Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj meets Koraga community members

Udupi, Oct 16: ‘Solutions Through Discussions’ organized by the Koraga Taluk Samithi, Udupi, and Koragabhivrudhi Sanghatanegala Okkoota Karnataka – Kerala, was a special meeting with MLA Pramod Madhwaraj at the taluk office on Tuesday October 15.

The discussion was mainly concentrated on the decreasing number of the community’s population due to lack of basic facilities in health leading to disorders like malnutrition and low haemoglobin count in most.  Issues related to the Koraga community like title deeds, housing aids, and other schemes were also discussed.

The culture and the beliefs of Tulunadu mostly belong to the Koraga community. They are the pillars of society and they don’t even have shelter of their own. The people of the Koraga community wanted to be farmers or self-employed as most of them are dependent on other communities for their income.

In total, there are 1,666 families with 6,200 people in it and 147 groups. They said that many works like Kenjoor Hall are pending from many years and these must be completed at the earliest.

Madhwaraj said that though the government has many schemes for the Koraga
community, they have not been utilizing it because they are very naïve. He added that if they cannot come to us, we will go to them.

He added that he will appeal to tribal director Vijay Prakash to give a special package to the Koraga community.

Madhwaraj added that BPL holders who don’t have electricity at home will get free electricity   through the Rajeev Gandhi Vidhyuth Yojane.

Dr P V Bhandary, director, A V Baliga Charitable Trust, and Bogra Koraga were felicitated for their social work.

Shashikala Koraga, president, Samagra Gramin Ashrama , Gowri Poojarthi, TP president,  Veronica Carnalio, TP member, Udhay Kumar Shetty, ITDP officer, and Guruprasad, tahsildar, and others were present.
