Mangalore, Oct 9: The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Students Federation of India (SFI) organized a protest against the mystery surrounding Sowjanya murder case even after a year.

The sit-in protest was held in front of the DC office here on Wednesday, October 9.

The protestors mainly demanded CBI probe into the case. Various activists, women rights’ groups, leaders of various organizations from the district took part in the protest.

Addressing the state chief minister Siddaramaiah, the protestors demanded that the case be transferred from CoD and to CBI. "The police officers who destroyed evidence must be dismissed and a strict amendment should be made by the Supreme Court in rape laws," they said.

The also urged that the media be forbidden to exaggerate rape cases. "There must be strict action on the makers of blue films, the number of fast track courts must be increased, family as well as society should take every responsibility to give security to women. In Dakshina Kannada district, the unnatural deaths of women must be properly scrutinized and rape cases must be solved within 3 months and verdicts must be delivered within 6 months," they said.

All India Democratic Women's Association president, Hemalata said, “The government keeps changing; earlier it was BJP government and now it is Congress but under any government the security of the women has always been neglected.”

Dakshina Kannada district committee member, Kiran Prabha; Dakshina Kannada district committee secretary, Dayananda; DYFI president, Munir Katipala; SFI president, Nitin Kuthar; Dakshina Kannada district committee member Razak, and other members of Forum on Crimes Against Women were present for the protest.

Sowjanya was found raped and murdered on October 10, 2012 at Pangala near Dharmasthala in Beltangady. Her body was found among the bushes in a forest area. The CoD had begun a probe following public pressure, but no progress has been made so far. The state government had stated that it would order a fresh probe by CID.

Very glad that the protest has reached the District headquarters. Surely there is somebody behind this.
It is a rightful demand. I should say that the leaders who spearhead the agitation beware that there are vested interests behind this crime of a innocent girl.

Most CONgress people say their Beltangady MLA Vasant Bangera known for his straight forwardness. But I am surprise why he is not making statement regarding this rape and murder case which was happened in his region? Moreover why he has not been offered any Ministry Post in present Government if he is so good?

There are political influential culprits are behind Saujanya's rape and murder.Only the CBI can expose those criminals. CM Siddaramayya should refer the case to CBI immediately and so as to hang those
murderers of poor Saujanya. Now where are the groups like VHP,Bajrang Dal,Hindu Jagarana Vedike,Sri Rama Sene,Durga Vahini and ABVP? Why dont they come forward and fight for justice?

A very much valid question Mr. Harry. These organizations are mum because they very well know what will happen to their organization if the rapist is caught. It is very unfortunate that, we, Indians try to protect the criminals if they belong to our community/religion. That is the reason why criminals do not care for the law. Jai Hind.

Very good. Finally people woke up from sleep. I am sure the Police dept. is well aware of the rapist. They wants to hush up the case due to his hold in politics. Even the people in and around Dharmasthala knows whose work it is. Now, Congress is in power and I am sure our CM sir will look in to the issue. May good God give justice to dear Sowjanya. Rest in Peace Sowjanya. Look how many people are trying to give justice to you.

As I was repeating from before both BJP and Congress are two sides of the same coin, they help each other, there by crimes are not investigated properly, we voters are fools to elect them. Since there will be a NOTA button while voting, slowly things may change hopefully for better.

Even after one year the trace could not found of sowjanya rape and murder. the children of heogher authorities and social reformers joined in this murder. so the police department knows about this case has been concealed.

Tomorrow if it is proved that Sowjanya murder was done by either BD or HJV activists as it happened in Manipal rape case will they still insist on CBI probe?

Dear Dev Sagar, you are a true Mangalorean. Most of the Mangaloreans love property than individual. Is there any comparison between rape cruelty and home stay attack? Forget about Church Attack, Pub Attack, Temple Attack or Mosque Attack. Any Individual irrespective of their religion or caste comes first priority dear Dev. We have seen people even fight for Animals, Forests, Mangroves etc, etc, too. Here we are talking about Innocent Girl lost her life because of few cowards’ cruelty but not about any property or structure or religious place

Dear Sachidananda Shetty, I fully agree with your view. Religion apart, think of the poor girl who has been raped and killed. Think of her family. How much the girl must have suffered/frightened and pleaded for mercy & the rapist is still enjoying his life with full freedom. Is it not because of people who give primary place to religion than to think of living human beings. Sowjanya's soul is crying for justice and we, the people should compel the concerned authorities to arrest and punish the rapist, the monster. May God give justice to dear Sowjanya. Jai Hind.

Dear Jossey, here again you are making mistake, it should be like this “Tum Kare Toh Chamatkar Hum Kare to Balatkar” BJP failed to handover the case to CBI but then CONgiss demanded for CBI probe but now vice versa why? So, these people are eating their food baked in same cooker but we are fighting ourselves by saying “Zinda Baad Zinda Baad and Murdabad Murdabad”
