God bless as sometimes the rickshaw drivers can be very demanding and annoying though generally one can rely on them for transportation

Thank you very much, and congratulations to you, Shriman Ivan D'Souza for your willingness and your initiatives to be the President of Mangalore Auto-rickshaw Organization. This is indeed an equally important assignment that requires leadership to motivate the rickshaw business which is in fact the backbone of mobility in and around Mangalore and elsewhere in India. Travelling by rickshaws is convenient and also economical. Thru the narrow lanes a rickshaw driver will find his pathway to move people from place to place.

During our last vacation to Mangalore we deliberately utilized the rickshaws for various daily chores and it was such a fine opportunity to meet so many kind and noble rickshaw drivers that drove us all across and gave us the valuable commentaries during our short and long journeys. Whether it was fish market or market, all the drivers waited patiently and gave us the helping hand to move from corner to corner and achieve our goals.

Rickshaw drivers possess their own discipline while driving. They are safe and they are cheerful. Once they know you, they know you and they salute you and smile at you when you meet them again. As we conversed with them on so many topics, they also helped us to polish our Kannada language, and at the end of the journey they became our friends. We discussed about our families, and we shared many topics that we would have never shared had we not utilized a rickshaw for our journey.

The cheerfulness gained during our short visits to India comes from small people on the roads, including the rickshaw drivers. They are friendly and they are casual. Once they met you, they know you for ever and they remember you and they make your journey comfortable. They take you faster, if needed, because they can sneak thru small lanes and thru congested streets. At the end of the journey they smiled and we smiled, and with a pleasant exchange of "Namaskhaar" we parted from each other. Thank you, Ivan, for being a leader.
