Bantwal: No syringe in hospital - Patient sent back by nurse

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (EP)

Bantwal, Oct 4: In an incident that brought to light the poor state of affairs in some of the government hospitals, a nurse reportedly sent back a patient who needed an injection as there was no syringe available in the hospital!

Not only was he sent back, the nurse even asked him to get a syringe from outside.

The incident is said to have occurred on Thursday, October 3 at the government hospital at Bantwal. The patient then contacted the minister of health U T Khadar through his relatives and brought the matter to his notice.

Minister U T Khadar contacted the district medical officer immediately and asked him the reason for scarcity of syringes when several crores of rupees are being spent on healthcare by his department.

As per the district medical officer's instructions, the taluk medical officials immediately went to the hospital and arranged for syringes.

Khadar said that making patients wander like this is uncalled for. A memo has been issued to conduct an enquiry against the nurse, he said.

He added that an enquiry led by district health official into the incident of death of pregnant woman and child in BC Road private hospital is in progress. Future course of action will be decided after the outcome of the enquiry, he added.

what a shame to say no Syringe in Hospital. The Minister should have gone personally instead of calling someone and asked for a injection to give They would have sure had one for him.The Nurse is responsible for and to give injection and Report and see that important things are there. This poor Situation in Govt.hospital is not from today since years it is going.only when you pay some rupees then Comes out the needed instruments. No wonder People go to private hospitals .

A inquiry/investigation is the best solution to the subject and to see where is the exact mis-handling point !!! Sometime within or sometime from the govt officers itself!!!. Good work from the patient reporting.

Why is the Nurse made a scape goat for the mistakes of higher officials. What else can she do if there is not even a single syringe. If the government has spent money on equipment then where has the money gone? Time to get get to the bottom of this problem.

Why Nurse has to undergo investigation? What DMO and TMO is doing?Let them face the inquiry and get punishment. If nurse purposely makes artificial scarcity the she has to face the music. I heared from different sources that Health Minister takes serious of any health related issue over the phone!!!If so, it is unprecedented and duty conscious...UT Khader well done....
