Mangalore, Oct 19: “Following the increase in atrocities on women, the ABVP will launch a nationwide awareness campaign titled, ‘Students’ Walk for Women Protection’. This campaign will begin in Karnataka on Wednesday October 23,” said Ramesh K, state secretary, ABVP, addressing the press meet at the Press Club.

“From the past two years, atrocities on women and students have been rising at an alarming rate in our country. The public has been feeling insecure and angry about these incidents. ABVP has been continuously carrying out protests and awareness programmes with relation to these incidents, for some time. As the law enforcement is not that strict where incidents like teasing, ragging, female foeticide, rape, and murder are concerned, these have been increasing day by day. The death sentence given to the four culprits in the Delhi gang rape case is a welcome one,” he added.

Ramesh added, “With a view to avoiding such incidents in future and to create awareness, the ABVP has been holding this campaign in every branch, nationwide. With this programme, the association will submit a memorandum with nearly 25 demands listed in it.”

He further demanded that the government hand over the Soujanya case to the CBI and the police has to be strict in the investigation regarding Akshatha’s death.

Chethan Padil, Anushka, and Yathish Kumar were present.

The term ‘atrocities on women’ has a deep meaning and very sensitive issue. The colleges forcing a Muslim girl or Christian Nun to remove the head scarf is also a crime and atrocity on women. Do you ABVP members think seriously or you are working for name sake and want to show your presence now and then?

I strongly welcome ABVP initiative but they should not take any undue advantage of any situation into their favour. If ABVP is really care for women's protection then they must prove their prowess to bring in CBI to probe Sowjanya's rape and murder case and punish the criminals at earliest. Ramesh K. great job keep it up. JAI HO ABVP & GOD BLESS YOUR NOBLE CAUSE. JAI KANNADIGAS - JAI HIND.

Excellent one ABVP, I agree with you but our police dept should act and take the law-and-order in its own hand. But, does that happen always? They are some times the official hooligans and uniformed gundas. Hardly have they acted on public apathy. If you look at the system very closely, then some time you will wonder how come the elected govt does not react to such kind of vandalisms. Not that they do not want to act, but want act!they ignore the incident,it is because of division in the vote bank of the parties, which is a positive sign for their party.Long story short we Indians are merely mute spectators to moral policing.
