Mangalore, Oct 9: Five persons who were allegedly transporting cattle illegally were on Wednesday October 9 caught by the locals and beaten up. The incident occured near Kudupu Temple.

It is said that the five were travelling in a lorry, when they hit a bike near Kudupu Temple. The bike rider who was injured was taken to hospital, while the lorry sped away.

Angered by the incident, the locals chased the lorry. The driver lost control and the lorry fell by the side of the road near Kumbashri hall near Kudupu Katte. On checking the lorry, the locals found 20 cattle inside.

The five who were in the lorry were then thrashed by the public.

It is said that they were transporting cattle from some place in north Karnataka. The lorry bears Udupi registration.

Sources said that the lorry was covered in tyre tubes and paddy chaff, under which the cattle were concealed.

The five persons, three of them identified as Abdul Rehman, Sameer and Haneef, were admitted to Wenlock hospital. One of them is said to be serious. All the five are said to be from Mangalore.

Kankanady rural police arrived on the spot. The bike rider who was injured has been identified as Santosh.

    10) FINALLY INDIA HAS EXPORTED QUALITY RECORD BEEF & INDIAN BEEF IS THE MOST WANTED IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES. YOUR SUGGESTION TO IMPORT BEEF IS RIDICULOUS & AWKWARD. IN OUR OWN BACKYARD SUFFICIENT CATTLE IS ACCESSIBLE HOW YOU INSINUATE TO IMPORT FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES. WHICH LOGIC IS THIS, I WONDER?!

    Dear Mr. K. S. Mayya,Mangalore/Bangalore,

Once again I disagree your answers & suggestions.
The bjp/nda had exported record beef to foreign countries.
    1) I had suggested 1 slaughter house per taluk. If 3 slaughter houses in a district will serve the purpose. At least 2-3 are better instead of 1 in a district.
    2) How did you evaluated 1 house 1kg. should consume beef, which calculation is this? your own I wonder. Many fathers & mothers who don’t consume meat but their house but their children eat the meat from Hotels.
    3) Some GSB’s & some Brahmins don’t know proper cooking any kind of meat they go to hotels & eat. From my points 1-3 your bet is invalid.
    4) The beef rate, a decade ago was just Rs.35 with bone & boneless Rs.50. Now the same is 160 & 200
    5) Presently Chicken in Mangalore skin out per kg. is Rs. 120 maximum.
    6) Presently cattle slaughter is heating up because of BJP’s vote bank politics.
    7) During bjp’s rule in Karnataka, its associates were die hard to ban cattle slaughter all over Karnataka. For the same purpose these goondas brought fake cow transportations & thefts. Once bjp lost elections they were bitten for their previous blunders. My fear is whoever has thrashed may be surely beaten back in the future which is an escalation & divides the society on communal basis.
    8) The benefit to farmers is when the cattle is old, they sell & get profit. The present situation of stealing is highly exaggerated. Once the law enforcement arrests their leaders & slap goonda act then nobody will dare to act fake cow transportations which is not imminent now due to nearing of elections.
    9) This cattle transportation is not a proven by any competent authority neither by me & by the commentators blah, blah, yet purely on biased & partisan.

    Dear Mr. Gonsalves,
Thanks for taking my comment negatively and being graceful in your response which actually is worthy of ignoring but still have clarified below.
It was a negative comment as what you were proposing is impractical just because it has to be "legal" slaughterhouse (you know the pace at which our govt departments work) and there must be huge demand (economic sense for the slaughter house to be conceived, and sustain) for beef.
For having that many slaughterhouses there must be demand for meat to the level wherein each house hold consumes atleast a kilo of beef daily, which I bet is not the case. In Bangalore, a Kilo of beef sells at Rs. 200 while contaminated, chemical rich chicken sells for Rs.400. I am sure the price ratio may not be very different in Mangalore either. Second and most pertinent to the discussion and the incident in Kudupu is ROBBERY of livestock. Contrary to your perception, there are not many farms growing cows for beef. So potential beef eaters and people making their living by supplying beef resort to robbing poor farmers whose life is dependent on those livestock.
Regarding proof that it was not stolen please take the initiative and prove. For normal people like me and many others who have commented it is amply clear that it was stolen freight on that ill fated truck.
So, all I was suggesting through my response to your illogical suggestion was, why bother building slaughterhouse. Instead import good quality beef.
Lets leave the minority community talk because, whether it be Siddu or Oscar both decided to meet the religious leader of significance to the votebank recently. Most importantly, most MLA & MP strength from undivided DK are in favor of minority community. Your belly aching is on thin ice on that front.
I leave you to sulk with your belly rhymes and prefer not to respond.

As much as i love all animals, i don't get it as to why these guys have no issues with illegal transportation of other animals.

Now someone reading this would say, Cow is god. Well let me speak your language & let me quote the Bhagavad Gita for you:

"An enlightened person - by perceiving God in all - looks at a learned person, an outcast, even a cow, an elephant, or a dog with an equal eye."

All animals feel pain, they too bond with their children like we do. Their blood is red in colour just like you & me.

Just letting these Hindu Org & like minded people know this. You may object to killing of Cows. But do u know that the leather jacket, that you seem to be a proud owner of or the leather belt u wear is usually made of cow skin & in many cases calves skin is also used to make leather which is very expensive.

Have you guys given a thought as to what happens to those cows in dairy farms (like Nandini & others) after they reach a point when they cant give any more milk?

Sorry, they aren't sent to Greenland.

Let me tell you this, most or i should say, a majority of these Dairy Cows end up in the slaughter house.

So get your facts right before you ostracize or stereotype someone just because they don't the same food as you.

If you guys learn as to how the cows are treated in the Dairy industry, you wouldn't drink a of milk for the rest of your life.

Go to a slaughter house & just look at the pain pigs, chicken, goats, sheeps & other beings go through just to fill your platter. If your HUMAN enough to understand, you will never want a living being to go through such misery.

I can just go on & on on this.

P.S - Coming from a Bunt family, people expect me to be a hard core non vegetarian. But i've given up all forms of meat. I don't buy leather. It makes me happy.

Me not eating meat doesn't change the industry, but as the African Proverb goes, "If you think you're too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a closed room with a mosquito."

    Dear Mr. K. S. Mayya, Mangalore/Bangalore,

    I appreciate your negative comment.

We are not as much appetite for meat as those vegetarians devour like cannibals.

For a human both vegetarian and meat are good nutrition’s the nature has given us.

Man is not for the benefit of animals. However animals are for the benefit of humans.

Whole world consumes meat and in Mangalore we need restrictions only to satisfy the appetite of fundamentals?!

We have sufficient cattle for humans preserved by the nature and we humans can bring up more animals for the benefit of humans. It is the humans who eat the flesh of animals.

I do not understand why there are restrictions to open legal cattle houses in each taluks. Why there is hindrance.

WHO CAN PROVE THIS NEWS BLOG CATTLE WAS STOLLEN OR PURCHESED FROM MONEY?!

THE FUNDAMENTAL COMMANDMENT IS THOU SHALT NOT STEAL.

I am against stealing and I practice it. Now don't say all meat in the market is stolen.

Thanks for your cheers. To eat the meat do we need teethes only. Perhaps you may be not having teeth to bite. Those humans who have teeth why can’t they have enough belly full. Don't you have your food belly full? What makes you to stop us not to eat meat and which logic is this are you imposing upon us???!!!

Should we satisfy a small number of fundamentals who are just behind to destroy the minority community?!

    Wed, Oct 09 2013

I kindly suggest and humbly request all these recently sprouted organizations to help open more cattle slaughter houses in every Taluks.

Presently we have only one cow slaughter house in Mangalore for the whole of South Kanara District.
    1) BELTHANGADY - NO COW SLAUGHTER HOUSE.
    2) SULLIA - NO COW SLAUGHTER HOUSE.
    3) BANTWAL - NO COW SLAUGHTER HOUSE.
    4) PUTTUR - NO COW SLAUGHTER HOUSE.

I AM NOT VERY SURE WHETHER CATTLE SLAUGHTER HOUSE IS THERE IN UDUPI DISTRICT
    1) KARKALA – IF NO CATTLE SLAUGHTER HOUSE SHOULD BE OPENED IMMEDIATELY.
    2) KUNDAPUR - IF NO CATTLE SLAUGHTER HOUSE SHOULD BE OPENED IMMEDIATELY.

Due to only one Cow Slaughter House in Mangalore heavy to heavy burden on one and transportation of cows, and cow meat to and fro to all these Taluks increases meat prices.

Therefore, all meat consumers should have a meet to increase meat in the market there by allowing one each slaughter house in each taluk/four taluks.

THEN YOU WILL FIND THE MEAT PRICES WILL FALL DOWN IMMEDIATELY / INSTANTLY.

Wishing you all the best to meat eaters and non-meat eaters.
MAAS, MASLI NAAM THAR ROOS ASAAGI, CHAPPE NAYEM.
Maaso, meen idjjaanda aik onji ruchi unda maaraayere.
Beef, meengari illatthil o’rru rassam ille.
Maumsa, meenu llladhiddhare yeinoo ruchi illa.
Without Meat and Fish is there any taste?!
BOTH VEGETABLES AND MEAT ARE THE FULL NOURISHMENT TO HUMANS.
CATTLE ARE FOR THE BENEFIT OF HUMANS.
IF OPENED MORE CATTLE SLAUGHTER HOUSES THEN THERE WILL BE NO ILLIGAL SLAUGHTER HOUSES BUT ALL LEGAL ONLY.
IF MORE CATTLE SLAUGHTER HOUSE ARE OPENED SURELY THERE WILL BE NO THEFT CASES WHATSOEVER.

    Dear Mr. Gonsalves,
Nice dreams. You are entrusting the job of opening legal slaughterhouse to the government. You probably will not have teeth to chew the bone by the time they are operational.

On the other hand, there aren't enough cows/buffaloes to satisfy your appetite. Most of them have already been stolen and slaughtered in "one" legal slaughterhouse or umpteen other illegal slaughterhouse. Most likely your solution will lead to extinction of the species called cows and buffaloes (FYI: I agree that one could also steal wild buffaloes from the forest which again is illegal in any country on the face of this earth). Then probably you are left with no option but to import to satisfy your infinite appetite for beef. Why wait till then to import. Rather, import with immediate effect so that this day light robbery can stop. US, Kiwis and Aussies will be ever-ready to step in.
Most importantly you can then live in peace as BD/HJV will be rendered agenda-less/jobless.
Cheers Mr. Gonsalves there is enough food for all of us. You need not feast on stolen food.

Inaction by the police against culprits in both the sides are really condemned. Public start doing this only when the politics plays role in each everything. Proper billing and documentations requires for legal transport of cattle for any purpose. I suggest Vehicle should be marked in certain symbol and should be checked in every police station by the officials on the field. Avoid appeasement. Lets join the hands for development..

May be you are not watching National Geogrpahy channel where animal eats another animal, birds eat another bird and humans cannot eat other humans but they eat animals and plants. and for your information plants to have life and feel pain and even if dont eat plant just surviving on water still you are killing thousands of bacteria's which help humans in other forms, Hope you understood the cycle.

Dubai - INDIAN BEEF Dirhams 20/kg and available in every supermarkets.

Mangalore - Rs 250/kg very difficult to get !!!!!

Scene 1 : Fekus bargain and sell their unwanted cattles to butchers for cash.

Scene 2 : Then Fekus inform beedi gang members.

Scene 3 : Beedi gang members stops the cattle transport vehicle and make a big drama and then police comes. Finish.

Neither beedis or fekus care about the cattles.

    1) Hit and run is cruel and a crime (Here in this case Lorry driver knocking down a bike rider is not acceptable and to be punished by the law
    2) Illegally transporting of cattle is against the law and deserves punishment as per the law and cruelty against animals in the way it is transported in this case also not acceptable and punishable
    3) Thrashing and killing (look at the pictures and almost all are with severe injuries) is outburst of uncivilized behaviour of the crowd and they are not only more cruel, crminal minded, uncivilized and against the law than the culprits in the case above. Iam sure this is not just a momentary outburst of people against the wrong doing of the people those are involved, but a targeted attack to a certain segment of the society based on their names, belief or religion. When can we learn from our past experiences?. when will us be more human and kind to other human beings and the other lives in this world?. When the leaders and political party heads propagate such crimes and when the society watches these kind of leaders are being glorified for their inhuman acts, this kind of crime will continue in the society.

If we are looking political parties promoting such personalities to the national level and expect to rule the country, imagine the situation in our country and where the future of our next generation is heading towards? More than food, shelter and clothes, we need peace of mind, we need assurance and security for our lives. Education has helped up to a certain extent but we are still far from the required civilization and culture and each one of us are responsible for this. We dont see our neighbours sufferings, we dont want to know the significance of other beliefs, we dont want to understand other cultures, we want to be happy without the people around us, we are selfish and we are dreaming for a better tomorrow for our children! This cannot be achieved without unity, understanding and peace within the society! God bless u!

I really condemn this act of illegal cattle transporting,Being so called civilized human being how any one could treat the innocent animals in this kind, this is really a cruel behavior any one can showoff. The public made the right deed in this reaction, let the thieves also experience the same pain what the cattle have had experienced.Moral policing should always be done in this matters as we know to what extent our case can withstand in courts.

What should be noted and observed when animals are being transported?
    A) As mentioned above, the general conditions laid down in Section 98 of The
Transport of Animals Rules, 1978 should be strictly adhered to. And apart from that,
there are different rules for transporting different categories of animal, provided under
The Transport of Animals Rules, 1978. Overloading of animals amounts to treating of
animals cruelly under Section 11 of The Prevention Of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
If the above general conditions with regard to the transportation of animals are not
met, the animals should be immediately unloaded and sent to the nearest animal
shelter. Some further conditions that must be observed are:

In the case of trucks whose wheelbase is over 142 inches shall not carry more than
six cattle without calves or five with calves.
    • The Vehicle transporting them should be large enough to carry animals
comfortably and the animals should not be packed and jammed inside. The
animals should also be protected from the weather.
    • Animals are not allowed to be transported by tempo.
    • Within the vehicle, partitions, must be provided at every two or three metres
across the width to prevent the crowding and trapping of animals.
    • Sufficient food and water shall be carried to last during the journey and
watering facility should be provided at regular intervals.
    • First aid equipment should be available in the vehicle.
    • Suitable ramps should be provided for loading and unloading the animals.
    • Materials for padding such as straw, shall be placed on the floor to avoid injury
and this shall be not less than 5 cm thick.

Rash driving resulting in the accident, concealing livestock under hay and rubber tube, coupled with losing control of the vehicle when chased by locals (some in the comments section are unnecassarily are giving credit to BD) all are signs of illegal transport of cattle. However, it would be interesting to see how much of such past cases have reached logical conclusion? Have guilty been punished? Or it is dejavu everytime police takes over?

Locals should have called police and ensured that a FIR is registered and the lorry along with its freight was siezed. Apart from that, there was no need to take law onto their own hands. It's just mob mentality and everybody having a go at few is real pity. The look on the faces of the police is also not very encouraging.

Some have raised illegal drugs and alcohol issue. Illegal cattle transport it appears is not run by influential people while alcohol and drug is. That's why nobody catches them.

@RSRB, Kundapura / KSA, where did u find in my comments that I am biased. You are talking about humanity, did these thugs showed the same humanity to Santhosh?.. Did they show that humanity to those poor animals... they are unfit to be called humans...they are thieves of the first order who do these illegal things knowing the consequences very well.

I was a victim of Bike Accident and I know the suffering for not doing any mistake. The big vehicles just knock us down and people & commentators should be sympathetic towards 2 wheeler victims. Sorry for hurting you, I read your comment again and felt sorry.
