Udupi, Sep 28: In a tragic incident, a woman along with her toddler daughter allegedly attempted suicide by jumping into a well at Tenkanadiyur here on Saturday September 28. While the woman survived, the daughter and the woman's husband who also jumped in to save them lost his life.

The deceased have been identified as one-year-old Deeksha, and her father Chandrakant (35). The child's mother Nagaratna (31) is in a critical condition and admitted to Hitech hospital.

It is said that on Saturday morning, Nagaratna jumped into the well along with her daughter. Chandrakant, in a bid to save them, jumped in, but lost his life. The neighbours came to the rescue and Nagaratna was saved, while the others two persons died.

The reason for taking the extreme step is not yet known, but sources said that there were problems in the family.

The bodies were shifted to the mortuary in Ajjarkad hospital.

Malpe police have registered a case.

@M.W.Pereira,Uruguay,Excuse me if I dont agree with you. When one jumps in a well, there is no Need of only water to die.but the injuries that can also very much effect one such as fracture of vertebra and head injuries.same time ,can also without injuries one can survive. This I am telling with my experience from own Family member, who jumped in a deep well, who was sick(Psycho)but with help of neighbours tookout(she stood with help of a pump based bar). But here she must have had a very bad time at home with husband.otherwise she wouldnt jump with child.very tragic. Now nobody can be helped .IF she really survives ,cant say she will not do again thinking Baby and husband died.May the souls of the dead rest in peace.

Whatever the reason, it shows man's love and sacrifice for his family.

Let Nagarathna recover soon and thank God and her husband for saving her life and forget the past and look into the future and not to succumb to Satan’s call.

What a terrible tragedy. How can a mother jump into a well with one year old baby angel to commit suicide. She survived but her baby died and so did her husband who also jumped to save them. If you also die then that is the end of the family but if you live God will never forgive you. I do not know how you will face the world. God only help them RIP.

    Very sad news indeed!
RIP to the brave husband and the little angel.
I am a Navy man from the last 40 years. I am a certified deep sea diver.
The surviving wife will survive no matter what. Because, to die in the water, it takes exactly 3 minutes. If someone pulls you up in 3 Minutes and 40 seconds, then you have 99% chance of surviving! amazing - isn't it?
As per the popular belief, you cannot remove the water from your lungs due to an accident like this. Around 70-90% of her lungs will be filled with water and it is next to impossible to remove water from one's lungs. Hence her breathing will be short and laborious till the time she is alive.
She might survive around 10-15 years more before her lungs give away - which will be definite.
Whatever she did this for, she has enough time to ask the mercy of the GOD of her understanding - for killing an innocent darling.
I am not ready to forgive her - neither should you!
I m also sorry to be sentimental by reading about the death of an innocent angel.

Nobody knows what prompted her to take this extreme step. It is not appropriate to comment/blame anyone. Unless she felt life worst than death, she would not have done this. Sadly, now her life will be worst than that of her child and husband who left her for good. May God rest their soul in peace.

Suicide is a Crime. No one is rejoicing. Now the wife is responsible for the death of the child and her husband. So the law applies

In India due to intolerance and depression, many attempts suicide which is not a solution to any problem. Stupid lady Nagaratna, why would she take her child when she was going to commit suicide.
Rest in peace poor child & her father Chandrakant.
