Cooking gas cylinder to be sold at petrol pumps

New Delhi, Oct 2 (IANS):
Cooking gas cylinders will soon be sold at market rates at selected petrol pumps across the country.

Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily will formally launch sales and an LPG portability scheme at a function in Bangalore on Saturay, an official statement said Wednesday.

Initially, 5 kg cylinders of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) will be sold at the petrol stations of the government-run oil marketing firms.

“The first initiative allows sale of 5 kg LPG cylinders at market price with minimal paperwork through company owned retail outlets,” oil ministry said in a statement.

“This will be a boon to migratory population such as students, IT professionals, BPO employees and persons with odd duty timings as it would provide them the flexibility to pick up cylinders and obtain subsequent refills at time of their choice as Petrol Stations are open for longer hours,” it said.

The scheme will be launched in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore on a pilot basis through select retail outlets.

The government also plan to introduce LPG Portability Scheme, under which a consumer can opt for the distributor of his choice within a cluster of LPG distributors in the vicinity and across the oil companies.

“The consumers will be able to see the service ratings of all the distributors in their cluster and choose the one they want based on service levels,” the oil ministry statement said.

I do not understand why there is a ristriction for buying gas cylinders. There should be 2 schemes. One for households who are under certain family income slab to whom the subsidized gas cylinders to be provided against ration card from ration shops.

The second catogory for people who are above aforementioned slab and can buy unsubsidized gas cylinders from where ever and from which ever location they would like to buy. Why do we have such issue for gas cylinders. Govt. should be concerned about the poor that they get subsidized gas where as they should be comfortable with the gas companies selling in the principal of Par Price Profit Tax (Gross Price).

I know many oppose my opinion as these people belong to middle and rich classes and declaring themself as poor and obtaining ration cards take awy the what is ment for the poor.

Good Work by Moily. We need to appreciate this. Good thinking.

    Moily Saab,

You were present at Yeshwantpur Railway Station on Saturday when Kharge inaugurated Mangalore train via AP, TN and KL. Did not you feel embarrassed to see the train to your hometown running thru 3 other states? Do something for your motherland boss. You have only 7 months left as a minister. I don't think you will politically survive after that. Make mangalore people feel proud about YOU, like Goerge Fernandis.

Bollu, If you are hinting about Gas cylinders stored in petrol pumps could cause explosion because of 2 components i.e Gas as well as Petrol in one single location...then why not have a fire brigade travel with each gas cylinder transporting truck? Right?

It's not fire brigade required in Petrol station...it's you who requires serious medical attention )

Rightly said by Jessy. But these days Gas cylinders are not sold over in Groceries in Abu Dhabi. There's a door delivery truck and the other option is a petrol bunk.
