Kuwait: Tulu Koota World Tulu Convention contests witness keen participation

Kuwait, Oct 3: Tulu Koota Kuwait (TKK) World Tulu Convention competitions were held recently at the Indian Community School, Khaitan with great enthusiasm and excitement. There were lots games for children and adults alike.

The programme started with a warm welcome, and welcome prayer by the Suresh Salian. The programme kick started with words of inspiration from Ramesh Kidiyoor, the president of Tulu Koota Kuwait and the lighting of the lamp by the members of the management committee, advisors and programme coordinator.

The highlight of the competition was “My Baby, My Beautiful World” contest on Facebook which went online since September 7. The number of likes would be counted as number of votes and the photo earning maximum number of likes would be declared as the winner. The winner of the contest, baby Jeshna Shetty won with a whopping 14,029 votes, the first runner-up was Aarav Shetty and the second runner-up was baby Ira Suvarna.

The children excelled in various fields. Children of age 2-4 were allowed to display any talent they like in the Little Star contest and kids of 4-6 were asked to show off different occupations from Tulunadu. The colouring and drawing competition for the children went on very while for children aged 4-6 and 6-9 respectively. The children from 6-9 also excelled in solo dance performances, while children from 9-12 age group participated in memory test and group dance.

The adults showed off their idli eating and sweet potato eating skills and also participated in 'Bajil da Tuluverna Thindi' contest and prepared varieties of dishes out of pova (Bajil). Mask making competition was open to all and anyone could take part even if they were not valid members of the association. The artistes displayed their talents in creating masks. Also, for the first time in the competition history, Tulu Koota Kuwait hosted an inter association group folk dance contest, which made the crowds go berserk. Fancy dress, open to all age groups, was a treat to the eye.

“TKK Biggest Loser” contest results were also announced, The first prize – male was bagged by Alwyn, while Chandrahas Shetty stood second. The first prize - female was won by Bhargavi Nagendra, while Shalini Alva took the second prize. Their weight was recorded for the first time during the Rasamangari 2013 and they were given 3 months to reduce their weight.

The whole programme was conducted very efficiently by Shobha Bhandary, Lionel Mascarenhas and Sushma Bangera, while the competition was well coordinated by Swarna Shetty. Tasty Mangalorean food was served by Banana Leaf Restaurant, photography was done by Prashanth Shetty and sound and light were by Anand - Illumination . The event concluded with the prize distribution, vote of thanks by the general secretary, Wilson D’Souza and by singing the National Anthem.
