CBI, ED, SIT to probe illegal mining scam: State govt

Bangalore, Oct 17 (PTI): Congress government in Karnataka today decided to hand over probe into the mega mining scam in the state to a special investigation team, CBI and Enforcement Directorate and also establish a special court to try such cases.

The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, gave the green signal for investigation by CBI into illegal export of iron ore from seven ports in Karnataka and neighbouring states.

Noting that the reports on illegal mining by the then Lokayukta Justice (Retd) N Santosh Hegde had raised many issues pertaining to the scam, Law Minister T B Jayachandra said in a media briefing that an SIT would be constituted.

The issues to be probed include evasion of royalty to the Government and forest development tax.

To investigate cases relating to investment made from the wealth of illegal mining, he said the Cabinet decided to hand over such cases to the ED and facilitation of invoking of the stringent Prevention of Money Laundering Act, a central legislation.

Jayachandra also said a special court would be established to try cases on illegal mining.

Hegde's final report submitted in July 2011 estimated the loss of revenue to the State exchequer due to illegal mining in the State between 2006 and 2010 at more than Rs 16,000 crore. The report had also named 797 officials.

Following his indictment in the report, the then Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had to quit complying with the direction of the BJP's central leadership.

The Congress had launched a vigorous campaign against illegal mining when it was in opposition during the previous BJP rule, and promised to crack down on the lobby and recovering the lost money.

"It's the bold decision of the Government.... (Cabinet decision on the probe)", Jayachandra said.

Excellent decision. Hope our daring CM will succeed in giving justice – I must say not to anyone but – to our beloved state whose earth these thieves have sold and are enjoying life. All Talwars, all sacks full of cash (without any holes in them), all gold ornaments must be returned. Remember, the gold ornaments worn by those ladies somewhere in the north India smells of Karnataka soil. So please return.

Ganesh, by the way I know of many uncles including saffron ones. But who is this Blue uncle ? Did he come from the blue sky or blue sea ? I am quite puzzled.

wow, I think Karnataka is going to be rich soon...

Catch them, fleece them, denude them of all that is fleeced from the state and plus interest\fine and finally jail them till we do not see them no more.

This applies to all these robbers of state wealth and treasury.
None of them should be given bail, in jail they should be like a criminal not as VIP and this should be monitored specially.

One of the best decisions taken by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

this is necessary because mining case one of big case need more time and more officer to investigate and without any political pressure.
Corrupt politician and corrupt officer should be treated as “ India Gang Rape”

I would like to request CM to drag Blue uncle case also.

If those three agencies are probing illegal mines POST MORTEM I think most of the ex BJP ministers including REDDY/BSY plus conduit officials will permanently stay in the jail.

APART FROM THAT THOSE WHO RECEIVED GOLDEN TALWARS(X-BJP PRESIDENT)SUSHMA SWARAJ (I think LKA also received Golden TALWAR)!!!KARNATAKA MINES LOOTING BY GOVT PEOPLE WERE IN FACT,WORLD RECORD AND UNPRECEDENTED.

THIS COURAGEOUS/UNPRECEDENTED MOVE OF THE STATE GOVT WILL CERTAINLY DAMAGE BJP PARTY AS BJP PARTY IN KARNATAKA IS THE MAIN BENEFICIARY OF THIS SCANDAL APART FROM INDIVIDUAL POLITICAL LEADERS.
