Mangalore: Young crowd revels in stunning bike stunts

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (NM)

Mangalore, Oct 11: It was a spectacular day for all those who happened to be on the campus of Srinivas Institute of Management College, Pandeshwar on Thursday October 10. Six professional bikers belonging to ‘Team RDX’, Mangalore, entertained the viewers with their daredevilry acts.

The performance was organized as part of ‘Magma’, an intercollegiate PG-level (MBA and M Com) management fest with the theme ‘INIZIO- 2013 - the business war begins’.

In a one-hour long act, the team consisting of Aakash Bangera, Jeppu, Shabaas Khan, Thokkottu, Basanth Singh, Pandeshwar, Danish, Pandeshwar, Arafath and Rashad of Jeppu set the campus on fire with the audience bursting into applause after each stunt.

“We performed ‘wheelies’ of different types, ‘stoppies’ (the back wheel is off the ground while the biker controls the bike only with the front wheel), ‘clock tower’ (the biker stands on the handle while the bike is in motion), freestyle stunts (moving the bike in circles and performing freestyle stunts), ‘burn out’, and so on,” said Aakash, one of the performers.

As the performance went on, viewers, mostly teenagers, clicked pictures and some videographed the breathtaking performances on their mobile phones.

It is unfortunate that the College Management is supporting such unsafe stunts. Less than month ago I attended one young man's funeral who was bike lover and member of Bike club in Mumbai who died during the stunt in highway. Also now the fuel is expensive and these people are wasting the fuel for unsafe acts. The Traffic police should act against these bikers.

Being a biker myself, im happy to see such an event happening in my hometown. But, at the same time im not happy with way it was conducted. Wat was the Mgmt of Srinivas college and the stunters themselves wer thinkin conducting this event without proper barricades to protect the spectators and no protective gear apart from d helmets?? It is such carelessness and recklessness that tarnishes the image of stunting and also biking. Ride and Stunt safely and responsibly.
And to those who think stunting only lands you jobs as stunt doubles in movies n circus, google d name Chris Pfeiffer. N to d riders please chk out Ghost Ryders and learn how to stunt responsibly.
And to those who think a bike is a dangerous thing on road, a pedestrian carelessly walking on d road instead of using d footpath can be equally dangerous not for the pedestrian but for the Biker....

please look at professional stunting as a sport, and respect these youngsters for the talent that they have.just like cricket and other sports are appreciated.

the reason these things are looked down in our cities is because of the way they are projected.
just because some retards try these things on public roads and break their heads,we can't judge everyone from the same view point.people killing themselves trying these on the roads are not stunters.they are idiots.
they have performed in a closed environment(even though it wasnt secure enough), but atleast there is a start somewhere.kudos to the college for supporting the event.

More spread of safety awareness to the audience would be good. It would remove the stereotype , also helps people differentiate between whats good and whats not.

What the event has achieved? Burning Petrol(At this time of crisis)? Inspiring young students to do stunts(mostly meeting with accidents)? Ultimately where you will reach even if you become the best stunt man (either in circus or for the film industry)
    Think about the out come.

Good that the college gave a platform to perform.

Bad that the place was not safe. I find students standing very close to the bikers. There are no barricades or fencing.

And certainly after the show the team RDX should have given a pep talk on dangers of performing these stunts without proper safety gear and training.

Some time back a 31 yr old tried jumping from one balcony to another and slipped from 11th floor. These kind of this happen coz we do something without thinking much. Similarly when drive a two wheeler we might get the urge to drive faster which is unsafe.

Esp in Mangalore I feel Buses are most dangerous than the bikers.

In movies and photographs it looks very easy and simple but in practical it is not so easy. It requires practice. So my dear young brothers PLEASE DO NOT TRY BY LOOKING THESE PICTURES AND RISK YOUR LIFE. Before you do any stunts, think of your family who live for you and care for you. Be always safe. God bless you.

Looks like they put up a good show, well done boys. Keep it up. Being a biker, i would suggest the team to wear proper stunt gears. It is very dangerous to perform stunts/ride without safety gears and will give wrong message to other young people who wants to do/learn stunt on two wheeler.

While the stunts indeed look stunning! I would express caution as there are serious concerns on safety associated with these. And that too a college organising this is something I cannot digest. May be the intention is entertainment, but this could send wrong signals to teenagers. Wonder how many have now decided to be a professional stunt man...
Guys, please DO NOT TRY this anywhere and remember, Life is precious and very beautiful.

All the people who have been commenting negative here pls understand its a talent n sport..we have less appreciation cos nly thing one knows is cricket..appreciate these kids efforts and give them an oppurtunity to open their wings n fly..just cos you dnt like dnt mean what they are doing is nonsense..doing it on road is a strict no..bt these kids have been giving superb performances at kundapur,Udupi,Mangalore..encourage them if not stay quite..as they say haters will always hate no matter what..

What was the need for an educational institute to conduct such shows. we have heard and even some of us even witness death that have taken place by speed bikes, wheeling. many a times at night i have jumped out of bed on hearing loud noise of speedy bikes on the road. even i wonder why RTO is not conducting night rounds to stop such act in Mangalore. life is precious please use your bravery and potentials in useful acts. we have no rights even by our reckless driving, riding to trouble, harm others.

With all due respect, these guys are trained professionals and all safety norms are taken into consideration while doing these stunts. If done on a professional basis it is more of a sport which is gaining popularity in India and there are national level and international level platforms where these stunts are displayed and also competitions/tournaments held. College authorities should infact promote such events if done on a professional basis.

Agree there are events nationally and internationally, but common college premises is not a place for it and am sure there is not ready waiting ambulance in worst case scenario and i do not see any track too. There is a place for everything.
I dont understand what the mgmt was thinking even before approving such events.
