Madani's 'Secular' remark sparks fresh row

New Delhi, Oct 16 (DHNS) : Political parties reacted sharply to a remark by the President of the Jamiat-i-Ulema-e-Hind, Maulana Mehmood Madani, that “secular parties” should not attempt to create fear among the Muslims of Gujarat citing the bogey of Chief Minister Narendra Modi in order to get votes.

While the BJP took the remark as proof of the Congress’ tactics for gaining Muslim votes by scaring them, the Congress said that such a scare does not exist and it was not their creation.

The Left attacked both the Congress and the BJP and maintained that any attempt at polarizing people on communal lines is against democratic interest. Maulana Madani made his remark during his address at a conference in Jaipur for demanding reservation for Muslims and he reiterated it to the media.

"These so-called secular parties should explain what their governments in different states have done. What promises they have fulfilled and which ones still remain? They should seek votes on this basis and not on the basis of fear of somebody else," he said.

“Do not try to gain our votes in a negative way by showing the fear of a particular individual. Muslims won't be deterred by that,” he added.  He apparently was referring to Modi.

However, Madani later denied accusing the Congress of using the Modi bogey for attracting Muslim votes in the coming  lections.  He said he had been misquoted in media reports.

“It is now clear as to how the Congress has been exploiting people for votes. It has been scaring the voters to get their votes. But people have gradually realised this,” BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

The Congress asserted that fear has already been in existence and they have not created it. Congress spokesman Meem Afzal said, “We have not created any fear. It has been there for long. It has a history of its own.” Afzal, however, felt that Madani should have tempered his remarks.

In the history of Independent India, congress only hid behind Burqa & played pseudo secular politics. They do not want to ban groups like BD, VHP or SRS etc, because they want to use them to create a sense of insecurity so that they can cash in on the Muslim votes. They first instigate violence and then when it spreads blame it on BJP. Due to the demographic factor of the country, in most of the cases(not all) Muslims bear the brunt of the riots and Congress takes a HIFI in AICC headquarters that their mission is accomplished now and then they start playing their politics over a Muslim corpses. They do not want Hidhus and muslims to be living in harmony because otherwise they would not have any reason to beg for votes as their party is sunk neck deep in corruption. This is the universal truth of pseudo secular Khangress, & unfortunately some educated Muslims are also brainwashed and they the think Khangress is their only savior. Communal harmony can be mainited by interacting with each other with a HUMANE approach not with a political approach. If you say Khangress, we say BJP, as simple as it is. We may vote for one good Muslim candidate with a BJP ticket but not one Hindhu with Khangress ticket.

..We may not know MADANI's hidden agenda but what he said is true..Congress always played with minority vote bank, followed divide & rule since independence..Congress trageting MODI with propaganda politics is dangerous to the nation..Congress may be thinking by instilling fear about MODI in a section of people will get votes, they may benifit by this..But congress should not forget that it is not fear, it is anger accumulating among a section of society against a person (evethough there is no evidence, clean chit by supreme court & riots happened all almost all states which is ruled by congress) which is clearly dividing nation and our enemies taking full advantage of this..and there is also tendency of connecting each & every fringe groups with BJP, eventhough these groups act independently..Diggy,Shakeel still have soft corner over IM group & SP still advocates to remove ban on SIMI eventhough there is evidence against these groups!! But these are very clean & secular parties..

Madani is famous for controversial statements. Congress never worried about Modi and not tried to gain the muslim votes by scaring them. each and every muslims know which party is good, who can protect their interests and who did the development in India. If he is appealing the muslims for not to vote congress, then let him explain which party is better than congress for muslims in national level. it is nothing but he is indirectly canvassing for Modi and BJP.

I really endorse the statement by Madani.Minorities vote for congress not because congress has done any good for them. It is because they see BJP as the anti-minority party.Minorities have prospered because of their own efforts and not because of congress government.India is a multi religious and multi cultural society and the PM at the center, whichever party he belongs to is answerable to the international community. We have the examples of AB Vjapayee a true secular PM, Manohar Parrikar OF GOA who is admired by all and I don't think minorities have problems leaders of that caliber becoming PM of this country even if they belong to a party of not their choice. We had a historic chance in 2002 where P.C.Alexander would have become the first Christian president of this country and don't forget it is congress who betrayed us.If congress at the center is the guardian of minorities Church attacks wouldn't have taken place. I strongly believe that minorities have to think about protecting themselves and their religious places rather than relying on congress or any other regional party.

most of the secular muslim leaders other than karnataka state slowly make their opinion that the muslim community should in line with the majority of this country when the issue of development. Also some of the muslim leaders started accepting the NDA mantra - Development for all and appeasement of none.
But if take karnataka the problem of not going inline with majority community is the so called propoganda of divide and rule from both the communities which help pseudo rulers.U can see the banners and buntings of Shri Modiji having strong hindu slogans which definately make muslims and christians of the area to stay back. The said posters of Shri Modiji having only hindu sentiments not even acceptable for those who supports Shri Modiji for the development pattern he put front to the next gen.The brigade who thinks that Shri Modiji is a only Hindutva follower they are wrong.Just stop showing him a masterpiece of a particular community bcoz he is not at all that kind of person. Shri Madaniji of J ulema hind is a well educated leader having nation freindly secular credentials.I salute him.

If elections are won only with minority votes, Muslim Leage would have done it long time back. In a school, if a teacher gives extra time and takes extra classes for students scoring less than average marks, that does not mean, the teacher is biased. It is a novel way to bring all students in one fold. Congress though working in that direction, is absolutely misarable in conviencing both for underperformers and better performers. This is their stupidity. BJP on the other hand instigating the rest 90 percent "okey, you see the teacher is giving more time only to those underperformers denying your chances". This is their opportunism.

One thing we must understand that there is no 'secular' political party in India. But the people who call themselves as secular again and again and create fear amongst the people in the name of secularism are the most dangerous and vicious of the lot!
