Dr Ibtesam Al Bastaki talks on ‘Heroes of Healthcare’ at GMU

Ajman, Sep 30: Gulf Medical University, Ajman hosted Dr Ibtesam Al Bastaki, director of health operation at Dubai Health Authority (DHA), who delivered an inspirational lecture as part of Heroes of Healthcare Lecture Series on Sunday September 29.

The grand event was attended by Thumbay Moideen, the founder president and chairman, board of governors GMU, Akbar Moideen, director –operations healthcare and retail division, Professor Gita Ashok Raj, provost of GMU, special guest B Abdul Salam, CEO of BA Group, Thumbay-India, university deans and deans of constituent colleges, faculty and students of GMU.

Dr Ibtesam addressed over 250 students and faculty members of the university.She explained the importance of health and said, “Healthy people make wealthy nations”. She emphasized on the importance being given by the rulers of the country on health issues of the nation’s population. Dr Ibtesam encouraged the students to aim high and practice to be a part of the healthcare force to tackle and treat lifestyle diseases that plague the region today. She said that the healthcare services are on top priority of the Dubai Executive Council. “Good education and good healthcare services are our top priority and we are happy to complement the efforts of private sector in this regard,” she added while referring to the high quality healthcare education and services being offered by the GMU and GMC Hospitals.

Dr Ibtesam mentioned that she was highly impressed by the services being offered by GMC Hospitals and the university. She said that the services are being offered to meet the requirements of the population and wished that the Thumbay Group would expand their services in all parts of the country to meet the demand of good healthcare that is needed.

Later, Dr Ibtesam had an audience with Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al- Nuaimi, crown prince of Ajman. He presented a special certificate of achievement at his palace. Earlier, Thumbay Moideen in the presence of Professor Gita Ashok Raj presented a Heroes of Healthcare memento to Dr Ibtesam Al Bastaki.


About Dr Ibtesam Bastaki

Dr Ibtesam Bastaki is responsible for development, improvement of health performance at DHA. Her main role is to lead, advice and guide the best practices in terms of health strategy and health performance; aiming to achieve the Dubai Health Vision 2025.

Dr Ibtesam has worked for different health authorities within UAE. Her work experience started with Ministry of Health (MOH) and Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and she was heading the health strategy and performance at Prime Minister Office (PMO), UAE.

She has had the opportunity to be involved in several projects and fundraising projects within her capacity as the director of business development and projects at the Dubai Health Authority. Moreover, she has been working closely within her community in different health aspects to increase the awareness among the societies.

Dr Ibtesam Bastaki is a medical physician and has graduated from Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) in Ireland. In 2004, she gained her Arab Board in Family medicine and she has secured her Masters in Healthcare Administration from RCSI. In addition, she was enrolled in Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Leadership Program from 2007-2009.

Currently, she is a member at the governance council at the International Hospital Federation and she is also a member in the Governing Board of Dubai School of Dental Medicine.
