Dr Shivaram Karant memorial endowment lecture delivered

Mumbai, Oct 16: “Dr Shivaram Karant loved children the most, while Karantotsav celebration should provide a stage to children to exhibit their inherent talent. The inherent talent should be brought to experimental level. Dr Karant was boosting the confidence of theater artistes by helping them to direct the plays on their own. Meanwhile, it is essential that more programmes should be organized for the new generation to get insight into life of Dr Karant,” said Sadanand Suvarna Cultural Foundation director and theater artiste Sadanand Suvarna.

Sadanand was speaking after offering motion for Dr Shivaram Karant memorial endowment lecture at Poisor Gymkana, Kandivali (West) here on Sunday October 14 afternoon. It was organized by Charkop Kannadigara Balaga Kandivali in association with Sadanand Suvarna Cultural Foundation.

Mangalore-based Gokarnanateshwar College head of department of Kannada Dr Narasimhamurty delivered the endowment lecture.

Charkop Kannadigara Balaga Kandivali president Bhaskar Sarapady presided over the function. Goregaon Karnataka Sangh president Payyaru Ramesh Shetty was the chief guest of the occasion.

Dr Narasimhamurty in his endowment lecture said that Dr Karant strongly believed in Gandhiji’s ideology and need of early freedom from imperial rulers, with due emphasis on empowering rural folks. He had experimented on Yakshagana to make it more vibrant and appealing to rural masses. He also inspired rural folks to join in freedom struggle because he adored dignity. He is the motivation for modern families, because he had struggled through competitions in his joint family set up, said Dr Narasimhamurty.

Payyaru Ramesh Shetty said that Charkop Kannadigara Balaga Kandivali proved that one can achieve anything with grit and confidence, which is exemplified in organizing a programme in memory of legendary litterateur Dr Karant.  Although, Charkop Kannadigara Balaga Kandivali is just a few years old, it has set a role model to others in promoting culture and literary programmes in the metro, said Shetty.

Bhaskar Sarapady in his presidential address said that unity in diversity personified in Charkop Kannadigara Balaga Kandivali, because each member strives to uphold Karnataka cultural hierarchy in the metro, said Bhaskar.

Charkop Kannadigara Balaga Kandivali honorary chief secretary M S Rao, vice president Manjunat Bannur, chief treasurer Gowri Paniyadi, joint treasurer Sadashiv C Poojary, advisor Dr N G Bhat, women wing president Shanta N Bhat, other office bearers Lata Bangera, Padmavati B Shetty, S C Poojary, Krishna Amin, Nina P Shetty, Jayasri Suvarna, Vijay D Poojary, Gopal Trasi, Ashanat among others were present on the occasion.

Rajasni R Shetty, Tejasvi, Tanuja Bhat and Sasikala group presented devotional singing and folk songs.

Rotary Club member Vinay Bhat led the medical consultation camp on the occasion. Rotary Club president Girish Trivedi urged the gathering to bring hope for others, by donating precious organs after death. Rotary Club secretary Bharat Shah, Raju Bai, Uday Bai, Mulraj Kapadia and others were present.

Honorary chief secretary M S Rao welcomed the gathering. Joint secretary Raghunat N delivered the introductory address. Gopal Trasi introduced the guests and compered the programme. Jaya Shetty proposed vote of thanks.
