I am very happy with Govt decision on mining probe: Hegde

Bangalore, Oct 19 (PTI) : Former Karnataka Lokayukta Justice (Retd) N Santosh Hegde today expressed delight over the Congress government's decision ordering high-level enquiries into the mega mining scam which he had unearthed, and expressed hope over the probe reaching "logical conclusion".

"I am very happy", the former Supreme Court judge told PTI on the Cabinet's decision yesterday on handing over probe into the scam to a Special Investigation Team (SIT), CBI and Enforcement Directorate and also establish a special court to try such cases.

"I think it's the first step that the Government is taking and I find it's a major step", Hegde said.

Hegde's final report submitted in July 2011 estimated the loss of revenue to the state exchequer due to illegal mining in the State between 2006 and 2010 at more than Rs 16,000 crore. The report had also named 797 officials.

Following his indictment in the report, the then Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had to quit complying with the direction of the BJP's central leadership.

"I hope it (the probe) will be taken to its logical conclusion", Hegde said.
The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, gave the green signal for investigation by CBI into illegal export of iron ore from seven ports in Karnataka and neighbouring States.

The government also said an SIT would be constituted. The issues to be probed include evasion of royalty to the Government and forest development tax. It also announced that a special court would be established to try cases of illegal mining.

To investigate cases relating to investment made from the wealth of illegal mining, the Cabinet decided to hand over such cases to the ED and facilitation of invoking of the stringent Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Obviously referring to the previous BJP government, Hegde said nothing had been done to act on his reports in the last two years and there was a lot of "dilly-dallying" and "excuses".

I fully agree with both Simple, Bangalore as well as jr.

It is very difficult as within the Congress itself there are so many corrupt people who will make sure this investigation will not succeed. They will somehow try to remove Siddu. It is indeed the duty of all Karnataka people to see this does not happen.

Also what jr said could be right that this is just an election stunt. I simply hope it is not.

Yes, I guess in Karnataka there was only one honest officer that is Mr. Santosh Hegde. I have not found anyone else even coming closer to his integrity and the daring he showed at a time when yeddy was reigning supreme. We wish him long life full of health.

Using all TV channels & Newspapers, Congres propagated as if BSY has swindled some 1000 crores plus & all gullible public accepted it. All case papers about BSY is with CBI since last 2 years. When everyone was thinking BSY would be convicted, CBI just used BSY to make KJP & split BJP votes. CBI only helped Congress for it's political purposes & not serious to get BSY convicted. It is already 100 days & more of Congres in power in Karnataka & in Center. Nothing happened to BSY. BSY just spoke one or 2 sentences in favour of Sonia-ji & now he is very well safe. Once you are in umbrella of Congress high command, no action would be taken.

Some correction to my earlier comments: Once the SIT submits its investigation report to the government charge sheets should be filed in a special court against those looters of our wealth and punished, irrespective of their positions or party affiliation. All looted wealth should be recovered from these crooks and guilty should be punished with exemplary punishment. Thanks and congratulations to justice Santosh Hegde.

My hearty congratulations to all the residents of Karnataka for electing this government, and Siddu as its Chief Minister, who has shown his guts to deal with corrupt. Normally these politicians blame each other only to get political mileage and quietly join hands behind our back. In this case, his action indicates that Siddu will not tolerate corruption in his own government if he does the opposition will attack him with sharper weapons.

That is why Siddu will be in danger.
His own Ministers\MLA etc may bring him down due to his non-corrupt ways, besides opposition efforts.
Sidduji should not bow down to any pressure and continue his non-corrupt ways that will bring to justice all those who have transgressed.
People should support Sidduji even if Congress themselves think of changing him as CM.
We need a CM like him in Karnataka to put matters in place, administration to run smoothly, development to take place as they should be and his concern (it is everybody's concern too) for the betterment of poor in Karnataka.

Sidduji will make Karnataka to progress with the above and other developments. He is a God given Chief Minister for us. We should not lose him at any cost.

I wish Siduuji good health and long reign in Karnataka as CM.

Hegdeji, if Karnataka CID/CCB is given this case for investigation then here also CID/CCB will bend the case to favour the Culprits just like they did in Belikeri Case. Karnataka CID/CCB is nothing better than Civil Police.
Even that former Port & Fisheries Minister who tried to hush up the Belikeri Case and offended Justice Hegde, should also be brought into the ambit of investigation by CBT / SIT.

Justice Hegde's ""HAPPINESS" over the cabinet decision regarding illegal mining in Karnataka would be UNHAPPINESS" of BJP Party as a whole.

This landmark decision of Cabinet made possible because of Siddu otherwise any other politician in the helm of Karnataka affairs could help political fraternity by not asking to probe by these powerful agencies....

Justice's Hegde's report on illegal mining in fact, instrumental in defeating BJP govt very badly..

Congrats Hegde,You were ridiculed & verbally attacked by many in then BJP Government. But you proved your integrity in upholding Justice.
Yeddy claimed he was the first CM to Ban Mining legally, but he got kickbacks through illegal mining & transportation through Reddys.
Now BJP wants him back, again proving a Party of Indifferences.
