Iron ore scam: CBI nabs absconding BJP MLA at Bangalore Airport
Bangalore, Oct 17 (Agencies): CBI arrested former tourism Minister and BJP MLA Anand Singh on Thursday. The MLA had been absconding from a month.
Anand Singh was nabbed at the Bangalore International Airport as he flew in from Singapore, where he had been hiding.
The MLA is an accused in the Belekeri port iron ore export scam case. He had fled to Singapore just before the CBI had summoned him for questioning at its Bangalore office last month.
He had slipped out dramatically before a CBI alert on him fleeing the country had reached the airports.
Later, Singh's counsel had filed an anticipatory bail petition in the CBI court in Bangalore stating that the MLA was in Singapore for treatment for a heart ailment.
In the petition, Singh has pleaded that he has been co-operating with the CBI all through the probe and now the CBI was unnecessarily thinking of arresting him, though he was innocent.
The court ahd rejected his petition and declared him an absconder.
