Mangalore: Janardhan Poojary backs Dr Heggade, questions intention behind allegations

Mangalore, Oct 17: "As there was no eyewitness to the brutal rape and murder of Sowjanya which took place a year ago, the case can only be fought on circumstantial evidence. Police have already investigated the case and arrested a person. Now after such a long gap, a few people are saying that he is not the accused and allegations are being made against Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade. I do not understand the intention behind this and why they were quiet till now," said former union minister B Janardhan Poojary.

Addressing a press meet here Thursday October 17, Poojary said "Soon after the news of Sowjanya's murder was flashed, I visited the family even though I was busy. The pain the family were going through hurt me badly and I was speechless. I asked the family if they suspected anyone, to which they replied in the negative.

"Now a few people are alleging that Dr Heggade's family was responsible for the murder. My question is why were they quiet till now and what is their intention in doing this?" questioned Poojary.

"The allegations have hurt Dr Heggade. If his family member had committed the crime, why would he call the then home minister R Ashok to undertake detailed investigation and demand for CBI probe in the case? Until a person is proved as accused, it is wrong to make allegations against him. Even Sowjanya might cry in heaven for making allegations against Dr Veerendra Heggade," said Poojary.

He further said, "So far there has been no blot on Dr Heggade's image. Through various social welfare programmes, he has always worked for the people but now some forces are trying to slander his name."

Poojary also urged the chief minister to grant a compensation of Rs 5 lac to the victim's family, apart from demanding CBI investigation and also strict action against those trying to defame Dr Heggade, if their guilt is proved.

"Police will investigate from every angle and no person can escape the law. Until the allegations against Dr Heggade's family are proved, we will continue to respect him. In case people provide evidence or clue in the case and officials do not investigate it, then I will be the first person to fight," he assured.

Former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty, Suresh Ballal, Harikrishna Bantwal among others were present.

However, when reporters asked Poojary a few questions to further clarify his stand on the matter, his answers wavered.

A year ago when this heinous crime shocked and shook everybody in the state, I expected quick justice in the case under the powerful influence of Dr. Heggade, who always stands for the cause of the poor. Also due to the fact that this tragic incident happened in the vicinity of Dharmasthala Kshetra, I never imagined this case will turn so controversial as a result of unnecessary involvement by politicians and leaders of communal organizations. Now for the sake of truth and justice for Sowjanya, these politicians and leaders must stop from interfering in the work of legal authorities.

Every body demanding CBI investigation in this matter from the day of incidence. But it was not given to CBI till date. This means those who are demanding CBI investigation must be rolling crocodile tears. When there is demand from each and everybody to catch the culprit in this matter but nothing has been done. One person who is in the custody is he accused in this matter then why the investigation is not completed ans charge sheet is not filed?. If the evidence is destroyed by the police the brain mapping and poly gram test be conducted on them. If the police cannot crack this case then they cannot crack any case then what the accountability of the police when they are paid from the tax payers money.

Mr. Pujary being a Advocate you should not have made such a statement. Since the rape victim is no more who will give evidence in favor of her. If the Police has destroyed the medical evidence which is crucial to the case in the absence of direct evidence, how the case can be proved?. You please read Medical Jurisprudence and Toxicology what it says?. Even if the victim dies if the case is proved medically. the accused can be convicted.

Most of the Soujanaya's pro 'horatagararu' fighting for their personal hidden agenda. In first face Somanatha Nayak (NST) charging police inactiveness. Now he is charging agaist SKDRD project, SDM Institutions and other Temple matters. Educated people of D.K. understand this gimmick properly....?

Kindly confirm and respond.Last Saturday I was in Ujire.In my area Power supply properly done. There are some allegation that MESCOM disconnected power. Regularly 5 to 6 times power supply distrubed. This is purely false news.
Secondly Somanatha Nayak, Thimarody using Soujanya's parents for their personal benefits. I am a Degree student in SDM College Ujire.

Janardhana Poojary we also want to know who instructed MESCOM Belthangady to go for unauthorized Power-cut on last Saturday exactly when the TV was airing the interview of Saujanya's parent and others, so that people could not see the interview on their TV.
Govt should order Disciplinary action against MESCOM officials who ordered this unauthorized power cut.

Lok Sabha elections. But people want to know the truth and the real culprits behind Soujanya's rape and
murder.Unfortunately the Congress
Ministers and MLAs proved that they are not different from BJP.Common people have already lost trust in Congress.
Unless and until the real culprits are arrested, people will go away from Congerss Party.People are fed up with false promises and
gimmics of politicians irrespective of political parties.BJP Govt did nothing about Sowjanya's rape and murder case.Now what will Congress Govt do?

In Kudroli Temple when J Pujary worked for the Cause of Women, every one thought that he has changed for good and has done Good job. But now his real colour is out in Saujanya's case. In last 12 months he did not speak even a single word about catching the real culprit of Saujanya's murder. Now he has jumped to talk in a tone which is detrimental to the interest of Women.What a double face for Vote poojariji. But all this is waste because he may never get ticket for Mangalore Constituency.

I can't believe Poojary is making such a statement!!!!
It is just another vote bank tactics!!!

Grieved Party can go for HC and then only HC asks state govt to furnish affidavit relating to case progress.If State Govt object then HC will take it's own decision after making enough home work over the issue.

FOR EXAMPLE WE CAN SEE THE LABOURS IN AND AROUND OF DHARMASTHALA IS WORKING IN THE HOLY PLACE AND REALLY WE CAN TASTE THE REAL FOOD ( RICE ) FROM THE TEMPLE, WHICH IS OWN CULTIVATION OF DHARMASTHALA. Tarnishing image of any innocent, big or small is really very sad.

Not providing justice to the soul of Soujanya, other deaths & aggrieved parties also extremely sad!

Human heart should cry, when innocent is crying and should call for justice!
Politicians shouldn't accuse or give conclusion till investigations are over!
Instead should work for fair, quick and impartial investigation till the matter reaches to its logical end!

WE CONDEMN THE MURDER OF KUM. SOWJANYA AND PRAY FOR HER SOUL TO REST IN PEACE.. EVEN DR. HEGGADEJI IN HIS STATEMENT SUPPORTED THE PROBE BY CID OR CBI AND REITERATED THAT JUSTICE SHOULD GET TO HER FAMILY.

An innocent child from a poor family has been raped and done to death by some merciless rapists! Whoever it may be, needs to be brought to justice and punished. It is better if politicians stay away from this case and allow the investigating agencies to do their part without any pressure!

Jeevan, she was murdered in October 2012 when BJP was ruling Karnataka. why not given to CBI inquiry by BJP govt? even after Mr.Heggade personally communicated with HM R.Ashok. BJP govt is the reason for the present chaos, as it was not done proper work in this regard and just arrested a mentally ill person to close the file.

Dear Abdul Rafiq, Uchila / Dubai. Any cases can not be given to CBI just like that. First police enquiry, then state level COD and if required it can be given to CBI. As this incident happened at the end of BJP government, the progress was only up to COD. Now it is the time to go for CBI, as it is beleived that both police and COD failed in their efforts. Being, in power Congress government has to request center for CBI investigation. Any delay will raise doubts on Congress governments earnestness in doing justice to the soul of Sowjanya.

mentally ill Santhosh was arrested on 11 October 2012, and SP Abhishek Goyal was confirmed Santhosh admitted Sowjanya's rape and murder committed by him. BJP govt was in power till May 2013, in between it never felt that police failed to arrest the real culprit? how come after one year you are saying police failed in their efforts. something funny.

Let there be an impartial enquiry. The people who have any little knowledge about the incident should come forward and be witness. Somewhere it makes one feel that there is some influential people involved and some others trying to protect them. Hope Shree Manjunatheshwara will reveal the truth soon and give Justice to Saujanya.

Mr.Heggade told in press meet, it took several years for Gandhiji to become Mahatma. but Godsey killed him within few seconds.
Dr.Heggade also working hard for religion, education and doing unselfishness social work since last forty years. He built his great personality after so many years of hard work. But Godsey minded people spoiled his name within some hours, is really sad.
