cigaretts is not a banned items. It appear the news is not about the cigarette but about the particular place from where this people came.and from the comments and view it appear that some people want to use the news to give bad name to a particular section of the people or region. if the cigrettes is conficicated the govt. will sell it and earn money so why there is hue and cry.

@Peace Lover, India: For your kind information in Saudi Arabia Islamic scholars have given fatwa declaring smoking as Haram based on the following two verses from the holy Quran: 1. Sura No. 7 (Al Araf) - verse No. 157 wherein unclean things have been forbidden. And also in Sura No. 17 (Al Isra) verse No. 26 & 27 Allah says squanderers are brothers of satans, and the Satan will not enter the Paradise.

All persons from Kasargode are not smugglers.
But all smugglers are from Kasargode! Thus they make crores of ill gotten wealth.
No wonder that almost 90% of all the posh flats and bungalows built in and around Mangalore are bought by the people from Kasargode!
Also most of them own posh cars! You go to nay jewelers, you will find these people buying gold as if buying chana dal!Same story at any high end nursing home.

Air India Express generate revenue from Kasaragod people as well. Many Mangaloreans are now opted for other airlines. If there is airport for Kerala people which is in Kasaragod I dont thing they will every come into Mlore airport. Therefore, thank those passengers who helps to run AIE...
We need to be open minded as none of us owning any airports by regional people.

    Dear Mr. Amin,
Have you ever played Rugby?. In Rugby, you run with a football and when your opponent tries to tackle you, you pass a "Dummy". He thinks you have passed the ball to your team mate and will tackle him. However, the ball is safe with you.
What I mean to say is that, a team of smugglers must have arrived with many Kilo's of gold. The guy with the cigarette is only a "Dummy"! When the custom officials are busy booking the guy with the cigarettes, rest all of the gold smugglers passed through safely! This is a carefully planned team work.
Think about it. My logic makes good sense.

You Are right Kudlathe king. Its a team work. All who are involved in smuggling activities thinking about money, they dont bother family, friends, relatives,or religion. This kind of people must be punished, but the sad thing is as you said like a rugby team, its a team work. who knows even it might including customs officers or govt hands joined to pass the ball. they might seized those items while they allowed other smuggling without anyone knowledge!!.So evryones attention on Cigerette.

    Dear Iftikhar, mangalore
Islamic scholars have historically had mixed views about tobacco, and until recently, there has not been a clear, unanimous fatwa to allow or forbid cigarette smoking. Hence we cannot call smoking as Haram.

Unfortunately, air india express started its operation from mangalore considering only the kerala clients.instead of protest please wait once the Kannur airport starts functioning , airinida including emirates and ethihad will fly from there and for us will be an opportunity to fly by business class or whatever you wish from there, and will protest to close mangalore airport then. it makes sense, is it not?

    Naeem,

Looks like you read news only around South Kanara and Karnataka. Let your reading habit expand further on the amount of crimes and illegal activities taking place in other states of the country.

What the catches we read about at IXE airport are nothing comparing to the scams and corruptions prevailed day in and day out in our country.

By the way, you can not ask for barring the usage of airport by people of a certain region.

    Grow up man......

FYI: The cigarettes shown in the photo are GUDANG GARAM which are made in Indonesia and other far eastern counties.
No one in and around Mangalore smoke then. The cigarettes are mainly made out of cloves and a bit of tobacco.
Then who is going to smoke this huge amount of cigarettes?
I think they are filled with hashish or some other narcotic substance.
