Very surprisingly whoever is asking how the kid came to know about the sexual attack, please check your facts first before commenting, it is the parents who found out the same by strange behavior of the child.

Please do not make any vague statement. One more surprising thing from this school, why they are putting all these security measures now?Is it a first of it in India. It has happened in many major cities, the latest one was in Mumbai. Why the school management not thought of it earlier, very surprising, are they waiting for the incident to happen. Measures they are talking about is already their in place in most of the school at least in Mumbai, other cities i do not know.If they had to do it all these precautionary measures earlier, the poor little one would have not gone through all these ordeal Whether it is Pearson or Madhav kripa management the result is very disastrous. In fact few months back. a gruesome act has taken place in Manipal university, even that not made them realize, that they should be more careful and get all their institute with increased measure of security. In one of the picture i have seen body guards are protecting the school from parents entering to school. Why that so, are they scared of anything or they are not able to face the parents.I think they are charging quiet a hefty fees for all their service then why not provide proper and safe service.I hope the high handedness, money and the muscle power of the management will not close these case as one off incident and put all the burden and responsibilities on the parents of protecting their child. Please do some thing as a permanent solution.

Any person involved in working with children needs a special licences issued by the Police. These two rogue bus cleaners look like criminals. The school management have failed in checking the credentials of these people. It is nothing but a failure of the school management in protecting kids. The similar incidence may have happened to other kids.

Now it is up to all parents whether to send their children to this money making school.
Now school agreed to keep each lady attendant in each bus! why before they never knew of this, sexual assault on children(even on boy) by bus driver or attender is a global issue and many people sentenced for that in other country but not in India.
Parents avoid this school, I will assure you they will not keep their promise nor improve their attitude because human memory is very short they know this.

Moral values in Indian society too is falling at such low standards.I have heard the school to be one of the best. Buses are also as per standards. School Management will have to further improve transportation standards for children after fair consultation with parents. With the mother of all evils - Alcohol entering every ones daily life especially from goa to Dakshina karnataka, deep down in villages too, the society is fast changing to a dangerous place to leave in. Quick police action and punishment, followed by school management, to inform the parents would be helpful. God Bless the child.

Mr. RN Pujari, this is a very unfortunate incident. The MLA of Udupi, I must say, has been very approachable to people inspite of his busy schedule. He met the parents of the child and asked them to file a case. Basically he guided them. When he came to know about the protest of parents against this school he IMMEDIATELY came there to talk to the other parents also. And pls read these lines carefully "Pramod Madhwaraj arrived at the school and said, "There is a complaint that the principal and the management are not taking responsibility for the incident. If it continues, we will inform the deputy commissioner to summon the principal and the management and take appropriate action," he said."
Hope you read it properly and understood the same . People should think twice before commenting.

Appears that molesting innocent kiddies has been going on for ages but now with increased awareness and communication, things have started surfacing from the murky underbellies of so called "respectable places"!!! As in the recent Shakti Mills case, here too, these accused should have been doing this for long and escaped by threatening the survivor kids!! The police should probe deeper and find out how many more kids they have abused and bring it in the open!!!

As now enforced in Mumbai all school buses should compulsorily have a female attendant who should be accountable for the safety of the kids!!

For that matter even small boys also are not safe as there could be many perverted men around to abuse them too!!
