Karnataka govt to release Rs 150 crore for rail projects

Bangalore, Oct 3 (PTI): The Karnataka government will release Rs 150 crore this month for railway projects in the state being taken up with the Ministry of Railways on a cost-sharing basis, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said today.

A sum of Rs 100 crore has already been released in this regard, and Rs 150 crore would be pumped in this month, the Chief Minister said after a meeting with senior Railway officials.

"The remaining amount, including additionalities, would be released this year," Siddarmaiah said.

In addition to the Rs 350 crore Budget provision made by the Karnataka government for the projects, the state would have to provide another Rs 200 crore as its share as Union Railway Minister M Mallikarjuna Kharge, who hails from the State, had announced additional funding for such projects in Karnataka, the Chief Minister said.

Minister of State for Infrastructure Development Santosh Lad said Karnataka would give within a week a list of projects to the Railways that needed to be taken up on a priority basis.

State officials said the government has taken proactive steps to speed up land acquisition, including invoking emergency clause, and 2500 acres was acquired and handed over to the Railways in the last three years.

The state government urged the Railways to focus on completing and operationalising ongoing projects that are nearing completion such as Kolar-Chikkaballapura gauge conversion, Kadur-Chikmagalur and Kottur-Harihara lines.

State officials expressed concern that the burden of cost-sharing is high and uncertain. While initial approval for projects is based on line estimates, their cost gets escalated, they said.

They also pointed out that the fund requirement for already committed projects is around Rs 10,000 crore in addition to land acquisition cost.

"Hence, Railways should encourage public-private-partnership when PPP policy has been announced," officials said.

According to officials, there are 27 Railway projects in Karnataka having a total length of 2876 km and anticipated cost of Rs 22,400 crore. There are 16 projects which are being cost shared by Government of Karnataka.

Great news for Karnataka and let us be very positive in making our State railway friendly. Siddaramaiah meant progress for karnataka as well we have sincere Union Railways Minister Mr. Kharge to support and implement the scheme. It is the desire of the people of Karnataka to have excellent railway net work and road infrastructure in the entire State as this will enable us to excel in state economy with a greater fiscal growth. Hopefully Karnataka bound to see a daring change in over all development as Congress and Visionary Siddaramaiah cabinet see the achievement through. My inner feeling and strongly predict SIDDU will reign Karnataka at least for THREE full tenure.(Three terms as CM). 'Jai Ho Karnataka'.

The Indian Railways have added only about 2500 kms of new lines since Independence.

On the Trivandrum - Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express ( Via Mangalore ) the catering staff demand tips. They know exactly as to where you are going to get off and they come. It is to be known that this is illegal and controlled by the North Indian Railway catering Mafia. Please do not encourage this DEMAND of theirs. The Railway authorities too look the other way.

Immediately release funds for Survey of Chikmagalur-Mudigere-Charmadi-Dharmasthala Route and also Dharmasthala-Karkala-Udupi route.
Railway line upto Chickmagalur from Bangalore is fully ready and start functioning within two months.
If karnataka Govt acquires only 70 kilometre Land between Nelamangala & Kunigal the Bangalore Hassan Shortest route can be completed within next six months as this land is very flat and by next year Mangalore Bangalore will be just 8 hours journey through this new route.

Very Very Powerful people are owning Stud farm in this route between Shravan Belagola and Kunigal. Some of them are Politicians-cum-liquor barons who have influence even in Delhi. So acquisition of this stretch of land is very difficult as this proposed line passes exactly in the middle of their vast Horse farm. For these selfish wealthy people Race Horses are more important than the human beings. Such people brag about Patriotism and sword of Tippu Sultan in their public speeches.

    Friends,

One more good news is that Mangalore may soon be connected with Hubli. A special train was run between MAQ and UBL on 29th September via Sakleshpur, Hassan, Kadur and Davanagere. Train departed 3:30 PM from central and reached Hubli next day morning 3 AM.

Kharge is doing very good job. I hope soon he will give one more Karwar-Bangalore superfast train via arasikere.
