Now, pay Rs 10 for Narendra Modi rally in Bangalore

Bangalore, Sep 23 (NDTV): The Bharatiya Janata Party is keen on cashing in on Narendra Modi's popularity, quite literally. With general elections now months away, the party has decided to hold a series of rallies across India where the attendees will be charged a token fee to listen in to its prime ministerial candidate.

It's Rs. 10 for a Bangalore rally, scheduled next month. "Please don't say charging, it's a voluntary contribution. This is a good change for Indian politics," Karnataka BJP' state general secretary, Nirmal Kumar Surana, told NDTV.

The party has also decided to charge Rs. 5 per head for a similar rally in Bhopal next week, but to be paid only by party workers.

While the party defends the trend of charging people for a rally as a novelty in Indian politics, it is aware of the controversy that a similar move had generated two months ago.

In July, the BJP decided to charge Rs. 5 for a Narendra Modi rally in Hyderabad, calling it a paradigm shift in politics. The Congress took a jibe, calling it a reflection of Modi's "market value."

The BJP rescinded the decision, instead calling the contribution a "delegate fee" to be paid voluntarily, with the money raised to be donated for relief and rehabilitation in Uttarakhand, ravaged by flash floods.

Keen to avoid another controversy, the BJP has a rationale ready for the Bangalore rally. Former state minister, R Ashok, says, "Last time in Hyderabad, they charged for Uttarakhand flood relief. In Karnataka, we are thinking of contributing to some organisation for public use."

Modi's earlier rally in Bangalore ahead of the Karnataka assembly elections in May this year had generated a huge response. But that did not translate into votes for the BJP, which had ruled the state for five years. The party came a distant third while the Congress now governs the state.

That perhaps explains why the Karnataka Congress is not amused, calling the Rs. 10-fee another gimmick. State Congress president, G Parameshwara, said, "We have seen these gimmicks. We are not the United States of America where you pay for a dinner and support that particular party."

EVERYBODY WANTS RAHUL TO BE PM EXCEPT HIM. HE HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING GREAT WHEN GIVEN A CHANGE TO HEAD YOUTH CONGRESS.

ALL ARE RIGHT IS TELLING MODI IS NOT A RIGHT CANDIDATE OR SPEAKS A LOT BUT PRESENT PM DOES NOT SPEAK ATALL. ATLEAST MODI WANT TO DO SOMETHING GREAT, CAN’T WE GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO PROVE HE HAS SHOWN IT IN THE PAST. GUJARAT IS REALLY DEVELOPED A LOT, IT’S THE FACT. He made Gujarat to achieve 10% growth rate of the state for the last 10 year, best achievement in this crisis periods. Modi is the only honest and effective political leader amongst the highly corrupt leaders of India. That is why capital and Investments from all over the world is flowing to Modi.

Inflations, scams, corruption does not matter for now, and it wont matter if the rupee against dollar goes to 100 as well..

What matters and what's important and needs to stop is some useless moral police entering building and attacking, assaulting men and women working late nights..

What's important is our daughters, ladies, women (young and old) should have safety and protection.. Not get molested and the culprit gets protection or is absconding..

It should be the same old Mangalore / Udupi back in the 1990's where we lived as Indians, Mangaloreans as a community and not as Hindu, Muslim, Christian or BJP, CONGRESS, JDS...

Hope you get my point...if not please pay 10 rs and participate in the rally!

    @ Tony Fernandes,
My Question was not about how often NIC meet takes place. My question was, why FEKU (who is expecting PM post in upcoming LS election) avoiding such meetings?
Doesn't he hold any responsibility towards such serious issues?
Is he meant for only organizing rallies & doing FEKUgiri, rather than interacting with people and media directly?

He knows, if he faces media or people directly, he should answer their questions, where as in rallies, people come, laughs at him and goes. Nobody speaks!
He knows, whenever matter of communal tensions comes, all cameras & mics turns toward him & he can not escape from there!!
He is hesitating to get exposed by media before LS elections. So playing it safe !!!

One suggestion to you Mr. Tony, blindly pls don't add any surnames after someones name.

FEKU is not only dreaming about becoming PM, but also how to collect money from poor voters.
He is not at all bothered about country’s development & communal harmony.

Yesterday there was 'National Integration Council' meet in Dehli on ‘Communal Harmony’ & Chief Ministers of all states were invited & most of the CMs were present there, ‘except BJP CMs including FEKU’.
It was a very serious & most necessary discussion took place, to find out the way, how we can tackle such situations in states, whenever there is communal rift. Main subject of the discussion was ‘Role of Social Networking sites in communal riots as well as harmony’
Still, FEKU skipped this important meet, because he was worried, someone will throw question on Gujrat riots & his involvement in fake encounters. Also, he & his supporters are targeting social networking sites to abuse & accuse opposition party and mislead people with fake statistics.

FEKU doesn’t have courage to face these questions directly. He just can fool people.

Some may not be even ready to watch him even if they are paid :)

And for your kind information BJP has got good number of seats in Bangalore that too after the visit of Modiji and also lost few seats in Bangalore and other parts of karnataka only due to the split of votes with KJP. BJP lost seats in the coastal belt due to the blunders committed by BJP which the party was paid for it. So please dont be under the impression that people fully elected congress on its own. Congress should definately thank Yeddy who helped them in getting majority. Also winning and loosing is a part of life. For congress the recent victory is like mangana kaiyalli manikya and that's the reason they are still celebrating vijayotsava even after 5 months by keeping all the development works aside.

    To recover the loss.
First one was ok - lot of people attended as it was novel for the people after so much hype about Modi.
They were utterly disappointed and the news spread about the fake hype.
subsequesnttly it was a loss to hold his rally and now they are forced to increase attendance fee to Rs.10\- and after Bangalore the fees will be Rs.50\- and so on.

People should think twice before pay this amount, Rs 10 will be small amount for a single person but if it is collected from 20% India population it will be a huge amount, be careful...

We r ready to spends thousands on movies but not ready to spend even to Rs.5 to listen to India's future prime minister. In fact I would say all political parties should follow this idea. Modi has shown even in his rallies how one should generate revenue....let him become PM India will be back on the growth path. You do not need doctorate to set the finances right. You only need a common sense and guts to take tough decisions

As a voter I am confused whom to vote.Congress is full of corruptions and I cannot accept Rahul as PM candidate.BJP is too communal and Modi is unfit for PM post due to tinted image and hate politics.I saw him accusing congress but never heard what he will do for the nation. There is no third option for the people like me.My final resort will be, look for the credentials of the candidate in my constituency.I will vote for the best person not the party.Lesson to learn from fall of Anna Hazare movement.Person had all capability to put an end to corrupt parties in India but failed utterly due to bad apples within the movement which polarized the actions accusing one ruling party. He could have continued unbiased agitations and had every potential to transform India. Our bad luck.

Congress is only good for making scams and loot this country.. and BJP doesn't fit to rule this country becoz its basic foundation itself is anti national.

He & his chelas thinks that his market value now increased after giving video-lecture to BJP-Indians in America.
There were only 1000 people seen his handwritten Hindi lecture. Whats the big deal in it?
Most of his lectures he spent for accusations against Congress government. Because he knows well there is nothing to show his deeds in Gujarat.

The Legal advisor to Asaram Bapu, Ram Jetmalani has all the records of black money holders in BJP.So they come with wise plans which can convert Black into white. Even though people do not pay but the accounts can be showed that crores of money was collected at the rally as membership fee or donation.
This is the culture of BJP for many years because, they do not get governments to rule and spend entire life in opposition. So it is the only way left to make money.

Gujjus are truly business minded people. This is one classic example. In the future you don’t need to be a singer or dancer to hold a sellout concert. All you have to be a BJP leader with an ability to spit out venom.

Yeddy must be cursing now why he did not think of this idea to make money instead of getting into ill-mining business. He could have easily made legal crores by delivering non-stop sermons throughout 5 years. At the discounted rate of as low as Rs 3 per person per speech he has an ability to deliver at least 4 speeches per day. So, with little bit of free wet stuff to his workers and with his glamour doll beside him, he could easily attract say about 50000 jobless people every time. End of the day - crores and crores of tax free money. This is a clean business, no fear of Hegdes, no fear of Judges.

Modi is not a candidate for a Corporate post.
He is a candidate for national leader.

    His credentials are doubtful.

How much ever, the readers in this forum, want to make a saint out of him, look inward and see if you know the WHOLE TRUTH.

If what media reports about A B C D is true, then what media reports about Modi also is true. If media reported, CBI unearthed corruption is true, then media reported CBI investigated state sponsored genocide in Gujarath also is true. TRUTH is now what pleases me. Truth is absolute.

Thinkers, intellectuals, honest and humane people, stop commenting and supporting at public forums without reflections. We are talking about the future of a large country, thickly populated, already divided on caste, language, culture, feuadalism, lines.
The person who guides this nation has to be inclusive, with a broader and clear thinking.

Modi may bring in progress... at the cost of what and whom? Progress for whom?

Youngsters in Germany do not even believe in a national day, national flag. They say they are not proud of their history, they say we wonder what our parents and grand parents did during THOSE years when Hitler ruled.

Let history not repeat in India

What is BJP.....just another individual party where every party worker is valued. I strongly agree that we should keep on bringing congress to power so that we can atleast have one India under one single Family whose heirs will be the future Princes no matter what their credentials are. Modi is nothing, just another simple Aam admi who thought he could bring a change to his motherland. But when we already have such a great dynasity since Independence who is ruling our country since last 50-60 years so well without corruption, we should never let people like Modi rule our country other then the royal family.
