Udupi, Oct 20:
Sri Vishweshatirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math on Saturday October 19 came out in strong support of Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade in the wake of allegations against his family pertaining to Sowjanya rape and murder case.

Speaking at a public meeting organised by various parties and heads of Pejawar and Puthige Maths, Sri Vishweshatirtha Swamiji said that the allegations against Dr Heggade who has been engaging in valuable social service was uncalled for.

“Sowjanya case should be thoroughly investigated. At the same time, pointing fingers at anybody without proper evidence is not fair,” he said.

“The heads of Maths of Karnataka are united against injustice and are in support of Dr Heggade. The insult meted out to him is an insult to the people in the coastal region. The entire population is hurt by the allegations,” he said.

Sri Sugunendratirtha Swamiji of Puthige Math said, “As allegations against an innocent person increases, he becomes stronger in his resolve.  The incident has encouraged Dr Heggade to increasingly engage in social work,” he said.

All the speakers at the meet had the same demands - that the case should be handed over to the CBI and unbiased investigation should be done, and that the culprits should be given stringent punishment.

MLA Pramod Madhwaraj said that both the state and central governments are with Dr Heggade and that mere allegations without evidence would not be entertained.

Jamia Masjid president Budan Basha praised Dr Heggade and said that the coastal region has earned name and respect because of Dharmasthala. "Everyone believes in the power of god," he added.

MLC member Kota Srinivas Poojary warned that a massive protest would be held if such allegations continue to be levelled against Dr Heggade's family.

Dr Neri Cornelio, principal of Milagres College, Kallianpur assured support to Dr Heggade from the Christian community.

K M Udupa, Devi Prasad Shetty and others were present.

A protest march was also held from Udupi Jodukatte to Ammanni Ramanna Shetty hall where the public meeting took place.

Visit to Sowjanya's house

Pejawar Swamiji also visited the parents of Sowjanya, a student of SDM College, Ujire who was raped and murdered near Dharmasthala a year ago.

Sowjanya's father Chandappa urged the Swamiji to support him in his struggle for justice.

In response, the Swamiji said that he will fully support his demand for an unbiased CBI probe. "However, till the truth is out, you should refrain from hurling allegations against Dharmasthala or Dr Veerendra Heggade," he told Sowjanya's father.

This case is equally bad as Delhi gang rape or Manipal case. However, the only difference is that in Delhi and Manipal case, the victim's parents will easily get justice by punishing the culprits, but in Sowjanya's case I doubt that. Not that our law is good, but in Delhi case culprits were punished only because they were bus drivers/ cleaners. If this is done by some influential people, there is no question of justice. Why should everyone back someone and hold rallies supporting him. This will only block true and fair investigation. In US, even a maid can fight a rape case against a president or IMF chief. Is it possible in India?

Now who is pressurising whom? for what? If so many people support and believe Shree Heggade, then where is the fear of tarnishing his image? But getting justice to Saujanya and family is the most important thing.

While justice must be done swiftly, accusing religious heads to expedite inquiries must stop. This is character assassination. The accused goes through the immense hassle till proven innocent. If a person is accused and later acquitted, the accuser must be penalized with a harsh punishment to ensure future investigations are honest & efficient, and therefore victims of rape are taken with the seriousness they deserve

Let the supporters of Saujanya's parents call Yusufzayi Malala of Pakistan to Belthangady, so that the attention of whole world will be drawn towards Belthangady and people will know that in India also we have Talibanis.

If Political, religious or people with authority do not work for justice to the weak and deprived sections of the society, they will loose the faith of people!

    Allegations against anybody, big
    or small is absolutely wrong!
    It is character assassination!

But investigations into Saujanya's rape and murder is totally different matter!
General public do not ask for somebody to be falsely framed! People ask for Saujanya's Rapist and murderer is booked and punished!
Politicians and Religious should ensure impartial investigations
    in the crime.
Other wise God wrath will surely come on collaborators of crime
    along with criminals equally!

People, please be prepared for a natural disaster around us very soon. God is not blind. He is more closer to the weak and down trodden whose soul cries helplessly to Him for justice.

Poor peoples voice is suppressed and curtailed. Money and Power has won against truth and justice. In India religion is above justice and truth. There is very remote possibility of going the case to CBI and even it is given to CBI, justice will be bleak. Sorry our dear child Sowjanya, we are helpless. Only God can give you justice. We can only pray for you and your helpless family. "Asathya Mewa Jayathe" ?

By seeing news paper report, the Belthangady taluk become heaven of rape and murder. I do not think in the present situation the Soujanya's case will not be solved. Even if solved there is every possibility wrong person will be framed. This the grievous hurt to womanhood.
