Mandya: Recent wins in Karnataka show people's trust in Congress - Sonia Gandhi

Daijiworld Media Network - Mandya

Mandya, Sep 30: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi on Monday September 30 arrived here at Sir M Visvesvaraya stadium to a large gathering of Congress leaders, party workers, supporters and public and thanked the people for supporting the Congress in the last Assembly elections as well as the recent by-polls in Mandya and Bangalore Rural.

Beginning her address with a greeting in Kannada, much to the delight of the massive crowd, Sonia Gandhi said, "The last time I had come here, before the state Assembly elections, I had requested the people to support Congress and help it regain power in the state. I thank all Congress party workers, and all men and women of this state for electing Congress. It shows your trust in Congress."

She also said that by choosing Congress over JD(S) in the recent Lok Sabha by-polls in Mandya and Bangalore Rural, the people had revived Congress in these two districts where JD(S) had a stronghold.

Emphasizing that the state Congress government will deliver all its promises made in the manifesto, Sonia Gandhi said that Congress always does what it promises, and the schemes launched in the state in the recent months prove it.

Showering praises on chief minister Siddaramaiah, she said, "Siddaramaiah has struggled a lot for the sake of the people. He has launched schemes like Anna Bhagya and Ksheera Bhagya, which have made the entire country proud of Karnataka."

She also praised S M Krishna and said that he had made Bangalore famous world over with the IT revolution.

She also stressed that the farmers are the priority for Congress, and will always remain so. "The land acquisition bill which protects the farmers itself proves that Congress gives priority to the welfare of farmers. The food bill will ensure that no one goes hungry," she said.

"We are proud of our farmers and farmers will always be the centre of our policies," she added.

'Entire Congress backing Dr Manmohan Singh'

Urging people to once again vote for Congress in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, she came out in strong defence of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and said that the entire Congress party is with the PM.

"They (BJP) make fun of the party and the Prime Minister. I want to tell them that the whole party stands behind the Prime Minister. Under his leadership, the government has made all these achievements," she said.

Lambasting the opposition BJP, she declared, "We are not afraid of anyone. We are not afraid of the opposition. We will make sincere efforts to work for the people of Karnataka and people of the whole country."

Gandhi said the Bharatiya Janata Party "divides people" while "we bind the people together".

She said the BJP tried to scuttle the "historic" food security bill in parliament by saying it was against farmers.

Terming the food security bill, land acquisition bill, RTI and measures to protect interests of women as "historic", Gandhi said "no other government has achieved what the UPA (United Progressive Alliance government) has been able to in the last ten years".

She questioned why the BJP did not bring these bills when it led the central government or was in power in Karnataka. The BJP lost to the Congress in the May assembly election.

"They do not care for you," Gandhi told the rally.

"The Congress follows the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, and its history had great leaders like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi," she added.

CM Siddaramaiah said that Sonia Gandhi's purpose of visiting the state was to thank the people of Karnataka and especially Mandya for choosing Congress. "The people of Mandya have blessed Ramya, and so also people of Bangalore Rural," he said.

He also said that Congress government had improved the condition of women, minorities and physically challenged people, which had dwindled during the BJP government's regime.

Urging the people to bless Congress once again in the forthcoming elections, he said that his government will strive to make Karnataka the number one state in the country in the next five years.

KPCC chief Dr Parameshwar welcomed the gathering.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara, former Karnataka chief minister S M Krishna, who hails from Mandya, union ministers Mallikarjun Kharge, M Veerappa Moily, Oscar Fernandes, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh, popular Kannada actor and state minister M H Ambareesh, who also belongs to Mandya, and newly elected Lok Sabha members popular Kannada film actor Ramya from Mandya and D K Suresh from Bangalore Rural shared the dais with Gandhi.

Meanwhile, there was some chaos at the venue when members of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti showed black flags to Sonia Gandhi and were reportedly beaten up by the police.

Dear Mr. Mohan H Naik, Mangaluru,

    Your question is appreciable.

In accepting the faith of Jesus Christ or rejecting the faith of Jesus Christ there is freedom. Choice is to an individual.

THE NAME OF A PERSON IS ONLY TO IDENTIFY A PERSON AND ANYBODY CAN CHANGE THE NAME OR KEEP THE SAME NAME. MANY CHRISTIANS HAVE HINDU NAMES AND THERE ARE MUSLIMS CONVERTED TO CHRISTIANS THEY HAVE ALSO MUSLIM NAME.

Name of a person is only to identify or to call a person. Once a girl is married they will have husbands sur-name that's all.

Like film stars, few people get carried away to his feku developmental promises and the rest of the crowds are paid people organised by the Sangh Parivar.
We want the world recognised leaders to rule the biggest democracy in the world like India and not a hardcore right wing feku like Modi whose main object is to divide and rule.

Bhaskar Acharya, Shirva, I fully agree with your comments. Congress can not dream to come to power only with minority & S/C votes. The beauty of our country is that, there are number of Hindus who are well educated and peace loving who always support Congress and wish to walk along with people of all religion. Unless there is peaceful co-existence, we can not prosper and educated Hindus are well aware of it. Recent election in Karnataka is a proof of it. Only a minimum number of illiterate Hindus blindly support BJP. This will again be proved in 2014. Let us strive for united & peaceful India to march towards prosperity. Jai Hind.

JD-S candidates were rejected by voters of Mandya and Bangalore Rural. BJP never had a suitable candidate to field ( unholy alliance with Kumaranna). BJP has dig its grave bcz of its grave mistakes. Kingdom of Bellary is classic example where a King called Reddy from BJP didnt bothered about people of Bellary. He fed them with dust, supplied polluted air for breathing, and he looted Bellary to live lavish life in Castle n Helicopters. His support staff are counted among multi-billion dollar lords.

BJP's only hope - Modi, is leader from Majority community, he has his training in RSS, and he has terrorized minorities. He preached same lessons to Yeddy too and Yeddi did ditto copy-cat in Karnataka. What is the guarantee that Muslims, Christians, Dalits will be safe if Modi is PM ? Can we take risk with Modi ? Modi is strong leader with determined decision making power. What if he goes against Minorities after becoming PM ?

Some ask me why people vote for corrupt congi despite BJP offering a alternative governance based on right-wing progressive ideology? Congress is a big ocean having a long history, where there are lot of corrupt, criminal, dynastic rulers. Congress also has vibrant, dynamic, honest leaders. There is more filth in it, so also there is more good in congress just like a ocean. There are all sorts of people, there is chance for all kind of possibilities to emerge, good and bad co-exist, social justice with representation to brahman, dalit, muslim, christian etc. BJP hasnt proven to be better than COngress, and hence people still dont have a strong alternative. Any party that imbibes n practices spirit of Indian constitution is acceptable to atheists, theists, rationals, poor, downtrodden, rich, etc. Congress still continues to be the best bet despite huge scandals.

YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday praised Narendra Modi for his administrative skills, but added that he wished the BJP prime ministerial candidate could practice secular, all-inclusive politics.

Given that these are his first comments since being released on bail last week after spending 16 months in jail in connection with a corruption case, the praise for Modi might unnerve Congress leaders who are hopeful of forging a post-poll alliance with Jagan.

People of AP already realized the nexus between Congress and YP, through which Jagan suddenly got bail with CBI hurriedly in a span of 5 days giving Jagan a clean chit in 8 cases, though 10 charge sheets are already on. There is a silent majority of middle class especially in Coastal Andhra region, that is burning with anger about the corruption by Jagan and Congress at the Centre, and if Naidu plays his cards right and aligns with BJP, both Naidu and BJP can benefit tremendously by bringing the middle class to step out and vote, which they never do. Some of the gullible poor Dalits (mostly xtians) bought out by the promise of freebies - free paid-engineering-seats by govt, free power for poor, free food for poor may vote for YP instead of Congress this time, but the silent majority of middle class will definitely vote for Modi and CBN.

As the BJP prime ministerial candidate heard out their assessment of the party’s prospects, Modi finally spelt out his key message. “No matter what it takes,” he said, party workers in the south should work hard to take advantage of a national climate favourable to the BJP. The focus on southern states could help the party make up for “deficits” in the north, and help carry the day.For a Hindi-speaking BJP, the south has always been a big challenge. Atal Bihari Vajpayee came closest to cracking the problem because he held some appeal for educated middle class non-Hindi speakers.

What is causing eyebrows to be raised this time round is a recent survey by Tamil magazine Junior Vikatan. It said a clear majority (53%) of Tamil Nadu voters felt Modi was best suited to be PM, with chief minister Jayalalithaa, Rahul Gandhi and PM Manmohan Singh trailing far behind. It published the findings in a cover story titled “Shock result!”

BJP insiders say Modi may meet the Tamil Nadu CM soon for a “friendly” fight to ensure the BJP wins at least four seats.

Karnataka, the one state considered a strong base of the BJP among southern states until 2010, is still likely to be its best bet. Despite the fear of the CBI gunning for him, BS Yeddyurappa is trying to work with Modi.

Yet the BJP cannot hope to retain all of the 19 (out of 28) seats in
    Karnataka it got in 2009.

In April, Modi made his Kerala foray, attending a function at Sivagiri Mutt, creating a flutter in the state dominated by minorities and leftists. The BJP’s calculation is it should try for two of the 21 seats, at least.

In Andhra Pradesh, the BJP won seven Lok Sabha seats in 1999 in an alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), a regional player which got 29. But the two split in 2004. A much weakened TDP is ready to tie the knot with the BJP again to ride on the Modi wave in coastal areas.

UNPRECEDENTED “”MODI WAVE”” OBSERVED IN THE ENTIRE SOUTH INDIA.
    ==============================================================
    · Huge Modi wave in the entire Andhra – coupled with an alliance with TDP is set to sweep ALL the Loksabha seats in the entire Andhra & Telengana regions.
    · It is now observed the so called SECULAR PARTIES are trying to open negotiations for an alliance with BJP

Ø The MODI WAVE in Tamil Nadu is comparable to the MGR wave in the 70s & 80s.
Ø In Tamilnadu too, secret parleys by different DRAVIDIAN PARTIES are in progress for a TIE UP with BJP
Ø With or Without alliance, BJP is set to snatch at least 30 Loksabha seats.

§ Karnataka has already seen a TIE UP with KJP & BJP.
§ If the VOTING PATTERN during the last assembly election is considered, the summation of KJP & BJP votes – would have seen the BJP’s return of power.
§ Even if the same VOTING PATTERN is repeated {without considering the Modi Wave} BJP is set to steal 18 to 20 seats in Karnataka.

Congratulations Mrs Sonia Gandhi on impressive Victory of Congress In Karnataka assembly election and Mandy & Rural Bengaluru Lok sabha by- election.

Your Congress Party won the assembly election because of very bad governance of BJP in Karnataka and Mr. Yedurappa walking away from BJP, which split the votes helping your Congress to win 122 seats. Oher wise it would have been hung assembly, Congress as single largest party.

Congress will win all the 28 lok sabha seats in Karnataka, or 27 seats, leaving 1 seats for Mr. Deve Gowda of JD(S) in Hassan. BJP will go blank and loose miserably, unless it gets its act together and brings back Mr. Yedurappa and Sreeramulu and shows unity, with Modi wave it might win 8 to 10 seats, other wise no chance.

But Mrs Sonia Gandhi, your congress led UPA will loose miserably in rest of India in 2014 lok sabha election, your govt's bad Governance, scams, and using CBI for your party and govt's benefit will be the cause for such defeat, "writing is on the Wall" nice and clear, UPA days are numbered, all trend, surveys and public opinion clearly shows this, Mr. Modi wave will sweep every were except karnataka, history repeats it self, whenever Congress rules Karnataka, opposition rules Centre.

    Jai Hind, Jai Karnataka.

How decently the Rally was held with such beautiful crowd, well behaved and they were all ears to listen intently to the civilized way of speeches made by each and every one.

It was so different from those earlier rallies held by BJP where an atmosphere of goondaism was prevailing, lot of hatred and venom vomited by disgracing various dignitaries and not a word of how the projected PM candidate would go about doing good to the nation..

Facts have been presented by Congress spokespersons, people were informed future development strategy and also thanked people for their timely co-operation for bringing them back to power and requesting them to continue supporting the party in the near future too.
There were no allegation against other party\members, there was no bad mouthing of any one of any other party members.

Everything as civilized as Congress always is.

I hope other party members learn from Congress how to behave, how to talk in public as civilized politicians...

The INC can only redeem itself when it puts an end to nepotism, and starts promoting people who have worked for the party at the grassroot level. How many of those who break their backs for the sake of party ever get a chance to fight elections ? These are the folks who truly understand the sufferings and needs of the people of their constituencies, and not some movie stars who have never done any administrative nor political activism get ed on ready tickets!

The same goes at the national level. Arent there enough intelligent, well articulate people in Congress who have grown from grassroot level and can lead the party ? Why rely on a family that purposefully misspells its last name ( from "Gandhy" to "Gandhi" ) for the sake of political clout.

Only Congress can be identified as only party acceptable to all types of faith and regions. The pity is there is no alternative to congress. Those who have given a chance to BJP once have regretted it.
