Daijiworld Media Network - Doha

Doha, Oct 7: Karnataka Sangha Qatar’s (KSQ) first ever Miss KSQ Beauty Pageant contest and Sudha Baragur’s standup comedy thrilled a crowd of more than 500 on Friday October 4 evening at the premises of Al Maha Boys Academy in Qatar. The event was the concluding part of the “Vanita Pratibha Sambrama - 2013', a talent search held for the ladies by Karnataka Sangha Qatar, a premier association here led by the dynamic and multi-talented president Deepak Shetty and his committee.

The talent search was mainly conducted to bring out the hidden talents of ladies hailing from Karnataka and residing in Qatar.  The first part of the event which was held on September 27 received huge response. Competitions like rangoli free hand, water paint, tea time snacks, sweets cooking, fruits and vegetables carving, best out of waste, mehndi art gave the ladies a good opportunity to exhibit their talents.

The evening of October 4 started off with an introduction of the host of the evening Padma Sasanur by ladies advisor Shilpa Mannangi. President Deepak Shetty welcomed the gathering, followed with the lighting of the lamp by president Deepak Shetty, vice-president Nageshwar Rao, joint secretary Sunil Kamalaksha, ladies coordinator Shubha Murali, Shilpa Mannangi, Akshaya Shetty and chief guest of the evening Sudha Baragur.

Standup comedy by Sudha Baragur enthralled the audience. She took over the stage saying a typical teacher never lets go of an opportunity to use the mike, alluding to her own career as a lecturer in economics. Sudha picked up incidents from everyday happenings, garnished it with her distinct sense of humour and presented it to the audience who lapped it up and asked for more. With her characteristic boldness, Sudha is the first woman in Karnataka to have stepped into the world of standup comedy which has always been a male bastion. She has conducted more than 1,500 humour shows and has earned the title of 'Comedy Queen'. Sudha kept the audience reeling with laughter as she narrated one incident after another.

Parthana Shetty, Suchtra Kudari, Pushpa Rao, Akshaya Shetty and Manju Madhu Shetty entertained the audience with lively hindi numbers.

The highlight of the evening was the Miss KSQ Beauty Pageant. There were 3 rounds of performances, “Sampradayeka Udduge”, “Spring Collections” and “Question-answer round”.  All contestants with their lovely attires, catwalks and smiles won the hearts of the crowd and kept the evening going as they presented themselves on the ramp with confidence and style.

A panel of four renowned judges from various fields judged the beauty pageant - Chatura Poojari, a media professional, Emna Hedi, a fashion stylist, Reena Castelino, finance professional and a cultural personality and Sakala Appachu Debras, participant of Femina Miss India 1991.
