Mangalore, Oct 9: To fight against the injustice done to Vasanthi Umanath Karkera, a resident of Kadri, various organizations came together and organized a press meet at Hotel Woodland on Tuesday October 8.

A land of 1.37 acres was rented in the year 1969, to the forefathers of Vasanthi Umanath Karkera. As they were illiterate, no proper documentation was done.

The present land owner, M K Babu sold the land illegally and did not give a prior intimation of the land being sold which has been under the tenancy of Karkera family for more than 100 years. Vasanthi Umanath Karkera has been maintaining the tax receipts since November 15, 2001 up-to-date.

The village accountant has also agreed that the taxes have been paid on time.

P Keshava, state committee member of DSS said, “At least the land and the surrounding should be given to the Karkera family as they have been residing for years together.”

It is also learnt that their cultivations, Temples and the surroundings of the house have been already demolished.

Thus, under the Rent Control Act, a complaint has been recorded in the police station and a case has been registered in the court.
