Mumbai: St Peter’s Association Barkur celebrates silver jubilee

Mumbai, Oct 15: St Peter’s Association Barkur celebrated their silver jubilee celebration at Vincent Pallotti parish, Vijayanagar, Marol, Andheri (East) here on Sunday October 13.

Bishop Dr Henry D’Souza of Bellary, Karnataka celebrated the Thanksgiving Mass at Vincent Pallotti parish, Marol, Andheri (East) here on Sunday morning.

St Peter’s parish priest Fr Valerian Mendonca, Barkur, Udupi, St Jude’s parish priest Fr Nelson Saldanha, Jerimeri, Andheri (East) and Pallotti parish priest Fr Charles Fernandes co-celebrated the Thanksgiving Mass along with Bishop Dr Henry on the occasion.

Fr Valerian Mendonca presided over the stage programme held at Pallotti parish auditorium after the Thanksgiving Mass.

The entrepreneur Ronald Goveas was the chief guest of the occasion. Caravan Travels managing director Harry Rebello, Model Co-op Bank chairman Albert W D’Souza were the guests of honour.

Bishop Dr Henry inaugurated the programme and offered motion for silver jubilee celebrations by cutting the cake. He also released silver jubilee bulletin on the same occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Bishop Dr Henry said that the parishioners of Barkur in Udupi diocese are generous who value their past to contribute for the progress of parishioners in their native. The need of the hour is to develop wider perspective at the chaotic world. As the joint families are withering, the children need to be educated on the significance of families in caring for the elderly families. The social activists should have genuine societal concern, love and empathy to fellowmen, honesty and ready to serve. The religion is enriched by prosperity of common-folks. Therefore, there is the greater need to promote politicians and entrepreneurs in the community, said Bishop Dr Henry.

Fr Mendonca said that the association has significantly contributed for the parish in back in the native. The silver jubilee celebrations is a milestone in the history of association, said Fr Mendonca. He also conveyed best wishes for the association in their future endeavor.

St Peter’s Association Barkur former president and silver jubilee celebration committee president Felix Barnes, Richard Carvalho and Henry Roache were present on the dais.

The association honorary chief secretary Ivan Rebello briefed on the education fund that was launched in commemorating silver jubilee celebrations.

St Peter’s Association Barkur (Mumbai) vice president Norbert Menezes, treasurer Antony Dias, Vincent Fernandes, Gladys Sequeira, John Goveas, Wilfred Sequeira, Norman D’Souza, Arthur Mendonca, Antony Goveas, Michael D’Almeida, Mark Goveas, Nirmala Rebello, Ivan Suvares, Joylan Fernandes among others were present on the occasion.

The renowned Konkani musicians Henry D’Souza and Victor Concesso presented Konkani musical concert as part of entertainment programme. Besides variety cultural events were staged on the occasion. Scholarships were distributed to the talented students who are members of association during the programme.

St Peter’s Association Barkur (Mumbai) president Simon Peter Furtado welcomed the gathering. Sara Mathias presented welcome dance. The silver jubilee Committee president Ida Roache introduced the guests. Clement Lobo compered the programme. The secretary Eric Carvalho proposed vote of thanks.
