Udupi, Oct 17: One month after the incident wherein a four-year-old nursery student of Madhavakripa School in Manipal was sexually assaulted, the Dalit Sangarsha Samithi (DSS) staged a protest in front of the SP office demanding reopening of the crime file and a sincere investigation on Wednesday October 16.

Jayanth Malpe, DSS, said that the arrest of Shubhakumar (24) and Sudheer (46) was not based on any hard evidence. “The FIR does not say the truth about the incident. It looks like the police is supporting a few big people and politicians and taking action against the Dalit and the poor people blindly,” he said.

He added that after checking each and every aspect of the case, we have forwarded the request for a second investigation. “Earlier, the police, thinking that the assault happened in the auto, questioned driver Narayan. Later, they assumed that the incident happened in the bus but this was not possible as both of them were working when the incident took place,” said Malpe.

He said that the mother of the child should be hospitalized and given treatment. “The parents of other students and school staff have given a good opinion about both the accused during the investigation which the police have ignored. We don’t deny the incident completely but the truth is not as it was projected here. We supported the Manipal incident because that was the truth,” added Malpe.

G Rajashekar said that the Indian Constitution has given an equal opportunity to all to prove their innocence. “Here both the accused are denied this because they are poor,” he added.

He said that Manipal police officials had behaved rudely while questioning some people in the case. “The case is in the court but the charge sheet is yet to be prepared. Hence, a second investigation was demanded before that.”

Dr Boralingaiah M B, SP Udupi, said that the case will be studied once again and whatever the victim says will be final in this case.
