Sonia had tears, put food bill ahead of illness: Rahul

Shahdol (Madhya Pradesh), Oct 17 (IANS): Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said Thursday his mother Sonia Gandhi, despite being ill, was more concerned about passing the "historic" food security bill that ensures subsidised food for the poor and hungry.

Addressing a Congress rally here, about 522 km from state capital Bhopal, Rahul Gandhi said his mother first refused to go to hospital and when she finally agreed she had tears in her eyes.

"I was sitting behind (in the house) and was watching my mother as I knew she was not well. After sometime, I saw her leave with (Kumari) Selja (minister of social justice and empowerment). I got little worried.

"I told her (Sonia) let's go to hospital. But she refused. She said 'I will not leave until the food bill is passed'. She said 'do whatever you want to do, but I will not leave. She said 'she has fought for it for years," a visibly emotional Rahul Gandhi said, launching the election campaign in the state that will go to the polls Nov 25.

He then went on to say that, despite illness, his mother went inside parliament, but came out again after 10 minutes.

"By that time voting had started. This time I was adamant that she has to go to hospital. I dragged her to hospital. But even then she was not ready to go. She was crying. And I asked her and she told me that she wanted to vote (for the bill) but could not."

It is the first time Rahul Gandhi has spoken publicly about his mother and Congress president's sudden illness while the Lok Sabha was debating the food bill Aug 26.

Sonia Gandhi was rushed that day to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi for treatment.

Parliament has since passed the bill which gives right to subsidised grains to two-thirds of India's 1.2 billion population, numbering around 800 million, the largest such scheme anywhere in the world.

"It is a historic bill. After this legislation, no one (in India) will go hungry," Gandhi declared.

The bill is the pet welfare measure of Sonia Gandhi and was a part of the Congress election manifesto of 2009.

Respect more important than development: Rahul Gandhi

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, speaking Thursday at a rally in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior city, said respecting people is more important than development.

"Respect is more important than development because you will not get development unless you get respect. The Madhya Pradesh government does not respect the people," he said.

Gandhi said the Oct 13 stampede in the state's Datia district took place because the government did not respect the people.

"I was told a similar incident occurred earlier at the same place. It means the government did not respect the people who died in 2006, and they do not respect the people who died here Sunday," he said.

He also said more youth should join politics.

"Development will come when you will reach assembly and the Lok Sabha," he said.

Rahul Gandhi speech is like one among us without the expression of super human being or any sarcastic remarks on opponents. Most of the Sangh supporters do not like such speeches as they are used to hear hollow speeches of their leader with tall claims (with full of lies) and fun on opponents.

Sangh supporters consider the country can be run on such speeches and development can be on the basis of marketing techniques the prime minister nominee has been doing. They think that people can be fooled by whisper campaign/marketing with fake tall figures. Slowly the development story of Gujarat is unfolding and now it is standing along with least developed states.

Somebody questioned why there are followers for Nehru Gandhi family. But can they answer why should we follow a leader who only makes tall claims which is full of lies and whose culture is to demean the opponents by making fun about them.

He makes fun of our Prime minister whose contribution to the country is enormous and because of him today we stand fourth in the world. What is the contribution of the fake leader to the country except spreading hatred based on religion?

Kundarji the people of gujarat are very happy with Modiji rule. The fact is that the people like you cannot digest the Modiji's popularity. You people think India is reserved only for Gandhi family. When it comes to sangh parivars please dont comment on them with half knowledge. When there is need they are the one who approach first to help the victims especially during the time of natural calamities, but your paid medias will not show their good work because they want to make the congi supporters like you very happy. So would like to inform you that dont comment on any such organization with half knowledge.

In India Gujarat is 12th state in developments.

The State's chief Minister's can monitor developments.

But the Central Government only can write letters and allocate money to states for developments.

Central has less role where as the states can play bigger roles

I really wonder Soniaji was in tears for our defficiencies in providing faciliies at times of emergency situation or food bill?

The middleclass taxpayers are the ones who should have tears in their eyes since we are the ones who are paying for all these entitlement schemes. Even those who do not pay direct income tax, will pay higher price for all goods and services as deficits continue to widen, and inflation continues to increase. At this rate of vote bank schemes, soon 99% of the country will need "food security" since the majority of our population wont be able to afford 3 square meals a day.

what is this politics out of sickness! Soldiers are given life for our country and you cannot explain the freedom stragglers sacrifice. This shows first family of India how much they can do for India, small health issue they call as sacrifice that show how much they can do for our country ! when you enjoyed so much wealth of the country for your enjoyment then please don't mention small sacrifice or pain.

Rahul you have said more youths should join Politics. This is Ok.
But there is no place for Honest youths at all in Indian Politics. What remedy you have for this ?
Just see after Lalu yadav went to Jail few days back his vote share has gone up by 2% in yesterday's C-Voter's survey due to sympathy factor. This shows even Indian people do not want Honest people to rule them. God save this Country where voters themselves want utterly dishonest people to rule them.

It's the "Open Truth" whatever she did for the "Poor and Downtrodden and for the Backward class".

Now "Implementation" of the scheme is more "Important" from the "Trader Sharks!!!(Trader Mafia)".

Transportation and Procurement of food grain for the "Public Distribution System" is a "Great Challenge!!! in "SOME" of our States till date!!!.

Be it "Any Political Party" ...rules that State "Regional OR National" "All Are Having The Same Distinction"!!! when it comes to "ACCOUNTABILITY"!!!

Simple calculation!!! If a rupee spent by the government ONLY "Nineteen Paisa" reaches to the end point.

This is our Robust... Progressive... India!!!
