Mumbai, March 9: Abhishekh Tiwari, a standard eight student of Guru Nanak School, Sion, died on Wednesday afternoon after he was allegedly beaten up by his drawing teacher Rupesh Atsham for reporting late for exams.

Tiwari’s family, which stays at Indira Nagar near Antop Hill, said the child died due to injuries sustained in school and not due to a dog bite, as reported in the death certificate issued by the hospital. The police, however, could not ascertain the allegations and are awaiting the postmortem report.

Police sources claimed that the victim might have suffered a dog bite two months ago. The school reportedly claimed that Tiwari was a naughty child who had been asked to climb two floors on his knees as punishment. The boy’s family and neighbours refute these allegations.

“Abhishekh was never bitten by a dog. He succumbed to injuries that he sustained in school. We are  waiting for the postmortem report to confirm this fact,” said the victim’s neighbour Akhilesh Misra.
