Mangalore: Inter-district cattle thieves arrested, modus operandi revealed

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore

Mangalore, Sep 25: Two days after locals protested against police failure in curbing cattle thefts, the Suratkal police on Tuesday September 24 arrested three inter-district cattle thieves from Jokatte here.

The arrested have been identified as Jokatte residents Sarfaraz alias Choppu (25), Nissar (22) and Sheik alias Ummar Farooq (27).

It is learnt that they committed thefts at Malnad region, coastal region, Sakleshpur, Hassan, Mudigere, Chikmagalur and others places.

Sources said that the accused have admitted to stealing cattle from the houses of Diwakar Shetty in Kuthetur and Baby in Krishnapur.

Modus operandi

The gang took to cattle thieving two years ago. It is said that altogether there are ten groups, each comprising four to five members and the arrested belong to one of these groups. They would roam in their Scorpio and other vehicles in the evenings and steal cattle found wandering on the way and from cowsheds in the rural areas. By 6 am the next morning, they would systematically transport the cattle to slaughterhouses and by 9 am the meat would reach market for sale, said the accused.

It is learnt that the accused used to transport six to seven cows in each vehicle. The cows were usually purchased by Shahzaan from Ullal slaughterhouse. The meat was also transported to Bantwal slaughterhouse.

It is also learnt that each person involved in the theft used to get atleast Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000. Likewise, a team used to transport cattle at least five times a week. Around 18 loads of cattle stolen were sent to Ullal on a daily basis, it is learnt.

In three years, the gang supplied around 4,000 stolen cows to slaughterhouses, the accused said.

Political support suspected

During investigation, the arrested persons revealed that they were supported by various political parties in their act and that they were actively involved in some or the other parties. In order to transport the cattle safely, they used to bribe a few people as well.

Goonda Act

As locals have urged police to book the arrested under Goonda Act, police said investigation will be undertaken in this regard.

The Suratkal police team arrested the accused under the guidance of police commissioner Manish Karbikar, deputy commissioner Dr Jagadish and ACP Ravikumar. The team consisted of Suratkal inspector M A Natarajan, Rajendra, Krishna, Vijayraj, Bharatraj, Puneeth, Safiullah.

The accused were produced in the court sent to judicial custody till October 3.

The police team has urged people’s support in catching the remaining thieves.

Well, if it is true that these are the people involved in cattle theft then they should be booked under goonda-act or whatever severe punishment. There should be no mercy. But, innocents should not be punished. Jai Bharath!

If cattle theft is dealt with iron hand, illegal slaughterhouses and cow slaughter shall die down automatically...Cattle theft is a crime and slaughtering a cow for food is not crime. But the beef trade is flourishing due to availability of cattles illegally..

This is another joke cracked by our police, fit to fool school children. Stealing 4000 cattle in a span of 3 years is virtually impossible. It is police's way of bringing unsolved cattle thefts to their logical end. But the police should remember that citizens are not as foolish as they are.

I am sure BJP and other anti-social outfits of sangh parivar like BD,SRS, HJV etc. had received huge kickbacks in this illegal cow slaughter racket. ( Most of these notorious organisations need huge money to run their organisation, the money for same should come from illegal means.) This suspicion arises bcz these rogues were actively operational since two years and had stolen more than 4,000 cows from various places. When BJP was in power, all sorts of illegal activities had taken place. Cattle theft also must be one among such illegal activities.

A government change at Vidhana Soudha ensured that real people behind these huge racket are caught. Police must expose double standards of anti-social parties in this case. Yesterday U.R.Ananthamurthy who belong to higher caste in hindu categorically said that ceturies ago, upper class hindus slaughtered cows n ate meat to appease gods and to celebrate victories. The think-tank of Sangh parivar must also be invovled in this racket. Transparent investigation will bring facts out. Grill these people and expose real patrons of this revenue generating activity.

Install 'PET-GPS' system in each cow.It is user friendly method.
Everybody can track their stolen or lost-way cows at any time.
Now GPS tracking system is available very competitive rate and it will become more cheaper when all people start to buy for their animals.
In many developed countries people adopted this tracking system in order to find their pets when lost.

Which means 4000 * 300 * 40 = Rs.4.8 Crore in 3 years.. Which degree will give you 5 Crore rupees in 3 yrs for working just 4 hours at night. Amazing..

You should be proud of yourselves to encourage such stealers and Butchers and eating such meat & then talk about what is good meat and what is not good meat according to religion after that BURP you released from your filled stomach. Encourage more of this so that we can live in communal harmony. Am sure many of them knew where was the source of the meat coming from but were salient and supporting them just for some cheap beef.
