Mangalore, Sep 30: Stepping into its 70th year, Konkani Natak Sabha commemorated the special occasion with the presentation of ‘Ootre Uzwadle’ (Wake up, its dawn), a social comedy play in the decades-old Don Bosco Hall here on Sunday September 29.

Seventy years of hard work thru Konkany Natak Sabha has brought lot of pride and honor for the Konkany society of Mangalore.
The simple stage setting, the simple Sunday evening gatherings that we covered bare footed walks from Jeppoo are all memories that are precious and worth timely revival.

Fr. Cyprian D'Souza reminded us of late Fr.Philip Neri who was one of the Founder Members of Konkany Natak Sabha along with late Fr. George Albuquerque SJ. Along with these two pillars of Konkany Natak Sabha, famous actors such as late Simon and John Rasquinha, late M. P. D'Sa, late Victor D'Souza, late Louie Netto and many others have dedicated a great deal for this Dramatic group that has survived for seventy glorious years.

We were there seventy years ago, and hope and pray that we shall be there for the 75th Anniversary, if God is willing, if somebody cares to inform us. All these memorable occasions need be publicized early thru the web site, so that we can always plan our vacations to Mangalore to suit with these nice gatherings. This is one way to show our love towards Mangalore and also meet some of the familiar faces that we would not have a chance to meet during our short trips each year. Seventy years ago we did not have any web site. All that we had was a Weekly Rakno newspaper published by the Diocese of Mangalore. The Konkany concerts were announced each Sunday morning after mass where there was an old car waiting outside the church with fitted microphones announcing the timing and ticket rating of the concerts.

Thank you, Konkany Natak Sabha, for all that you have contributed to our society with your talents and your talented people. You have entertained us, and you have given us the identity of who we are and where we have come from.
