Mangalore, Sep 23: A person claiming to be the nephew of union minister Oscar Fernandes has been accused of cheating a Puttur resident of his money with false promises of providing a job to his sister.

In the complaint filed on Monday September 23 at Pandeshwar police station, it is alleged that Oscar Meredian (45), a resident of Kankanady, promised to provide a job to the sister of Jagadish, a resident of Puttur, but later duped him. Jagadish is the proprietor of Professional Couriers, B C Road.

The complaint states that Meredian promised to get the accounting job for Jagadish's sister in National Research Centre for Cashew using his uncle's influence, and demanded Rs 3 lac to get it done.

After much negotiation, Jagadish agreed to pay him Rs 50,000, and accordingly transferred the money to the account of a common friend, Preetham D'Souza in January 2013. The money was later handed over to Meredian by Preetham D'Souza.

However, though 8 months have passed, Jagadish's sister has not got the job, and neither has Meredian repayed the money.

It is said that Meredian kept changing his sim cards and stopped responding to calls.

The complaint was filed by Preetham D'Souza. It is alleged that apart from Jagadish, Meredian has cheated many people in a similar way in the name of Oscar Fernandes. However, the complainant later said he was not sure if the person was really the minister's nephew, and urged the police to enquire.

Further investigations are on.

Speaking to daijiworld, Oscar Fernandes said that there was no such person by name 'Oscar Meredian' among his relatives at all. "I have nothing to do with the case," he asserted.

This person should be put behind bars & should not be left out.He should get only 1 time food so that he can realize how difficult it is to earn money by sweating. Cheating others & enjoying with it is nothing compared to hard earned money . This guy should be punished severely

This is strange, how can people blindly believe some one who claims to be nephew or relative of some great politician or well known public personality?
Also kindly confirm the identity of the person and full name. There could be an error in this name for all you know. Please re-confirm identity before you deal with people specially when money is involved . It is unfortunate incident.

I am very happy that the person lost his money and his daughter did not get the job. Citizens blame political leaders for the corruption but they forget that corruption is in existence because of greedy persons among us. The above case is a perfect example of corruption by ordinary citizens.

Police should also book case against the person who has paid the money as his motive was to cheat the general public.

Meredian is a strange surname, We Mangalorean Catholics do not usually have surname like this. This person Jagadish should have realized when this guy approached him. Just because this person shares his first name with Osacar Fernandes, Jagdish might have fallen into his trap. It looks like the name is also not genuine. May be it is fake ''Meredian''' doesn't digest to me

May be just because this guys name is suffixed by Oscar, tainted BJP want to tarnish Oscar Fernande`s image. This may be the gimmick played by BJP to spoil the image of Oscar Fernandes in view of forthcoming elections. May be Jagadish is paid Rs. 50 K or even more to play this drama. Many more dramas may also follow here after.

Some one called to the Attorney General of India in the name of Sonia Gandhiji on September 5 and 11 saying that you have not investigated coal-mining case thoroughly. At the time of calling Soniaji was in U.S. for medical treatment. The A.G., has now complained to home minister and the police.

These things are cropping up now because of election season.

Also Mr. Oscar Fernandes is in the town and to malign his name during election periods some crocked people have done this heinous acts to spoil the name of congress and Mr. Oscar.

I dont think any commentor here is a Govt servant. Otherwise he would have known that 80% of the govt jobs including that of ordinary Clerk or Peon are SOLD. Let any one who has joined Govt job after 1980 boldly tell that he has got that job purely on merit without paying bribe. You can see many boards of " Job Consultancy " all over Karnataka. These Job consultants are none but Brokers for getting govt jobs.
KPSC Karma Kanda has been going on since last 40 years, but only recently some have been caught that too only after High Court intervened.

How this man from Puttur get job for money? Is he gone out of senses? It is because of these kind of people who offer money to get jobs that hardworking people don't get jobs. This cheater and other party also should be behind bars as both of them are at fault.
