Bantwal, Oct 4: An egg shop in Raaja Road, BC Road accidentally caught fire on Thursday October 3.

The shop belongs to Ravindra Shenoy.

On Thursday night, Ravindra lit the lamp in front of god’s portrait of his shop and then downed the shutters and went home. After sometime locals noticed thick smoke billowing out of the shop. They broke open the door and immediately informed fire brigade.

The fire brigade personnel arrived on the spot and doused the fire. It is suspected that the lighted lamp must have fallen over the hay placed over the eggs and caused fire.

On receiving the information, Bantwal circle inspector Rajashekar Misthri and city police arrived at the spot. Large number of people gathered. No harm has been caused to the neighboring shops. The total loss is yet to be estimated.
