Jaya C Suvarna elected chairman of Bharat Bank

Mumbai, Oct 9: Jaya C Suvarna, president of All India Billawa Federation and director of The Bharat Co-operative Bank (Mumbai) Limited was unanimously elected as new chairman of the same Bank, the advocate Rohini J Salian re-elected as deputy chairperson.

Maharashtra state co-operative Societies additional registrar and electioneering officer of Bank’s board of director A.K.Chavan announced the appointment of new chairman and new deputy chairperson during the Board of Directors meeting held the Bank’s central office located Marutigiri, Samant Estate, Goregaon (East) here on Wednesday October 9 morning.

The assistant electioneering office Sandeep Deshmukh was present at the dais.

Twenty-one new directors were elected this time too, out of which 10 were reserved for ordinary category – B S Amin (Amin Somanat Babu), Ashok M Kotian(Kotian Ashok Mutappa), V R Kotian (Kotian Vasudev Raju), M B Kukyan (Kukyan Mahabala Booba), Damodar C Kundar (Kundar Damodar Chandu), Harish Mulky (Mulky Harschandra Gudha), Chandrashekar S.Poojary (Poojary Chandrashekar Somappa), Gangadhar J Poojary (Poojary Gangadhar Jarappa), K B Poojary (Poojary Koragappa Booba), R D Poojary (Raghu Duggana Poojary), U S Poojary (Poojary Shivaji Uppoor), Bhaskar M Salian (Salian Bhaskar Muddu), Rohit M.Suvarna (Suvarna Rohit Mohanchandra), Suryakant J.Suvarna (Suvarna Suryakant Jaya); backward case and SC category – Anbalagan C Harijana (Harijana Anbalagan Chinapillai), women reserved category – Pushpalata N.Salian (Salian Pushpalata Narsappa)); Banking experts category -  J A Kotian (Kotian Jaya Aithappa) and K N Suvarna (Suvarna Narayan Karnad) were elected as new directors unanimously.

The Bank’s top officers, the exiting chairman Vasudev R.Kotian congratulated the newly-elected chairman Jaya C Suvarna and deputy chairperson advocate Rohini J Salian on the occasion.

The Bank CEO and MD C R Mulky welcomed the gathering and briefed on the milestones achieved by the bank.  The Bank director and deputy general manager Nityanand D.Kotian proposed vote of thanks.

Jaya C Suvarna

He hails from Adve in Mulky of Dakshina Kannada district, migrated to metro after completing Class VIII, studied at NKES High School, Wadala and Chinmaya College, Andheri (West), while during college studies he set up his hotel and became a significant hotelier.  He strived for the progress of Billawa community in the metro, and became instrumental in establishing Billawa Bhavan in Santacruz (East).  He served as director in the Bharat Bank 3 decades ago, while during 1991 he was elected as its president.  He has been credit for the rapid expansion of branches that reached 55 in Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Advocate Rohini J Salian 

She hails from Boloor in Mangalore city.  She is currently practicing as a lawyer and also serves as public prosecutor in the metro.
