Kundapur: Boys, girls partying in park detained after locals complain of 'immoral' activities

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur

Kundapur, Sep 24: A group of college students who were partying at Gandhi Park were on Tuesday September 24 detained by Kundapur women police after locals complained that the boys and girls had been indulging in immoral activities. The students were later handed over to their families.

A group of final year degree students, consisting of five boys and six girls went to Gandhi Park at 10 am on Tuesday. The locals who saw them alleged that the boys and girls were sitting close to each other and behaving indecently. They later informed the police as well as the media.

When the students did not leave the park even till noon, the locals grew suspicious about their behaviour and began gathering there.

On receiving information, the women police as well other police officials, fearing that the situation may turn tense, arrived at the spot and rounded up the youngsters and took them away.

The youngsters were detained in the women police station for questioning.

The boys said that they were on holiday since Saturday and four girls had planned to give their birthday parties together on Tuesday, and for this purpose they had called their other friends and assembled in the park. After spending time in the park till noon, they had planned to go to a hotel for lunch.

Later, the principal of their college arrived at the police station and took them to the college, where their parents were called. The students were then sent back to their homes. No case was registered.

I am so ashamed to watch the holy fanatics watching the students over an issue which in my opinion in none of their or any one's business!!

These by standers have no objectives of their own, and are of no use for fighting against corruption, superstition and economic backwardness of our region.

    Down with Taliban mentality!!

We dont need moral policing in Coastal region.

We have enough laws to punish anyone ((if they have broken any laws of our land))

Coastal people must learn to mind their own business and if possible, become responsible citizens that help one another.

People have lots of time to watch anything instead of minding their business. Morning hours everyone should have been at their workplace. Coming to this incident, what can you do during the day time. Do they not have the right to be anywhere? They are really well educated discipline students. These people should empty their mind of this kind of negativity and judge what they are doing is right or wrong.

The people gathered look as though they Have come to the Zoo. Poor students are they not the citizens of Independent India. Do they have no freedom to move freely in the company of the persons they like, at the places of their choice. You restrict them from going to the pubs, celebrating B'days in hotels or private houses, and now in parks. Where else you expect them to go? Under waters? OH No. Disgusted with all these restrictions the youth find their own ways to go straight to heaven.Every thing they do you find it immoral. What is the immoral activity the persons who complained found in them. The police should have locked these persons who complained and called for experts in counselling. When will these people improve. Not for another century for sure.

Is it the locals or the moral police who complained. The recently released culprits of Homestay are little wary of operating in Mangalore, after the hard rap they got on their wrists. Now that they have nothing to do, they are targeting Kundapur. As someone rightly pointed out what immoral acts can be committed in public that too in broad daylight?? This is pure jealousy as now-a-days girls prefer to date boys of their own caliber and status and do not care for uneducated goondas like these moral police. They indulge in such cases, but where are they when innocent children are molested/raped, children are forced into child labour, abduction and human trafficking, cases of which we are hearing quite commonly now-a-days especially in Kundapur. Why can't they use their time and energy into solving such social evils rather than be after college boys and girls who are out for relaxation during their holidays.

Is this a reason or an issue to draw public attention and criticise? What immoral activities can take place during broad day light? I remember during my college days we used to have picnics (catholic students union) at the beach and without any third party interference (of course little fund and no immoral activities)

I think the moral policing are active again that's all. It is not the neighbors but police in disguise doing like this. Such guys need to enter college and then only they will reform.

At the same time their sisters and daughters are kept at home and baned from mixing with the other sex's citing versus from their cultural beliefs. So all these preachigns are for other girls. So as far as its neighbours daughter then we are living in 21st century, but when it comes to girls of our own home, then its a serious matter. Other girls can have birthday party in Parks with boys or its justified because "what immoral activities they can do in the public park", but if one of the girs were their daughter or sister, this "Which century we are living in ? Police has lot of serious jobs to do" statements and all would not have come out.

At glance interference of local is uncalled for but there are some risks involved in such parties. To be more specific I would say sex harmones are at peak at this age and there is lot of curiocity due to harmonal release. At this age how best you have control on your mind but a isolated meeting of boy and girl will result in physical intimacy unknowingly. As far as psycological factor is concerned male by nature look for multiple partners where as females wired in opposite way. This is the age they are suppose to excel in studies instead of building relations with opposite sex.How educated may be the society but the basic instincts are inherited in our genes. That is why society restricts over freedom during student life.

I totally agree with you. In olden days, there were larger houses where family, friends and relatives assembled, for festivals/marriages/celebrations and mixed with opposite gender so that the mingling happened naturally. Shyness in approaching did not persist at a youth progressed towards adulthood.

Now, with limitation to nuclear families and minimum size of houses only time we socialize is at marriage halls or places of worship ! If you happen to talk to your brother outside your house, you need rakhi in your hand or the goons will bring Mangal-Sutra at their own expense ! A pub is attacked, a place where birthday party takes place is attacked !

Now, a park (thank God moral police did not come there too) is it a problem to get together ? Were they to take their parents with them to the park then ?

C'mon people - imagine one of the boys as your brother/son or a girl as your daughter/sister - would you have not approved their type of celebrating ?

Move on with the tide people - don't go back to the stone age ! Exactly because this type of restriction youth when grown up get anxious about opposite gender and get down to physical abuse of women !

It was very silly of the Police and the public. What happens if 4 students have a joint birthday celebration inviting their friends and cutting a cake in a public
park ? The park also belongs to these students. What was immoral in that ? or was it just jealousy that the goons were not given a piece of the cake ? The police instead should have allowed it and protected the students from the goons. I feel sorry / sad for these students.

You seem to have no family yet or you may have desired to do it when you were 10 but not allowed by your parents.

Believe me, under proper supervision from parents, children at no age desire to strip. Its your fantasy !

Yes after 10 years from now these students will have their own kids and will learn their responsibilities automatically...

Kundapur has so many useless people without any worthwhile work, who immediately gather to watch such foolish moral policing. Such vigilantes could not stop sexual abuse of just 4 year old child during day time in Manipal.

Problem here was not the presence of men but women that was troubling these goons minds. Basically these type of people want to Boss over women and show their supremacy (similar to goons found in Afgan called Taliban) these people dont really have any business to mind.

I don't understand in which world and which century we are living. what immoral activities they can do in the public park. where to go and with whom to go, these things are decided by students and their parents. If students are in wrong way, parents will take care about them. but why the public so worried about them? BD goondas would have beaten them but they came to know now, moral policing will get non bailable warrant. As per the supreme court's verdict, staying unmarried man and woman is not illegal. then why the police entertaining these kind of complaints from the public or BD goondas, just for sitting boys and girls together in the park.

I dont find any mistake with these young boys & girls. There is a gap between the old mentality and the present generation.

If the young ones can not meet in the open garden/Sea shore during broad day light where should they go. what is wrong in that. Why that garden and park exists. We aged also caged ones do not know how to appreciate when others enjoy. LOOK AT THESE STRANGE PEOPLE ARE VERY CURIOUS TO SEE "THE NEW GENERATION" WHICH THEY HAVE NOT SEEN BEFORE.

5 years of BJP rule has spread the poison through bajarangees and Senas in everybody's mind. It will take some time to set the things right in the society. If some youngsters are romancing why are the people bothered they can just look the other way unless there is bad intention in their mind.
