Mangalore: 3 caught for looting Mumbai merchants, valuables worth Rs 7.65 lac seized

Mangalore, Oct 9: Barke police on Tuesday October 8 arrested three persons for looting gold jewellery from two merchants from Mumbai.

The arrested are identified as Anil Kumar Sharma (38) from Uttar Pradesh, Vijesh Kumar alias Vijju (25) from Jeppu and Richmond alias Richie (27) from Vamanjoor. Police have recovered valuables worth Rs 7.65 lac from them.

North police station inspector Cheluvaraj B along with PSI Mohammed Sharif and other officials recovered 4 kg 335 grams of silver jewellery, 12 carat gold jewellery weighing 177 grams, earrings, Rs 1.15 lac in cash and other valuables, altogether worth Rs 7.65 lac. A Swift car and a Pulsar bike used by thieves were also seized by the police.

Narayanlal Kamavat and Mangilal Kamavat had purchased silver and gold jewellery from Mumbai and had sold a part of it in Bijapur and rest had they planned to sell it in the city, for which they arrived here on September 29 and got in touch with the accused Anil Sharma.

As planned, the merchants were travelling in a car driven by Vijesh Kumar. Richmond followed the car. While in the car, Anil Sharma started smoking, and Vijesh Kumar objected. Anil then asked Vijesh to stop the car and got down on the pretext of finishing his smoke, while the others waited in the car. Vijesh then told the merchants that the car wouldn't start, and asked them to get down and push.
When the duo started pushing the car, Vijesh Kumar started the engine and sped away, taking with him all the valuables which were in the car.

In this regard, Narayanlal had filed a complaint with Barke police on October 6.

Acting on the complaint, police arrested Anil Sharma within 48 hours and the entire incident came to light during interrogation. The police caught him while he was on his way to Delhi to sell the stolen jewellery.

It is learnt that the thieves had plotted the scheme to loot six months back. It was Anil Sharma who got in touch with the merchants and brought them to Mangalore.

PSI Mohammed Sharif, police officials Shekar Gatti, Balakrishna, Pradeep Kumar Rai, Isacc, Vindo, Dinesh Shetty, Sunil Kumar, Chandrashekar, Maya Prabhu were part of the investigation team.
