Mangalore: Ban order on liquor during Dasara

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (EP)

Mangalore, Oct 8: The District Magistrate, Mangalore has sent a circular ordering closure of liquor shops and bars during certain days of the Dasara festival.  A summary of the order is as follows:

As religious and cultural programmes will be conducted between 05-10-2013 to 18-10-2013 and Sri Sharada Devi’s idol immersion procession will be held, the police officials have requested for order of closure of liquor shops on certain days specified against the names in the list.

The measures are precautionary to avoid unpleasant behavior from antisocial elements and criminals after consuming alcoholic drinks.

I have examined the report of the police commissioner and the excise commissioner in this regard.

I, N Prakash, IAS, District Magistrate, Dakshina Kannada, have exercised my rights under excise law 1965 section 21(1) and have directed to close bar and restaurants, wine shops and liquor sale centers on and till the dates and time shown against their names in the attached list.

The order should be strictly enforced and the excise department will seal both the front and back doors of such wine shops and bar and restaurants during the days and time they are forbidden to function.
