Udupi, Oct 1: In a noteworthy gesture, SVP Foundation, Udupi, has initiated an educational support programme which provides financial help to about 100 students. A budget of Rs 5,25,000 has been set aside and this is the first time the members have requested financial support from the public.

‘Team SVPF’ has already contributed a sum of Rs 1,05,000 towards this cause.

The association has received nearly 380 applications. The applicants have been scrutinized and verified for genuiness over a period of  three months in different categories from primary school to post graduation studies.

SVP is an organization which has been working for the less fortunate sections of society. A number of annual programmes and funds have been set up in order to support the cause.

The foundation was established a decade ago and later on August 22, 2009, it was registered as an NGO and was slowly made known to the society.

Health camps for rural women have also been held at Goretti Hospital, Kallianpur.  Every year leadership seminars and educational programmes are conducted in various schools and  study chairs are provided to poor students to promote education.

National festivals as well as birthdays of members in ‘Spandana’ home for mentally challenged people are celebrated by providing sumptuous lunch to inmates on these days.

A home for senior citizens is a dream project lined up by the team along with an orphanage for children regardless of community .
